I was taught to add sugar first then add the water. So I have never tried to add water first. I may have to try to see what happens. If you try it out let me know how it turns out.

I can say that it is a thick syrup that is great over ice cream. Maybe someone from the sauce and gravy community, that has experience with cakes, can let us know.

@@thesauceandgravychannel I did not get a chance to try that but did use the instant espresso from Cafe Bustelo and it was amazing. I added it to a flourless chocolate cake and salted caramel ice cream
