I love it! 😂 I picked up that cup about 15 years ago from a yard sale for $.25 each (I bought 2) Much like yourself I just loved the way it looked, the way it felt in the hand, the weight, it was just a really nice heavy duty glass. And I can also confirm they are perfect for hot chocolate 👍🏻

My grandmother had a set of those Nescafe mugs back in the early 70's and I hadn't thought about them (or Viewmasters and True Vues) until I saw this episode. Brought back good memories! You're so right about the power of KZbin and finding kindred souls who share your interests and post helpful and interesting information. My wife thinks I'm crazy for the time I spend on KZbin, but I wouldn't get much of her honeydew list done if it weren't for the helpful information I learned on KZbin.

John, when i was in the food business, a buddy of mine worked for Nestle, those mugs were sold in a set of 4 and were to promote their instant coffee as being the Best in the World Instant Coffee! I remember he had a trunk full of 4 mug sets and would give to grocery store managers and buyers to get them to put up displays and buy promotional amounts of the coffee. Of course he gave all his buddies (other sales reps) all we wanted. Back in the 70 and 80’s, there were reps for all the major food companies, there were about 45-70reps here in Shreveport. On Friday afternoon, we would all meet up at a Denny’s , back our cars up in a huge circle, raise our trunks and the swapping would start….anything you wanted or needed was available….it was a benefit of the job as we were not paid that well…..

I drink an 8 cup pot of black coffee a day. I also consume a few glasses of water. I think I’m immune to caffeine. Some nights I can have a double espresso and go right to bed. When I was out of town on a project and out in the field all day without any coffee I never got that coffee withdrawal headache that some people get. Those Tru-Vue viewers are pretty neat. That Bakelite one cleaned up nice. I’ve noticed that some Phillips screwdrivers have a pronounced point whereas the screws are flattened at the bottom. So I’ve taken to grinding the tip off and they seem to work better. Another great video. Thanks.

As I kid I would drink my hot cocoa out of them after sleigh riding. Now I wonder where those mugs got to ? On a weekday I have 3 to 4 cups of coffee. I usually have a few more than that on the weekends though. Thanks for unlocking a great childhood memory. Maybe I will see you at Jacktown.

Believe it or not, just as a coincidence while watching this video, I'm having a coffee from fresh ground beans from my great grandmothers coffee grinder that I finally repaired and cleaned last week, served in my grandfathers old mug with a sturing spoon from the truck brand he drove for over 50 years.
Very interesting. I am a simple guy. I fell in love with the the inexpensive automatic multimeter you recommended and it fits me perfectly. I am also guilty of wiring without shutting off power so will invest in the insulated screwdrivers if I live that long. 😂

No coffee for me - but I’ve had that exact globe mug from nestle for more than 35 years - I would serve my little girl chocolate milk or hot cocoa in it - and I would purposely call it the “world cup” not globe mug, knowing that as she grew up and moved away, anytime soccer “world cup” was ever mentioned, she would think back fondly sharing time with me. She's all grown up, moved away, has a little one of her own. “World Cup” means that globe mug with cocoa and time spent with her dad. Mission accomplished.

Thanks John, I remember having a Viewmaster, it was a nice old one made of a black bakelite like plastic, we were given it by our neighbours who had travelled extensively and had picked up tourist disks on their travels, so we have sets of Egypt, New York, California, India, Italy, Australia etc, we spent hours clicking through those images. Later on my little brother had one which had cartons on it, but by then they were much more cheaply made ! Great "tip" on re-gtinding the screwdrivers, I find these days with the hardened tips they are more likely to shear off than deform and wear the edges, then the only option is a narrow flat tip or an Awl ! The meter comparison was interesting, looking forward to seeing what you do with the vintage meter. Back when I worked in financial services I used to drink 6-8 coffees a day, but nowadays I have between 1 in summer to 3 in winter per day !

Hi John, I had one of the stereo viewers when we lived in CT. Our house was built in 1913 and we had fun furnishing it with antiques. We even had things like the stereo viewer and a bunch of cards. In our foyer, we had a 1920’s play bill from the Amsterdam Theater, a period ladies hand bag and a set of opera glasses. It was fun decorating our home with those things. Great meter segment. I had to chuckle as I have the exact same variac. And then the Phillips tutorial. Oh boy, the safety Sally’s are not going to like your grinder, but you sure have an amazing knowledge base. Well done. I spring 1 cup a day, but it is a 32 oz. Ball JR coffee mug with a nice beefy handle and a lid with a hole for a straw. I start sipping at 8:00 when I start work and the coffee is done by lunchtime. Hazelnut is my flavor of choice. Cream no sugar. Thanks for another great video. Best Regards, John

Coffee was not taxed so many started drinking coffee. Of course they drank a lot of hot chocolate in those days as well. Think of 90+ percent dark chocolate in water with no sweetner.
