Fantastic to see and hear these two legendary Lions talk rugby. Gareth Edwards was a magician in his playing days, greatly appreciated by myself even though speaking as an Englishman he did his best stuff against England. And let's not forget that before he was a commentator, John Taylor was a great player himself. I also wish to state for the record that Gilbert makes the best rugby balls in existence. Belated congratulations for 200 years in the game.

Faulkner, Windsor, Price, Wheel, Martin, Taylor / Cobner / David / Evans, Davies, Edwards, John / Bennett, JJ, Fenwick, Gravell, Davies, JPR. The greatest era of Welsh rugby. My team, England, almost never beat these Welsh wizards...As a kid we learnt how to play this fantastic game based on the first 5 minutes of that 1973 BaaBaas game. Great memories and huge respect.

And some of those names are no longer with us, if just for memories. Williams just passed a few days ago, January 8, 2024, of Bacterial Meningitis. How did he contract that?
@hunterluxton597610 ай бұрын
@@ldfreitas9437 just a bit of bad luck. We come in contact every day with bacteria, on this ocassion it developed and engulfed him. I had cellulitis twice within 3 years on my face. On both ocassions, the doctors were very anxious as it can lead to sepsis very quickly. Then it's curtains. JPR was nearly 75, his body's immune system not as strong as a 30 year old.

Yea I remember Will Carling saying, growing up, his heroes were Welsh. Then someone told him he was English 😂

Gareth Edwards in anyone’s book is a legend of the game of rugby and you can tell he’s still modest and deferential towards the sport and the people who played around him (including the opposition) - I grew up watching him and Phil Bennett play and he’s unquestionably one of my lifetime rugby heroes.

Not disagreeing with his Legend status at all (as an older chap I remember him dismantling England year after year 😮) but for some younger fans they are probably going with Lomu, Wilkinson, Carter, McCaw, Pienaar, Eales, Colby, Tuisova, Johnson… it’s a very long list to choose from.

Great try and the conversion from heaven ( after TGR went over in the corner in the last minute) in that famous match v Scotland at Murrayfield.

John Taylor was not only a very good rugby player, he was a man full of principles and was not prepared to put a game above those principles. Just think of his stand against South Africa at the time. Many very good rugby players; perhaps fewer decent human beings.

Taylor famously refused to play South Africa out of his conviction about apartheid.

The true hero of that tour. Gerald Davies also refused to go, no?

I also refused to go on that tour. Although, sadly in my case, not being part of the team greatly diminished the social impact of the gesture 🫤🏉🙈…
