I’m 63, so I have heard about the M1 and seen them in magazines. I saw one in person a few years ago in a Costco parking lot in Lynnwood Washington! I couldn’t believe what I was seeing, first the car, and second, that someone would drive it to Costco and leave it alone in the lot! I took a zillion pictures and sent them to my sons. Neither one had heard of the car and both are car guys, one with a model S and the other with a Gen 5 Viper! I have an 03 Z06.

I actually saw one of these back around '79-'80, in a private garage in Oklahoma City in Quail Creek. I didn't fully realize what I was seeing, I new it was special and I've never forgotten it.

Dennis, back in 1981, my fathers business partner had a exact white M1 in Ireland, and it was amazing to be taken for a spin in it.... I’ll never forget the acceleration in it.... amazing. Looking forward to more updates on this one, incredible

I can't wait to see tha paint! When I was a kid in the 80's a dentist had a white M1 that he took to work and parked at a local shopping centre, in a reserved parking, and I remember trying to see it when I went by.

I lived on that road in that neighborhood where those jeeps are located from 2004 to 2006. I remember the Jeep. The car wash. The donut shop. Walmart Albertsons BOA down the road. Good times. And memories

Dennis, there was a red M1 with a wing in Plano. I lived in Parkway Estates by Coit road when that area was being built. I was just a kid about 13 years old and I would always see that Red M1 fly down Wyeth drive every day. My dad said that he raced that M1 on Coit Rd late one evening. He had a 1980 930 Turbo and I believe, that it was the only light blue 930 with black wheels in Plano. His 930 had Virginia tags. He traveled back and forth from Virginia and eventually we moved to Virginia in 1984. However, I still remember that M1.

Back in 2012, I was out for a drive in my recently-bought '99 E39 M5. I parked it up in a car park to go for a walk in the countryside. When crossing the road, I saw an M1 approach ! I took a photo of it as it passed, so you could see that with my (somewhat common) M5 in the background. I was chuffed to bits to see that !

Takes me back to seeing one of these in red at the old Riverside International Raceway. It was owned by the owner of the raceway and was garaged there. Beautiful car.

Not to brag but I’ve been lucky enough to have driven one. I can’t say it was the best experience because I knew it was a rare bird, nervous doesn’t come close to my emotions at the time. That said, I LOVED every second I was able to spend in and around this car!!

When i was 10 yrs old i was out shopping with my mother (1987). I got a book called exotic automobiles and a m1 was in it...may have been maroon. Very unique shape.

Hi from the UK. Great car......a little story for you. In the mid eighties a UK private co I worked for sold out to Lockheed. A couple of the now rich directors who were into cars bought themselves toys. One day a testarosa turns up....red of course. A few days later the other director who I knew better came up to me and said come over to the warehouse I have something to show you. Well there in resplendent white was a BMW M1. Out we went for a drive and what a car. He had paid £65k for a virtually new car.......He only bought it to be different!! It didn't do well in the Uk...LH drive..wrong badge (snobbery!) etc. He sold it some years later for not a lot of money. Bet he wishes he still had it........it is a true supercar.

Thank you Dennis I found you thru RR @GMG and a few weeks ago I found these Coffee Walks to be extremely insightful for somebody like myself that doesn’t know crap about cars but I must have some level of gear head. Maybe it’s the fact that one of my neighbors when I was 10 raced dragsters and funny cars. Anyway I’m learning more about cars then I ever have watching your videos. All your little details keep me coming back ( ex how many M1s are made) I have so bad news though I still not a Jeep lover YET. However seeing some more of the most insane Black Mountain builds you’ve done might change my mind!!

Very similar to my Pantera. Looks like the deck lids could almost interchange :) The fuel pump and accumulator also look just like it was removed from a Ferrari with the bracket and everything. Very cool find!

I think that's quite a considerable amount of detail versus many other restorations. No doubt it will be the #1 in the world. I'd like to see you take it to the speedway and warm it up.

Amazing car and project. Definitely glad it’s being saved. I might be wrong but the letters and lines on the valve cover are suppose to be bare aluminum on the road cars. Might want to check that to make it 100% correct under the bonnet.

Beautiful M1!! I got the chance to see one of those in person once in my life in Portland Oregon. What a rare beauty. This was in the mid 90s I think. The couple were stopped at a rest stop, I'm not even sure why I pulled in but sure was glad I did afterwards. I must've spent at least an hour talking with the owners of that car.

I worked to Bavarian Motors intl in the very early 80's. Alf Gephart brought a white M1 and a group think it was group 4 race M! and drove it in the 24 hours of daytona in the gt class, with the support of BMW motorsports.

Thank you, sir! I remember many years ago seeing one of the race M1s that was given a crazy paint job by some famous artist. Fell in love with the M1 then!
