Great advice, thank you! Also, before you even go on a date, always run a background check. You’d be surprised how many narcissists/ con artists have criminal history. I wish I knew this years ago… And BEWARE of picture tell-tell signs. If someone has a single picture of himself staring in the mirror, you’re likely dealing with a narcissist. I dated someone whose profile had one (bathroom) picture and he also lied about where he lived- over an HOUR away! He lied about so many things, it took me awhile to unravel it… Never trust anybody until they EARN your trust. If you don’t feel safe next to someone, that’s probably a sign to run before it’s too late. Take care and keep your standards high! We all deserve the best! ❤🙏💯🌹

Sound advice all round. The most important thing is for people to ask for a phone/video call as soon as possible, and cut off contact if they refuse. Many people, once they've been messaging for a while, become invested in the illusion that the scammer is genuine. A week just feels way too fast for me, because I think, “What if they are a maniac?” I realize when I hold off like this, that I’m only giving potential dates the same exact thoughts about me 😂 It’s difficult, damned if you do damned if you don’t, but I’m trying to work through it. @@CoffeewithCarey Oh believe me, I have met and had relationships with some real men who couldn't or wouldn't manage their money. Always wanting financial help. Poor dears were always having problems, causing them to run out of money. Or having a reason why I had to buy them a car. I don't even have a driver's license. Always a reason why they couldn't pay back any loans. Would take the rent money and spend it on some luxury for themselves etc etc. That kind of behaviour. It's as much of a pain in the @rse in its own way, as having a begging scammer. But at least you are on the spot and can keep an eye on things a lot better.

They are always abroad, widowers or they were cheated on by their wives (so you will feel bad for them and they get your simpathy), pour a lot of compliments and love declarations in a too short time after the first talking, usually parents already deceased and no kids or if one of them is living in another country, they have a military career, they are engineer or a doctor. They have large texts creating a bio and make you questions that make you feel like you are in a job interview. To me, the bottom line is: somebody I only know on line and never met, will never mean more to me than an acquaintance, tops. Not even a friend I would call them, let alone boyfriend. In order to progress in the relationship I need to meet in person. Thank you for the important content, we need to help each other.

Except that whole first paragraph you just typed out is not true at all. They are 50 men sitting in a call center, texting women in the United States and pretending to be one person, instead of a whole shift crew.

A lot of these techniques the scammers use are the same ones that are employed by psychopaths / sociopaths. Having dated one years ago, I'm more aware of these tactics. I only recently joined tinder, and within a few days I had already encountered three different crypto scammers. Something just didn't feel right. The way they answered questions. The way the would slide mentions of crypto into conversations. Moving the conversation to another chat app too fast. But, I trust my instincts, and if it doesn't feel right, something is up. I called one of them on his obvious scam too, and he freaked out! lol!!! Started insulting me, etc. Whatever. Block, delete, moved on. :)

Thank you for interesting information. I would like to broaden a bit your perspective and talk about my country. In Poland (Central or Eastern Europe) there a lot of poor or disabled people who are searching for friends or love, therefore we share sometimes our hardships from the begining of the conversation to help each other in the time of the pandemic and energy crisis in Europe. It is not always a red flag in my culture. This attitude towards the success vary according to the culture. Being a good partner does not always go along with being rich or financially stable in Poland. Two people with small money can support each other and survive together. Moreover, looking for penpals should not be called as "less dangerous" than scamming for money because penpalling is not dangerous at all. Also, somebody from different country does not have to be necessarily a scammer. I have a penpal from a different continent for years and it works well. To sum up, the most valid point of your video is about not sending money to unknown online strangers.
@CoffeewithCarey Жыл бұрын
My point was that if you are looking for someone to date, not have a long distance relationship with, you are going to want to connect with someone you can meet. Working with all of my matchmaking clients there are some who have the ability to fly wherever I need a Match, but many people are looking for someone to have dinner with this weekend and if that person is a plane ride away that’s just not what they are looking for. And of course there’s absolutely nothing wrong with a penpal. But that is typically a friend.

I don't know the 'oil rig' scam, but the pattern, (I have lots of money but need help and front change to get it) is a variation of what we French people call the Nigerian Pirnce scam (because so many scammere were from Nigeria), and that one happens without the need of being attached to a romance scam. Listen to the lady, if anybody tells you 'please help me get my money, you'll get you advance back and tons more', flee, and if possible, signal the scammer to competent authorities.
