I get rice and beans all the time and the dates are very hard to read but the lady from the health department said dried beans are good for four years and bags of rice is good for two years if that helps you and you have a very nice food pantry. Have a good week.😊

Thank you so much for the information. I want to get the information on it so I use the oldest items first when cooking.

We freeze our dried cherries and add them to muffins when we bake them. We also at them to cookies as well.

Nice idea! I just put them in my pantry and use them in a variety of ways. I am about to do a video on using some of these dried fruit and nuts up.

Good morning Suzzie ❤ That is a great treat with the beans! Funny story in November of 2022 our local Safeway store in Washington state had Bush's baked beans on a special sale for $0.49 each and it was not limited to a specific amount. So I bought so I bought 20 cans for $9.80 lol. A few days later I went back to the store and they were still on sale! So of course I bought 20 more! And every time after that I looked and bought more until they weren't on sale any longer! Now they cost about $5 a can so I am glad I bought so many! And they still haven't reached the best buy date of august 2024! I like to add things like brown sugar, liquid smoke, molasses, onions, and even a little heat like jalapenos.

Girl, YOU hit the jackpot! LOL What a find! Now, I used to do the same with my baked beans but I have since cut down on the sugar intake and now I just eat them as they are with some diced onions and peppers added.

Yes ive heard thiß also about pasta and rice also, the starch is less if refrigsrated than eaten. It releases the starch much slower into your system. Also if you eat proteins first, then vegetables, then starches it causes the starches a lot slower.

How many food banks/pantries are you able to go to ? and how often? Before we moved we had lots that you could attend and they all had different rules. None of them required you to show income etc. There was one open M, W, and F weekly and you could go every day 12 times a month! There were two on Tuesday. 1 allowed you to go weekly the other was twice a month. And there were two on Friday one was 1 time a month and the other weekly. Where we live now we have 1 and you are allowed to go 1 time per month. Although they did have a mobile pantry this month but in the 5 months we have been here that is the first one I have heard about. You got some nice things to add to your pantry!

There are about 5 in my area that I can go to every week if I want to. I choose to go to 2 and only when I feel a need to do so. I also go to an essentials pantry once a month for toiletries, laundry soap, dish soap and other things.

@@justcallmesuzzie I think all the food banks that were in my hometown all filled a different need. I think you may understand what I mean. One had tons of breads and pastries (didn't go to this) which I didn't mention above. One of the Tuesday pantries had this box that I loved! It was the throw away bin. when you got your box they would just put it in your vehicle. You never got out of your car. After getting your box you would start leaving the parking lot and there was a bin where you could look through your stuff and put anything back you wouldn't use. A lot of people would put back crazy stuff that I would be overjoyed to get. Dried and canned beans, Canned veggies, peanut butter, canned salmon and tuna. I would come home with enough food to feed us all week long just from that box! Another always had tons of fresh veggies and fruit! It was a Friday one. I was very blessed to have these available because I was injured at work in October of 2016 and didn't return to work until November of 2023. Cuurently since we moved My hubby no longer is working right now. He had a total knee replacement and is going to physical Therapy 3 times a week. I work as a substitute teacher in between his appointments. The pantry we have here gives a bag each month with various items ranging from laundry soap, dish soap, bar soap, body wash, shampoo, deodorant, toilet paper, and toothpaste. They also have Bombay socks if you need them. They give you a list of items you have and you check off what you can use. I feel very blessed to have this available to us!

That is always good to label your shelf food! What do you use your chickpeas/garbanzo beans for? I like to put them in a 15 bean soup or make hummus with them! I don't think dry beans have a best buy. They are good forever! If your can of food is past the date what do you do with it? When we moved I went through all our canned foods because we could not take everything with us. Anything near or past the best by I gave away to friends and family. I just found some shelf milk with an best by of oct of 23 and it is still good.

Yes, I do go through the pantry at least once a year and put my hands on everything. I started doing it this year and set the month of January to do that and then eat only from my storage for January and February to get used up what needs to be used. I do give away to families in need around me as well. The chips will go to a family with kids because I do not eat spicy chips. LOL

Perhaps the year is 11-22 for Nov 22, and the rest is the lot number, Sometimes they are backwards and sometimes a last digit is the last digit of the year. They are really weird with their date codes.
@justcallmesuzzie7 ай бұрын
That is possible. I just put the date I received it and try to keep it in my pantry no longer than a year.

Suzzie what is the info you found out about pasta? Can you have it and how much? When my husband was alive and if I remember correctly he could only have a cup of cooked pasta on his diabetic diet. I may be wrong but if you know the answer correctly please let me know.
@justcallmesuzzie8 ай бұрын
I talked about it in this video and put a link in the description. What I discovered in the recent research is that if you cook the pasta, refrigerate it for 24 hours and then heat it back up the starches change to a resistant one and is less likely to spike your blood sugar. If you then pair it with a high fiber side then it decreases it even more. So, I am going to cook my pasta, refrigerate it and eat it the next day one serving at a time and pair it with a high fiber side.
