Bit more of a back story of my old MK1 - 2003 was when it was laid up in Craig's garage. He bought it in 1996 from an auction after it came off Northstar Energy fleet. I think it was on 89,000 miles already by then, though he had to put a new engine in around 2000, used to take it over with him to Germany, engine went pop after a blast on the Autobahn. Think he said he'd got 130 out of it - no wonder it went bang! Front discs on it had a really weird flat spot on it, almost as if it was sat on the ground on it's brake disc. (The plates aren't original, but we'll not say much about that - I had them reproduced... neither is the dealer sticker!) The MK1s original exhaust had two silencers - one was mounted on the left, then it went over almost at 90° and went through another silencer, and the tailpipe on the right. It was rotting out when I sold it, I think it was replaced.

By the nature of my filming style I simply don't get around every car and with this event being so dread out I sadly missed out some great cars, like those two Mercedes you were looking at. The C6 is a you say timeless, a stunning piece of design. Didn't get chance to speak with Chris but I did see Joseph taking his Mondeo out. I always liked the styling if the MK1 Mondeo which looked so fresh as the time both inside and out. Never knew about the fan speed setting not having an off position. The facelift cars I didn't take to the styling as readily. Nice to see a Ghia X though and knowing what Chris's cars are like it will no doubt be am.exveptiinal example of an Unexceptional car. As it happens I took Joseph's Rover 45 V6 out for review last night so that will be coming to my channel soon.

Yeah it was very difficult for filming hence I kind of gave up. These C6 are just so unique would love to own one. Yes I think Joseph just put the video out today for the mondeo, I have a look around the 45 V6 rare cars used to regularly work on one years ago. Wish have a watch of your review 👍🏼 Thanks for watching mate 👍🏼

Great video. It's quite a coincidence because I've owned both identical models of each of these Mondeo's. My GLX hatchback had the same wheel covers and was a 'K' reg 2.0 litre. I loved the velour seats which were so comfortable. I also had the Mk2 GhiaX 2.0litre automatic 4dr saloon which looked very stylish with those big rear lights and leather interior. I must say I still miss them. The Mk1 was my personal favourite even though it was a little more basic. Thank you for uploading this enjoyable video.

Yeah got some videos ready for work on the XC90, nothing wrong with these gearboxes if you regularly change the oil, this has already had a strip down so should be good for many years, plus I have also re changed the fluid…. But it’s the newer ones you worry about with the dry clutch system, these are an old school auto. Thanks for watching/ commenting as always mate 👍🏼

There are also differences between the early MK2s and later MK2s. The obvious one is the Zetec blacktop from 98. Another example is the rear door name plate which was changed from plastic to glass in 98 I believe, something I noticed when replacing a broken glass one with a plastic one I found.
@CarAddictGarageNE

Yeah I think the plastic cam covers was part of the “eco” range all manufacturers were starting around the 00s Can imagine there was a number of changes, there always is when a platform has been running that long

@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE Жыл бұрын
Usually the reason the MK1 and tbh the Mk2 was the same for tyre wear, because the bolts where in the wrong way around so a lot of people left the arms until the bushes were hanging out….. plus back then there was so many very poor quality aftermarket wishbone arms available they caused the same issues Thanks for watching 👍🏼

Used to be safety feature to have exhaust & fuel fill on opposite sides incase of fuel overflowing on to hot exhaust a fire risk,

The mk1 2.0 was undergeared. It had an activated carbon pollen filter, it needed the fan running to pull air through it. That autobox is absolute junk.
@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE Жыл бұрын
I service hundreds of cars a week, and most have Activated Carbon filters and they don’t have the fan running continuously. I drove that 2.0 MK1 a fair bit and i definitely wouldn’t say it was under geared? As for automatic cant comment, tend to find most automatics of that era ain’t particularly reliable
@user-sf7kl9uh7k
@user-sf7kl9uh7k Жыл бұрын
@@CarAddictGarageNE I'm afraid that particular gearbox is usually done after 60,000 miles, even with a fluid change halfway. Of course, but very little air will find it's way past a good cabin filter without being pulled through by a fan. I'd described 3500 rpm at 70 mph under geared for a what was usually a reps motorway/family car.
@CarAddictGarageNE
@CarAddictGarageNE Жыл бұрын
Like said all the cars I work on, and own with carbon filters can manage to pass air though the vents easily at speed….. without the fan needing to be continuously running, I actually can’t think of many / if any other cars like this, problem been if you put the air direction knob to 0 it stops the fan…. But then it’s shuts off all the vents allowing zero air flow, stupid idea tbh. These MTX-75 ain’t that bad, i class my little ZX 1.4 petrol as under geared as that it’s at 3800rpm at 70…. I’m almost positive the Mondeo wasn’t that bad? I could be wrong.
@user-sf7kl9uh7k
@user-sf7kl9uh7k 9 ай бұрын
@@CarAddictGarageNEThe MTX75 is a good box, the E4 wasn't. They're not the same engine, the silver top of the mk1 has hydraulic tappets, the black top is shimmed. The black tops a better engine TBH. The mk1 only got standard ABS on the Ghia, Si and V6, in 95 the GLX also got it as standard. All Mk1's were drummed, apart from the V6 and the Si, Ghia/X when adaptive damping was specified. The drums were abs compatible.
