I personally really love that your makeup choices are a bit “stale” because it obviously comes from such a good place. Even before the pandemic, you have been working toward a more sustainable makeup collection that is also more reflective of our collections as viewers. I also want to give kudos for not marketing a bunch of new makeup during this time. Taking into account people’s various financial situations and the strain that new makeup can put on those in the supply chain is really responsible. I appreciate you using your platform and position as a role model to influence your audience in a positive way!

I feel the need to say this... I've gone from essential worker, laid off, and then I got my job back in the last 2 months. I had family members get covid-19. My dad was in the hospital for 3 weeks with covid-19. There's been a lot going on (for everyone really,) and I've SO appreciated all your videos, and vlogs. I say this, because I'm angry at that comment saying your content is "stale." No, your content has been great, and exactly what I've needed! ❤
@jdkilpatrick20004 жыл бұрын
Laura L. It sounds like you’ve had a bit of a tumultuous last few months! I feel like I can kinda relate. The year started off with my dad having a “Widow Maker” heart attack on January 7th. We’re incredibly lucky that he survived, but it was terrifying - even more so with me being an ICU nurse, knowing all of the potential complications, in the midst of flu season. And then COVID-19 became a reality that affected basically every human life in one way or another. In one sense, I’m lucky to be an ICU nurse, because I’ve felt no financial impact. But it’s also terrifying, because I feel like I’m basically a walking COVID-19 incubator. I truly don’t care if I catch it - but I’m terrified of potentially passing it to someone else. And the fact that we’re supposed to re-use masks for shifts on end when they’re intended to be one-time use doesn’t help anything. 🙄 (I’ve been buying any surgical/N95 masks I can get my hands on so that I can use my own and not have to adhere to hospital rationing rules.) I’m so sorry that you’ve had to watch your father battle this. I hope he’s recovering well and has no lasting complications! I’ve personally witnessed some heartbreaking cases, and pray that no one I love has to deal with this. All that to say, I’ve enjoyed watching Jess even more so over the last 2 months. She’s seemed to have done her part in staying home as much as possible, and she’s realized that she’s incredibly lucky that she’s able to stay home AND make money at the same time. Not many people have had the luxury of both. And it’s so refreshing to watch a KZbinr be so thoughtful in realizing that maybe it’s not the right time to be trying out dozens of new $100+ products a week (not that Jess ever really did that, but she’s clearly more conscientious than many others at the moment).

Feeling guilty when taking time out for yourself is not an exclusively American feeling!! I'm from Pakistan and definitely feel it, specifically with so many pressures telling me I have to be productive all the time to meet certain expectations. I also think globalisation in the forms of increasing competitiveness and seeing people's lives progressing online all the time contribute to this. It's a kind of fomo, like "if I'm not seizing this opportunity, I will fall behind." This is why feeling still/not being able to do "productive things" during this pandemic is so hard for me and so many other people. I feel like I'm falling behind, but I have to remind myself that this is a shared feeling amongst all of us right now. That's why watching your videos bring me so much calm. This is interesting, because it highlights that certain phrases/words have a negative connotation (decluttering) and some have a positive one (one in, one out). Even though they are fundamentally not that different.
@theresag19694 жыл бұрын
Personally I think they do it for attention. Guess what they get a lot of attenton, most negative people do. In fact many get a entire video devoted to someone rudeness or someone being triggered by the slightest thing. Apparently it works well.Yet, I have never seen an entire video devoted a particular commenter who have written a long glowing comment. They get a short thank you and then they move on. Why can't people ignore curmudgeons? Human nature is very interesting.

I was laughing so hard during Tyler's glasses story - When I first started dating my husband, he had this blazer he would wear, and it embarrassed me to NO end. Oh, it's not just ANY blazer.... he had cut out the logo from a Snakes on a Plane T-shirt and stitched it onto the back of the blazer! Remember that movie? Yeah, I know. I was at a dinner with friends and one of his friends said something that stuck with me after I told him how much I hated that blazer... he said, "Yeah, it's bad, but no one would ever look at him wearing it and think, 'that guy has a stick up his a**!'" and that statement alone made me realize that this was absolutely my soul mate! Down to earth, fun, unabashedly himself ALWAYS, gentle and kind and wonderful! We chose well!! Tyler is perfect for you - and 5 years later, we don't regret looking past the granny-glasses or the Snakes-on-a-plane-blazer!!

One thing that has really helped me when I think about trying new makeup is that I think about the cost as paying for an experience: is this price worth it to me for the experience of trying this new product? I have a large collection and I won’t use things up necessarily, but I don’t think that’s wasteful. I love trying products, but in order to keep it in check, every new product has to satisfy two criteria: the cost has to be worth it for the experience of trying that product, and it has to be a product I truly think I’ll enjoy long term. I don’t want to buy ONLY to try something out, but I also don’t want to buy thinking that I’ve failed if I don’t use it up. If I decide down the road the item doesn’t fit in my collection I can declutter it to a friend, but I try to buy only what I think I’ll like and genuinely want to try. So basically I just described your channel after you stopped getting PR 😂

Ever since your channel pivoted, the videos I have enjoyed the most are your daily/weekly vlogs as well as family event centered vlogs. Your approach to both the routine and special events in life is very relatable and straight up helpful at times! I feel like your channel has something for everyone now, compared to when it was primarily a makeup channel.

Honestly, I love all your videos Jessica. I love when you try new things, but also when you keep showing us the ones you truly love because it helps us to pinpoint what is good out there. Keep doing you! You're doing great!

The ping pong battle of always trying to do “ the next right thing” gets so daunting on KZbin . People begged for more honesty than you’ve become boring or repetitive. It’s stressful to know what to do, so in the end all we can do is what makes US happy and just hope we nail the majority of what people want.

I absolutely love the current direction of your channel! Your videos are the only ones I watch without fail every single time! Your authenticity comes through and it is truly refreshing. Everything you talk about is something you truly recommend and not just something you are pushing or talking about because everyone else is.

For the hip thing, try doing those leg exercises that look like a dog is taking a pee. I have no idea what it’s called but it has strengthened my hip and helped so much!

Try cod liver oil. It's recommended to people with hip pain especially if you're going to be doing exercise.

Nothing use to annoy me more than when ppl would ask when was my fiance and I getting married or going to have children!! We got together at 16 (now 34 🤯) well EVERYONE would ask us constantly "when u guys gonna have a baby!?" "You two have been together FOREVER,when are you getting married!?". People would literally say "what's wrong with you that he hasn't married you yet!?" 🤬 I absolutely hated being asked those questions and it sometimes is just intrusive and down right annoying, especially they way people would talk to me about it. But we had our first in 2014 she's 6 and then everyone started with the "When are you going to give Lylah a sibling?" 🙄 I just had my second girl 15 months ago and finally everyone has stopped asking about how many children I'm going to have, but those same ppl have moved to other personal questions. It just seems like the ppl that ask personal questions over and over just never stop being nosey! If you can't tell this is a touchy subject for me haha

AND don't forget.... when your kids grow up, those questions will come back again as when is your kids going to get marry...etc 😂😂😂😂😂

For your hip, try looking into gluteus medius strengthening. This is often a weak area for women, particularly after giving birth. (I’m a PT)
@HNGuthrie4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for what you do! My husband's grandmother (84) benefited immensely from PT, and my mother (75) is currently getting PT for her hip after a minor fall. It has really helped them maintain mobility and independence as they age!

You definitely aren’t stale. I love that you reuse products because that’s real life. Thank you for sharing your thoughts on declutters. I was one of those people who only saw waste when you did a de clutter and then quickly rebought. I’ve done the same myself and haven’t been happy with myself when I have realized what I was doing. Love that you have branched out and are doing more than makeup.

You are so amazing! I actually feel like your content has been the best representation of how makeup consumerism has evolved. When I first subscribed, amassing products and samples was so fun and creative. Now after that passion chilled out, I feel happier with my small collection and appreciate how real you've always been! My favorite thing you've said is something like "The amount of makeup an average person has can fit into a makeup travel bag". Forgive my poor paraphrasing! Thank you for being so real. 🥰🥰🥰
