You're attacking Bernie to distract from the fact that Yang is disingenuous in his alleged support for M4A and that his administration feels comfortable charging journalists with fake crimes and putting them through sham court proceedings. @@danalexander2149 One can always pick apart anybody's policy from a narrow view. So let's use the same narrow vision to see how Andrew $1k can help. Many women in abusive homes have problems leaving because they simply cannot cover rent. $1k can provide that incentive although it still take a significant mental shift to accomplish that break. $1k can also help those who have lost hope in finding a job in their city. $1k can help those who subject to employment abuses. Its makes people less exploitable. Even those who are layed off from a FJG program. FJG can't help women who are caregivers. FJG can't employ the entire country. FJG forces difficult choices for people who want to stay in their towns to help their aging parents versus leaving town for a job. $1k can help them take care of their sick family members. Wealth tax have failed to work in many 1st world countries. We don't need to prove the obvious and think it would work here. Rich people will contiue to have sophisticated in ways shelter their wealth. They are extremely mobile with the money. Many other first world countries have abandoned trying to apply wealth tax. It just doesn't work. Linking the $1k with VAT (which many many sophisticated countries have) is genius.

15 dollar minimum wage will be disastrous to small businesses and the economy in general, yes it sounds good on paper but that's about it. Same goes for Free college you have to have some skin in the game otherwise most people wouldn't even bother to get a degree or finish what they start. UBI is different because it's capitalism where income doesn't start at Zero, like the famous board game Monopoly. People would have a safety net to take risks, open business, pay for basic schooling without having to resort to wage slavery and would create more paths for people to live productive and meaningful lives.

Cameron, it's actually variable, the effects of a $15 minimum wage. It's not all disastrous. In some places it is, as you say destructive, particularly in poorer areas where small businesses can't afford it. In others, $15 will hit a sweet spot and actually will stimulate the economy, much in the same way the freedom dividend will, and finally, there will unfortunately be places where $15 an hour won't be enough and actually wouldn't change the situation at all for either employer or employee. The unreliable outcomes of a $15 an hour wage increase is why i don't really support it. In the worst of cases, small businesses close, which hurts everyone. The worst case scenario for the freedom dividend is still within the control of the citizen. I prefer that over a lottery policy that has variable potency based on where you happen to reside. But to be clear, it's not always destructive. Studies have shown that wage increases can and have stimulated the economy based on location.
@kwombok5 жыл бұрын
I don't know about disastrous. Many countries around the world and many cities and states have been raising the minimum wage without disaster... but these are in cities and states with robust economies and strong social nets. One thing a higher federal minimum wage will certainly do though is increase the incentives for companies to replace minimum wage workers with automation or software or artificial intelligence...
@roy41735 жыл бұрын
@@kwombok In a way it's only accelerating the inevitable picture Yang paints for society. The naysayers who claim automation isn't a real threat, yet support a higher federal minimum wage without due consideration of location and economic health will very quickly realize they spoke too soon. Again, the increased minimum wage won't always spell destruction to small businesses. Depending on the context, it could be even helpful. But because the results are so unreliable, it isn't a very good solution to the wealth gap in our society. It's truly a band-aid at the end of the day.

Quote: VAT combined with UBI IS Progressive Taxation that benefits working class but not rich. Even if entire cost of the vat is passed to consumers, low-income folks would easily get 20x more in UBI THAN THEY PAY in VAT, because survival basic (food, clothing, heating) would be exempt from the VAT. But rich folks, who spend more on luxurious would end up paying more in VAT than they receive in UBI
