Hello Cody, Thank you for the videos and explanations. I really like the way you approach this subject. I was wondering if you can explain or reveal about how stuff works after the first contact is ended. What I mean is, the videos you made on salaries in some big companies are for new comers, people who did not work before for that particular company, for example Facebook. What I am interested to know, what happens after the 4 year plan? Let's say that I started working for one of these companies and my initial contract is for 4 years and the compensation in total is X, is there a raise in compensation or is there a new contract ? What happens on the 4th year and one day mark ? Any thing you can say may help me and others of course. Thanks ahead.
@CodyEngelCodes3 жыл бұрын
Good question and it's something I should cover in future videos in this series. Every company that offers equity will have what are called refreshers. These will usually happen once a year. So let's say your initial Facebook grant was $100,000 a normal refresher might be something like $35,000 with the same vesting. While the grant itself is lower in the refresher, these will also stack on top of one another. So after your first year you'd only have equity from one grant vesting, but at the end of your second year you'd have equity from your first and second grant vesting and stacking on top of one another. So you don't have to worry about this, you'll never not have future equity that is vesting with a company, they will keep giving it to you. It's more likely that you will walk away from equity when another company offers you more money to go work for them.
@alxizr3 жыл бұрын
@@CodyEngelCodes thank you very much for the explanation. I really appreciate it. @@puddleglum5610 That's true. FaceBook has affected a lot of lives negatively, to the point of death. I can't condone that. But evil is evil, you don't decide what's less than the other. Everyone still gets the latest IPhone. The US still allows people to own guns, even if we are losing thousands of people a year to gun violence. You pick your poison, because you need to feed your family & everything else.
@puddleglum56103 жыл бұрын
@@Jambajakumba I disagree. I think there are different degrees of evil, and Facebook is at a higher degree of evil than most (if not all) tech companies. @CodyEngelCodes3 жыл бұрын
Basic economics, supply and demand. There aren’t enough software engineers to meet demand. Companies that have little overhead but are crazy profitable can then pay more to attract the talent so that they can become more profitable. Also a CS degree is difficult, it requires a ton of work.

@@CodyEngelCodes compare to other engineers( at least the core ones) CS us walk in the park. What makes CS difficult is it's math and physics. Other engineering has more of it.
