That D_E2M8 version and timing in the wad is very awesome. The tone of this one is like DoomGuy realizes at that point he has a serious issue and its too far gone to get better, when he "skips" into the next level and doesn't remember any of it. And of course all of those edits are amazing, especially the D_E1M9 one

Yeah, it's like if Suspense were a Quake track instead of a Doom track. Twisting & warping instruments into the components for an ambient (yet vaguely threatening) piece was a common element of that game's soundtrack, as was having some sneaky little rhythmic element that kinda ties things together in a very invisible manner.

I know it was probably just used as the means to get the "blankness" feeling right for the moment, but the fact that D_E2M9 is used at 7:47 kind of puts one to think that for some reason at that point in E1M2, Doomguy's demented brain tries to go all the way forward to E2M9's music, however, considering the fact our protagonist dies before E1M8, it's likely a foreshadowing of the fact that there's nothing that goes that far, it's all gone.
@FightingForceSoulless Жыл бұрын
Instantly noticed that E1M1 is faster and E1M2 is slower. E1M2 is more noticable, but even E1M1, if you know your Doom, you instantly hear it.

Right? It feels like how the track would sound if it were made for Quake instead of Doom. Its ambient yet imposing nature, and the way the instruments are distorted & repurposed to allow for it, is a very Reznor move. The same can be said for the addition of the very subtle rhythmic... something, stealthily keeping time without making itself noticed.

@@Mordecai02E1M5 and E1M6 start really hitting hard and brutally emphasize on the “insanity” part of things, it’s like yanking a carpet out from some unsuspecting person’s feet and they didn’t even realize they were standing on it at all.
@Mordecai0211 ай бұрын
@@kilotron702 No kidding. By the way, speaking of E1M5, I figured out what its deal is. If you reverse it, it reveals its true nature as a vaporwave remix of On the Hunt. As interesting as that is, though, I'm not really sure how the track as heard in the mod is supposed to play into its respective stage of mental degradation. Maybe it represents suddenly finding yourself someplace _(like how the song starts off with the final note played forward),_ trying to retrace your steps _(the song immediately reverses itself and plays itself backward)_ but can only place isolated events that are unhelpful by themselves _(the song briefly playing forward again during the drum fills and then resuming its journey backwards)_ and end up confusing yourself even more _(ends with every individual timpani note in the intro being mirrored, and the glockenspiel suddenly turning into some weird modulated synth instrument)_ than when you started _(the last note is a random note from the middle of the song played forward)_ ?

Right? I love the dubby effects that get mixed in as it progresses, as though it was being spun by a DJ who decided to do some freestyling. On a sidenote, I particularly love the echo on the drums. It fits right in with Dark Halls' mood and makes for a very constructive addition to it. I'm not gonna lie, I kinda wish it was in the original piece.
@themartonjanos6194 Жыл бұрын
Dark Halls progressively fuzzing out and getting reverbed is one really insane thing to listen to. Also, was the E1M6 (E1M5) track supposed to get reversed or was it just an accident?
