Good job making the shade work on the lantern. And that stove is pretty awesome, too. Didn't know they had a version like that.

Oh, man. I have to get you a couple in the mail. I have been working so much overtime and extra nights a week and have been totally exhausted. I totally forgot about it. I actually got off work early the other morning and fell asleep on the recliner as soon as I sat down. I didn't wake up until past my normal bedtime 😴 I had a vise I was supposed to get in the mail and forgot it too. 😂 😂 😂 I got it out this morning. I will try to get yours packaged up tonight. Hope all is well. God bless.

Robert, these are GREAT stoves! The low profile makes much more steady and the adustable foot REALLY WORKS on unlevel surfaces. They are right there at the top of my all time favorite stoves list. Others can correct me, but if I recall, there is really no difference between this and the Apex, other than the Apex II was, like the 550B, packaged with an extra kerosene generator to make it a multi-fuel stove. Maybe a little fiberglass or mineral wool pad between the burner and heat shield, but that's about it. Some didn't come with the feet, you may notice there are rubber feet on the base too. The legs DO add some bulk when packing, but not too bad. For those afraid of white gas they made a propane version too. I think it's a 5450. Like these, the hose is WAY heavier and stiffer than it needs to be IMO, but ..... lawyers, I guess. IMO, the only design flaw is the fuel hose taking that hard 90deg turn at the pump. And it's too short for my liking. Tha 90deg bend is a common failure point. This one looks a little floppy there. Keep an eye on that. I've had to replace a couple on Ebay buys. I cut the brass ferrules off and used plain black fuel hose and did the field expedient hose clamp from SS lacing/mechanics wire. The one I kept has been going strong for about 20 years. Admittedly with light use, but I made the hose about 14 in long. It's much more user friendly with the longer, more pliable hose. If I ever DO have a hose issue, I have plenty to cut off and can reuse the lacing wire clamp. It's way more field repairable this way. As long as you can shield it from the heat, little zip ties work great as small temporary hose clamps too. I always pack a few. they don't take up any space and are handy as heck. I have a strip of HD alum foil I wrap around the hose as a heat shield and it works great. The hose has never been hot to the touch this way. It WILL get hot without it when using a big pot. The black plastic cap on the fuel connection is also the in-use storage location for the aluminum stove plug. I got in the habit of automatically removing the black cap an inserting the plug immediately. Never lost one. These love pressure and tend to chug a bit but if you listen closely to the bottle when it's running you can hear it tick in unison with the chugging. That's the check valve passing liquid fuel, it vaporizes and slams the check valve to it's seated position from the back pressure. The burner, as you can see, it's essentially the same burner as a 550B. The generator is NOT the same, but close. I have a few spares for both and never had to "convert" one to the other. Flame control is as good as it gets with these. These love pressure and will rock and roll on high. The wind screen ring that works with the Feather 400 type burners also works with these as well as the 550B. They're bulky, but if you have the room, they work very well. You can still find these on Ebay, usually included with another stove or a Coleman Peak 1 cook set. I like my folding wind screens too. Can't have too many options, though. Some folks bash the fuel connection on these, but it's really genius and dead simple. It was designed to be used with gloves or mittens in the cold. It fits the bill perfectly. Not so goofy after all, huh? haha! The o-rings are easily replaced. They'll last a LONG time if you keep the probe lubed. Lube the spindle o-rings occasionally too. I do this as part of after use maintenance. It's probably overkill, but never having had one fail in the field, I'm not changing my routine. Sorry for the usual long winded comment. I'm a bit OCD...... Hope someone finds this useful.

I really appreciate all the great information. This is my first stove of this type, and your information is really useful. I agree on the hose. I thought it could probably be a concern in the future. I picked up one of the windscreens off eBay and made a video trying it on different stoves right after making this video, but I'm working overtime and haven't had the time to edit and upload it yet. It was a perfect fit for this stove. Thanks again for the great information. God bless.
