"Hippies & Cowboys" written by :
Cody Jinks (BMI, Late August Publishing)
LYRICS
Well, I started on the whiskey pretty early this morning
That's alright, I was up all night
But I passed out before the sun came up
I really wanted to see one of those
I know that's no way for a man to behave
With a mortgage due, and a baby on the way
But somehow I made it to where I'm at
It's been a living as a matter of fact
I get a bad attitude from being tired and running 'round
I never ask for anyone to say they like my sound
I've never been a part of any musical scene
I ain't just talking Nashville, if you know what I mean
They don't write about me in their magazines
And I don't ask for no reviews on the songs that I sing
I never had a lot of friends and I'm alright by that
But people keep on coming back
Raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys
They don't care about no trends
They don't care about songs that sell
Yeah, tomorrow I'll be gone
So tonight everybody just sing along
Raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys
I've been standing on the outside for all of my life
But I like the view, I'm not gonna lie
Yeah, the yuppies and the hipsters and the wannabe scenes
That ain't down-home to me
I like two dollar beers, I like three dollar wells
At some old honkytonk bar that I know by the smell
Some old drunk on a barstool on a Merle Haggard tune
That's my kind of room
Raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys
They don't care about no trends
They don't care about songs that sell
Yeah, tomorrow I'll be gone
So tonight everybody just sing along
Raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys
Raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys
They don't care about no trends
They don't care about songs that sell
Yeah, tomorrow I'll be gone
So tonight, everybody just sing along
Raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys
And I'll be raising hell with the hippies and the cowboys

Hell yeah. In so many genres we are living through a period that will be remembered. I feel likes it’s part of this “new” tech age finally coming fruition with folks my age and younger (30-40) and the last couple decades of musics between good music. Not to stay here hasn’t been good music between 1990 and 2020, but it’s pretty hit and miss. Plus’s, all this artist now CAN get their music out easier. Can’t wait to listen back on the likes of like Cody Jinks, Chris Stapleton, etc etc and see if I still thinking them like the greats I think of like Waylon, Pride, Prine, Coe, Travis, etc etc.

6:23 That must be a hell of a feeling for him. He's put in years of hard work playing all kinds of venues. And here he is, playing at one of the most famous venues in there is with his fans all singing along to his music. He must have felt so many emotions.

I’ve met him in person. He is amazing. Like truly amazing. Sat outside his tourbus bullshitting for like 30 minutes. I happened to be walking to my car and he was just chillin, bullshitting with fans. Even got his signature tattooed on my arm. That actually helped me get my first successful relationship and my fiancé. She thought the story of me meeting him and the tattoo was so interesting she gave me a shot. So thank you Cody! If you see this you’re invited to my wedding!

Cody. Wes here. I'm a metal boy that found you from luck. I don't listen to much but your syncopation and lyrical delivery from "Must Be the Whiskey" got me. I dug deeper. I thought it was just the Whiskey (vodka in my case) but damned if you didnt write the best vocal line. I just want you to know that all of us metal guys listen to country. Hell. I sing along. Thank you so much your good sir. We love you

This is the first KJ song I heard. On a little independent radio station in Erie, Illinois 107.7 WQUD Vintage Radio. They play classic rock, vintage country, rhythm and blues, hair bands, even local artists and bands, with a small studio for live performances during the show! Cody, if you ever make it up the Mississippi River to the Quad Cities, I heartily suggest you get in contact with them. I would love to see a concert of yours in the area. Each DJ has their own show and most say msg are requests
