I’d like to think Jerry had the town built years ago for the soul purpose of having a feeding playground in the future. Knowing where the gas line was,being such a “handyman”. He is a four hundred year old vampire. Getting that old requires planning!

I also liked the comment when Jerry pulls out the silver bullet and says werewolves. Kinda wonder if that could insinuate the existence of them in this universe or merely a quip based on common lore/folk tales/stories.

Jerry cutting himself and letting her feed from his blood is a direct Dracula reference. Its what Dracula did to Mina to "bond" and begin her transition to vampire without her dying.

You know, I usually HATE the "kill the source, happy ending" trope but this movie handles it very well. Having to have a specially crafted weapon made from the bones of one saint blessed by another not only provides enough in universe justification for the cure, a great narrative frame, and a source for the legends were killing the master saves the victims, it also restricts it to a very rare resource that people have to go out of their way to look for.
@sethsword9680

Yeah I never understood that 😂. It's like if an animal gave you rabies and you kill that animal you still have rabies.
@Blasted2Oblivion
@Blasted2Oblivion Жыл бұрын
@@sethsword9680 That would be the disease version but a curse version would be more magical in operation. A vampire is cursed and spreads the curse to another person. Rather than being a newly infected body like a disease, the curse is connected to the source. Think of it like a river. It branches out into multiple streams but if you cut the flow off at the source, they all run dry because they are connected rather than just new bodies of water.
@sethsword9680
@sethsword9680 Жыл бұрын
@@Blasted2Oblivion wouldn't that curse be diluted the more bodies it spread to? How far would a curse be set back? Say a vampire bites you but wasn't the main source of the curse. Would it matter to only kill that vampire that cursed you initially or to kill the head vampire so to speak?

As for me, I always HATED the 'vampires created through magic' mythos. I couldn't stand the vampires from 'The Originals' so much that for my own personal satisfaction, I wrote my own stories where the REAL Vampire was an actual species. One of my favorite chapters is where my guy confronts Klaus and his oh-so-high-and-mighty 'I'm a hybrid' b.s. and my guy tells him that the power he has is nothing more than crumbs on the floor from the table he feasts at.....and then proceeds to show Klaus real fear, tells him to run, and that he'll be hunting him forever. As for the witches? Well, he sends them all to Valhalla or wherever. The only ones he tolerates are the werewolves, because they, like him, are an actual species and meant to be.

Maybe it's just because I was in full David Tennant fan boy mode after his time as the doctor, but his role as Peter Vincent is 100% what sold me on seeing this movie and it did not disappoint. I think the fact that Twilight was still kind of a big deal at this time helped the movie hit just right, because personally I had been craving this more deadly, predatory portrayal of the vampire something fierce. Colin really brought the ego and Charisma to play here, and at times he felt more like the villain of a true crime drama than a vampire...which is absolutely GREAT. I can 100% get behind the idea of modern vampires operating with serial killer type mindsets and tactics. It feels like a very natural evolution for the creature.

I too like the fact that the original Peter Vincent came around to help Charlie even though he was only an actor lol, and then come the sequel he believes & helps Charlie more readily than the first movie. Now knowing for a fact vampires do exist instead of bailing out of town he rises to the occasion, and saves the day with Charlie not once but twice 😁! It's too bad the original actor for Peter V. passed away years ago way before the 2011 version came to light. RIP to him & Anton 😔🙏.

I really appriciate the amount of love and work you put into your videos every single time. I am always looking forward to them and it is mostly a pleasant suprise what movie or franchise you introduce us to. Because I am quite a big vampire fan, I've watched many of the movies you have covered and recommended on your channel and through that I discovered some great new movies and series. Due to your channel I get remembered of these different and beautiful approaches of the mythology while you present everything perfectly easy and interesting for foreigners like myself. You also give your honest opinion on them and compare them to other franchises which probably takes a lot of time. However, I just wanna thank you for everything and hope that you will continue your awesome videos! Also I would be very interested in a video where you for example rank all or a selected list of the different vampire franchises you have seen related to their raw power, danger or just on which take you like the most. He played a familiar who was turned by the vampire.

They could be possessed... just like the Buffyverse Vampires. Where a demon takes over the body but still have access to all the memories of that person. Not sure if the human soul is then missing and a demon soul takes its place or just takes control while the human soul rides shotgun. When they die either their human soul gets control for a second or comes back to the body entirely to relive everything that vampire did... hence the tears and clarity at the end. A lot of guilt and grief is felt, essentially what Angel goes through every time he's re-ensouled (which if you watched BTVS and Angel it happens a lot).

I didnt like this movie when it came out, I kinda hated it actually because I love the original so much. Then it slowed regained me after a few watches. Today, I think this is a good example of how a remake should work and focus. Respecting the key elements, paying the homage, but at the same time, finding it own identity. For that, the movie did a good job with these things, specially, bringing back the amazing Cris Sarandon. Certainly added a few things to the lore, giving a whole new vibe to Peter Vincent and JD. Colin really gave his own take on the seductive vampire. Nothing extraordinary, but its a good movie.

I love how they sometimes use the original to their advantage, like when they run from the house only for the girl to burst into ash after only a few hours after the bite

I actually did enjoy this movie when it came out, seeing it as an "alternate universe" version of the 1985 classic. I was curious to see what the could have done with the lackluster 1988 follow up; they could have gotten someone like Dania Ramirez to play Regine, seeking out vengeance for her brother's death, actually having her be both seductive, and more of a threat than the original. Charlie could've been a new writer on Peter's show, and she come sin as the new producer. Ahhh, to dream.....

This movie was surprisingly good!! I remember me and my date ended up watching this because there wasn’t really anything else playing for the late night showing. Going into the movie I haven’t even watched the trailer I just suggest it because it had Collin Farrell and Anton Yelchin (may he rest in peace) but long story short I really enjoyed it I felt that it had a great mix of comedy and horror.

I think the eating of the apple is more intended to identify the blasphemous existence of the vampires, they willingly "eat of the fruit". As in they are confidently creatures of sin.

I prefer the layout of this version of fright night more than the original. but both are great on their own. near dark is a great 80s vampire film and unusual layout . has a cult following if you ever get the chance check it out.

I have a couple of cool but probably very common suggestions you've gotten. The vampires in Hellsing Ultimate, and the vampires in Vampire Hunter D. They're both very cool and interesting though different. The power scalings on these vampires jump way higher than what you usually cover, as tends to happen in animated shows. But both Hellsing Ultimate and Vampire Hunter D are absolute classics. With Vampire Hunter D I am referring to he movie so that might be an easy one if you don't want to invest and risk the time and effort required for Hellsing Ultimate. It is not a long show but but theres some abilities to go over in that show. But I'm sure you've been told about these many times in the past but have chosen to not cover them already. I say give Vampire Hunter D a chance. It's not as anime as something like Tokyo Ghoul since this is classic stuff.

I think the fruit primarily the APPLE is a 2 fold reference. Usually in media villians are always eating an apple at some point. 2ndary its a biblical reference since most people believe the fruit of eden was an apple thus eating forbidden knowledge and power that is vampirism. The other biblical reference is how judas escariot became the first vampire in other media.

Low key, Ed could have been the Van Helsing of the show, he had the courage, and wisdom to recognize and other worldly threat and armed himself with the tools to hunt the vampire down, unlike Van Helsing sadly he didn't have a entourage of warriors, ala Jonathan Harker and the suitors/widowed husband of Lucy whatever her name wasto aid and support him.

This movie really is great, one of the few great remakes I can watch back to back with the original and not feel bored. It has just enough changes to feel different but follows the original story beats enough to feel like the writers had a passion for the original.

Personally, for Vamps like this, I dont think that its the object itself that has power, so much as the faith behind it. A weaker vampire would be pushed back because for their own 'faith', but someone from another religion could force a vampire back with a symbol from their own faith, so long as they have enough faith in it.

Maybe I missed it, but have you really not covered the best vampire movie ever produced? Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who went on to become the first woman to win the Oscar for best director. Starring both Bishop and Hudson from Aliens, as well as Jack Deth from Trancers. "Near Dark." Interesting and original lore/vamp rules too. You need to do this one. Also, How many films have had a 💯 year anniversary? "Nosferatu" has. And if doing a silent film is too weird or difficult, there was the remake in '79 starring Klaus Kinski.

The rest of that line (cuz as you can see it goes to the end of the page not just the indents) I believe is 3 words. Being "victim doesn't need". Which would make more sense with what happens in the movie
