I'm trans, and I totally agree with you. Children should be out playing, not having gender thrown at them, let them live their lives. They give them hormone blockers so they don't go through puberty, I was 18 when I went to my gp and told him. I had years of therapy, before hormones. I'm happy being me now, I wasn't happy before. But spot on, gender is not a topic for the schools, and especially young children.

Hi Rosebud, I knew when I was around 14. I didn't feel right in my body, something was missing. It took me a long time to know what it was, and I went into the library to find information about transgender. I found a book by Caroline Cossey, and the piece of the puzzle fit in with what I felt. This was in 1988, so information was scarce. Not like now, where everything is readily available. When I looked in the mirror, my body repulsed me. And I felt different from everyone else, when I finally came out as trans, I was disowned by my parents, and other family members.

My youngest daughter, she is 43. She is a doctor. She found out her daughter, age 7, was having 45 minute morning "discussions" in school about all the different "kinds" of gender there were and the political "term" to use. My daughter had a fit and wrote a letter to the school telling them it was not appropriate curriculum. And to spend the time teaching reading, writing , and arithmetic. And use the 45 minutes to let them run and play outside...... it is sooo discusting all this gender changing stuff.

Any teacher or parent who encourages their child to go through a horrific operation to change their body needs to not be a parent or teacher. My youngest daughterwas suicidal at 14 years old. Of course we took her to the hospital, she was admitted to a psychiatric facility for 8 days. On day 4 we had a family counseling session. We visited every day. At this meeting,her counselor looks at my husband and I and said,"Alex is transgender" my daughters name is Catey. I asked wth is Alex?" Well the counselor says that was her new name and we should talk about gender reassignment, horm9ne therapy,etc. I replied" Catherine you are not transgender,you my dear are gay. You are attracted to females,that doesn't mean you need to change your gender" I've suspected you were gay for quite some time,and it's ok. Adding a penis,chopping off breasts,taking male hormones will not change your gender. You are made with 2 X chromosomes, one hundred years from now some archeological dig may happen and they dig up your body,they will test your DNA, they will say,you're female. We will get you counseling at a pediatric psychology program, you need to work on your self esteem,and talk out your feelings. We love you no matter your sexual preferences. You don't need to change who you are." My husband told the counselor to" wait an effing minute and we weren't going to allow any gender reassignment bullshit until she completed one year of counseling. " We had suspected this was what was causing her depression and had discussed how we felt and where we stood,before that meeting.Catey was very angry at us and I said "it's fine be angry,but I suspect that someday you'll thank your father and I for not giving into this bullshit" 2 years later she wanted to stop counseling, it was her decision, so we were fine with it. Her self esteem improved alot,she changed alot and said she loved being a girl,she's a lesbian,and thanked us from the bottom of her heart for not giving into her. She's 20 now,doing well,going to college, working, and she still goes to counseling with an adult counselor, of course. She's gay,and we're proud of her. And love her unconditionally.

In every generation, there was always something to rebel against. Nowadays, with everything being done already, the only thing people have to rebel against, is themselves. I think there are a certain amount of people who DO feel they have been born into the wrong body, but mostly I just believe it's a social media "trend" to make themselves feel different and fighting for something. I was a tomboy growing up and did boy stuff. It wasn't an issue, and I didn't ever feel I should have been a boy. I was just a girl who liked boy stuff, so what? They should like you say have counselling, but the only counselling they g3t is affirmative care. I love the needle work that you did it's really cool. On the subject you started talking about about the gender we have some kids at the school in a town that think they are cats. And they've gone so far as that the school now has to provide them with food and water bowls and litter boxes. Doesn't that sound just so crazy. And they're actually allowed to act like cats while in the classroom as well. I don't know and can't understand how the other students are able to concentrate with that going on.

I must be way behind the times too for think the whole idea is mad. I thank God for making me a girl but my mum and sisters used to say its a man's world and they had a better deal. I never believed that for I often felt compassion for my three brothers daddy and uncles for having to do the things that were considered not a job for a woman... like cold wet dirty outdoor jobs, burying dead animals, and looking after us girls and making sure no harm came to us. I am the middle one of 7 with 3 brothers and 3 sisters and even on the odd occasion when I may have thought lifes not fair I never regretted being female. I feel for anyone who is unhappy whatever the reason but still think God makes us as he chooses for reasons we may not understand and that we should trust him. God bless Ilona. I was not always happy about being a girl because I didn't like the traditionally feminine roles I was supposed to be following. I wanted to be out in the woods catching frogs and bugs. When puberty hit, I cried every day because I didn't want to be a woman. because womens' bodies were "dirty". My father had "dirty" mags and they showed naked women. I think in today's world I would have been considered transgender because I already rejected the second class status of women in society. I grew up to be perfectly happy to be a woman just still not always happy with gender roles.

I am all for age appropriate education but as a small part of a school curriculum. teaching acceptance of others . People should not be allowed to change sex b4 they are fully grown and councilled. We are told that to accept this stuff is to be kind,compassionate and inclusive...when it is in fact, the very opposite. Many of us are also very concerned at this ideology and the disproportionate, vicious backlash which happens (mainly to women) who speak about their concerns, even in the most moderate way (JK Rowling to name the most well known of many!). In the UK we have observed what happened when Biden signed in so called 'Self Identification' in law in the USA. This allowed anyone calling themselve a Woman (including fully intact men, as most are) to legally access womens (and girls) sex-segregated spaces, sports,prisons, girl guiding etc etc . Women who call themselves Men are, surprisingly enough, not rushing to go to mens prisons, compete with them in sports etc. My sexed body makes me a woman, and whatever I say...the world reacts to me as such. I am not simply a man without a pen*s, nor am I a state of mind ,or a set of false nails or breasts, and hair- flicking, pouting behavious.None of those thing make us women. Therapists are being compelled to 'affirm' not to explore the real issues (no child is 'born in the wrong body') as you very rightly suggestvis needed to support children. 'The surgery' is horrendous.It is experimental & has many complications, which are rarely spoken of.It is also multi - million industry which creates life-long, awful medical problems. Hmmmm. I am not aware of the idea that a person would change gender based on who they’d LIKE to be. There is physiological and chemical makeup that is responsible for making a person feel WHO they really are vs who they’d LIKE to be. I don’t think it is a mere matter of wishing..There is a strong undeniable “ pull”. , if you will, towards one gender or the other. This of course is also nurtured when a child is forming a personality based on this physical “pull” . A child can’t be taught or convinced that they can be one way or another . If physical gender specific hormones don’t exist then a person would not successfully make the transition! Interesting chat though. I do realize however that kids are taught ACCEPTANCE of others for their choices, which is important, but not taught it’s ok to be who you want at whim. I also was a tomboy like you and played a lot of sports with the neighborhood gang. I loved playing football and it could get rough. My mom was concerned i would seriously injure myself but she never told me that it all meant that i was a boy and could decide to be one if i wanted to. I know a little girl who's mother has decided to make her into a boy. She dresses her as a boy and gets her hair cut short. She tells her teachers to call her a boy. Ilona, children can decide about their gender, but they can't have any surgery or hormone treatment before they 16 or 18 years old (depending on the country). So technically it's only clothes, name and social representation, they can go back to original gender if they will make mistake, because of young age and not fully developed brain and nervous system. P.S. It's pretty impressive that you kept that doll for all these years.

Puberty blockers are being prescribed for younger children then cross s3x hormones after 16. These are not reversible and we do not know long term effects so technically we are experimenting on distressed children. Parents may take their children to other countries to have surgeries. We don't allow children to have tattoos before the age of 18. The prefrontal cortex is not fully developed until 25. Please see Kiera Bell story re Tavistock.

Hmmm. I have not been aware of a person deciding to change gender “ just because” . I think it’s a true physical pull in one direction or another based on what you really feel you ARE. Not what you WISH you were. There are physiological factors at work here- some sort of chemical makeup that some people are born with which is nurtured at the time a child begins to form a personality…I have only been aware ( in the news) recently of schools teaching gender acceptance but not encouraging children to change gender if they happen to admire traits of the opposite .
