Technically what Sam said is that FTX did not take ownership of the funds, but that when the margin customers processed their withdrawals during the crash they withdrew the assets of the digital customers. What SBF is implying is that the hedge fund (margin traders) were in the red and were somehow quicker to withdraw than non margin traders.
