As I recall, Cardinal Fernandez has explained that he was a young priest attempting to reach the teens in his parish by asking them to respond to the love of God in the same vein of spirituality as the Song of Songs 1:1 from the Bible. Are you one of those people who would take the Song of Songs out of the Bible because of its obvious use of sexual images to describe the Bridal relationship between God and His Bride, the Church?

I was really blessed to have discovered Michael lofton months before i started RCIA. My sponsor and RCIA director told me they dont believe francis is pope, that i should listen to Taylor Marshall. I smiled and said papal infallibility is one of our core doctrines, dont you still have faith in the succsession of Peter? They smiled and said yes but we can only pray a true pope comes along. If it wasnt for lofton, the teachings of those sedevecantists might have created a real stumbling block. I may not have joined the church.... if catholics dont believe in the pope, what chances do we have of convincing other groups of christians of the papacy?

@saltysaintz yeah I mentioned it to him, this was all last year. I was confirmed last easter. I just didn't say anything to the priest at the time. I mentioned it to him, his response was to be patient. Our parish is under resesourced, the trads are the more active ones it seems

He gets on KZbin as soon as any story "breaks" without much if any time for discernment and fear mongering is great for views and booksells. Idk the man's heart, and I do believe he means well, but sadly he's confused and would do well to get off the internet for a few months and look back with an open mind at the things he's said over these last few years about our Pope. The pope is head of a Church of 1.3 BILLION people. It's a lot to be aware of. The Synod on Synodality is meant to solve some of the problem of the Vatican being cut off from ANY parts of the Church. We will see what will come out of the sessions next year. Also, just how closely are you following Fr. James Martin? His is a very difficult ministry, and I have not heard of his stepping quite over the line, yet. The German bishops had not stepped over the line until just recently. Now that they have, the pope has taken away their authority to teach heresy, and called them to come to Rome to explain themselves. Let us keep our Church in our prayers

I was raised Protestant. For years I condemned Pope Francis, until I went to Mass on Christmas morning and I found the fullness of truth. Dear @kwazooplayingguardsman5615, it would be charitable to read the pope's writings without re-interpreting what he actually says. He has NEVER suggested that homosexual unions are to be blessed. He has been very clear about that. No one needs to write him any more "dubia" on that point! But there are people who then say to those struggling with that particular sin "The Church doesn't want you." WRONG! The Church wants all of us sinners to come and be cleansed of our sins, whatever our sins may be! So the pope is very clear on that point as well -- we welcome sinners who are trying to be pure!! The German "Synodal Way" has certainly shown us the *wrong* way to practice synodality. And the pope has called the German bishops to Rome to explain themselves. The Synod on Synodality, on the other hand, is addressing the very problem you began your comment with -- the pope is trying to provide a means by which over a billion Catholics can voice their concerns to the pope, Let us pray for our Church and her visible head, our pope!

Perhaps they were crystal clear to theologians, but even as a semi-informed layman his answers were somewhat muddled and seemed a bit like fence sitting. It definitely doesn't mean Pope Francis wants SS blessings as some took it, but his responses contributed to confusion around this. On a related note, whether the Church can bless SS "marriages" seems like a pretty easy yes/no question. Not sure why complexity or multiple paragraphs are needed.

Papa Francisco is simply trying to answer accurately with proper care for those under the weight of truth. The Cross is not something to beat people with or torture people with. As Christians, we are called to carry other people’s cross or burdens. This includes the weight of the cross of SS attractions or family situations that are deeply ensaturated with these things needing healing. They are not easy Yes/No topics. Everyone needs God’s blessing and grace to turn to what is good and holy - to himself thru Christ. God is love. Seems like some forget that. I believe PF is always trying to remind us of the God who is a physician (the Great Physician) and the Healer, the Comforter, the Shepherd of our souls. We can all empathize, I imagine, with coming out of broken situations (at the very least caused by sin somewhere) as a journey requiring God’s constant grace leading us onward through the wounds on to healing.

Well the letter was written to theologians. When those theologians decided to lie about the contents of the letter, it was published. The answer was “no” two years ago. The letter was pretty clear to me and I’m just a catechumen.

The dubia itself was purposely formed to also be ambiguous. It says "same sex union" -- doesn't say what kind of union and leaves too much open. So it was answered accordingly and we got a good answer for it. A brotherhood is a same sex union btw, but not analogous to marriage, look up adelphonpoeisis.

You are totally correct about people miscommunicating about women priests in relation to Pope Francis. When it comes to the present moment, I do think that there is a middle path that doesn't get on to either bandwagon (Altman, Marshall, Kennedy or Mike Lewis, Fr. James Martin). The middle path sees that there are real concerns rising to the surface that are SIGNIFICANT and shouldn't be downplayed. I think people like Cardinal Muller, Cardinal Pell, Dr. Ralph Martin, Dr. Scott Hahn and Erick Ybarra recognize this. ***It is very pre-mature to say that Cardinal Feranadez is doing a terrific job. We will see what he does with the German situation and then we can decide. If Cardinal Fernandez and Pope Francis allow the German situation to survive, thrive, and spread throughout Europe to other bishops' conferences, then we will know the answer that they are neglectful fathers. If they nip it in the bud per their job description, then they will be great watchmen over the House of Israel/the Church and great fathers who guard the garden. ***If it goes the former route, then the bishops are required to discipline the German bishops in some form although this would very atypical.

@@susand3668 Thanks, I rejoice at any move towards Orthodoxy and hope they will actually shut down all aspects of the program. The communication from the Vatican has been very up and down throughout the last couple of years so we won't know the actual outcome until actual actions are taken. This would have never happened under Benedict's watch , and if attempted, would have lasted 5 seconds since there would have been no oxygen in the atmosphere. Unfortunately, big appointments like Cardinal Hollerich and ambigious dubia (per Cardinal Fernandez) responses keep giving the Germans plenty of oxygen to keep going. Again, I can't stand the far out Trads bashing the Pope on the daily for $$$, but I also think there are plenty of the Vatican officials are breathing life into heterodox thinking and movements. So it ain't a real pretty time no matter how a person dices it up.

He is, as he told us 10 years ago, a loyal son of the Church. But I do wince when I see a "Vatican spokesman" try to "explain", and only make things murkier! You are right, things would have been different if Pope Benedict XVI had stayed. From my pov, all this slandering seems to come mostly from Americans so I’m wondering if it’s some sort of culture crash going on. For me, reading the English translation, it was crystal clear what the Pope meant. But I have always understood what the pope is saying. Because he is someone who seems to understand humans on a profound level and the way he speaks makes the cross easier for people to carry. American here 😉 Yeah, I have often thought a lot of issues people, mainly Americans and other predominately English countries, have with what Pope Francis says and acts comes from cultural clashes. I don’t know Spanish, but in my part of Texas there’s a lot of Hispanic and Latin Americans around and it’s pretty easy to pick out the differences in language and culture. Pope Francis is the first non-European Pope in the Seat of Peter, and came from Argentina. Latin America has had a very turbulent history with religion, politics, social, economic, etc that I think Europeans and Americans haven’t had in a long while. A common attack I see against Pope Francis is his emphasis on the poor means he endorses Socialism or Liberal Theology. 1) He was targeted by such groups during his time in Argentina because he opposed them, so I highly doubt he supports any of that and has made homilies and proclamations to the counter the ‘modernist’ label quite clearly and 2) He saw a lot of poverty that is widely different from how Western poverty is. Not to mention a lot of violence, corruption, anxiety, fear, clashes of various ideologies, and general lack of human respect. I can see why the issue of the poor is close to his heart, just as Jesus held a great love for the poor and desired they be regarded as worthy of human dignity. I can’t help but shake my head at people whining that Pope Francis won’t listen to their honestly opinionated issues when he’s seen people literally starving in the streets and being punished/tortured/killed for no reason. Recently he went to Mongolia, the first Pope to ever do so, and I can only imagine how excited the Mongolian Catholics (who make up way less than 1% of the population and are under strict scrutiny by the government there) were to see the Vicar of Christ come and speak words of love and encouragement to them. Meanwhile, Westerners who have it way better in terms of religious freedom and can know more about his day to day activities continue complaining he won’t act the way they want him to.

... Discern whether there are... ...a supplication to live better... Pope Francis did not decree that such a blessing exists. He says that one must discern if it's possible. Blessing the members of a disordered union may be something that needs to be answered. A young ordered couple that are not in matrimony may ask the same thing, can they be blessed? Prudence says no, but should they have to reconcile to receive a blessing for them to amend their lives? Maybe. Every week people who are in mortal sin walk up for a blessing in place of the Eucharist. Should that be abandoned too?

An additional blessing/request for strength to maintain and live a holy life in soul, mind, and body may be something that can be offered. Many straight single people confess their mortal sin of masturbation; yet still in heart and mind struggle with fantasies. Can a priest…should a priest…offer a blessing for help and strength to overcome the urge both mind and body?

Dear @kiarajohnson484, I don't think the whole story has been revealed yet. The Vatican is letting Bishop Strickland save face by not publishing their reasons for his dismissal from his job, but historically, such dismissals have always been for grave matters. Bishop Strickland himself has dropped hints. He has admitted to stepping on fellow bishops' toes, which leads to speculation that stunts like praying outside the Dodger stadium to the detriment of the local bishop's Mass for Reparation, were taken rather seriously. But mainly all we have are speculations. Looking around at the stated positions of other bishops, we can be sure that it wasn't done because of Bishop Strickland's pro-life stance. By his refusal to join the USCCB meeting, and implying (by praying outside while they met) that he was not allowed in, he kind-of showed an immaturity that bishops should not have.That's in my opinion. I do like him as a person, and I am praying for him.

I read the response to the Dubia and it left a lot of room for interpretation going one way or the other. Traditionally dubias have been answered by yes or no's that is why the bishops asked for yes or no answers. When you accuse Taylor Marshall of lying can you be more specific? Which video and the time stamps and how and why do you think he is lying. So far I only have general statements in this video. Regardless, he has emphasized to everyone about staying in the church.
