When my youngest daughter was 14 or 15 she was into vampires and such. I put this movie on one night and she was enthralled. About 20 minutes in she looked at me and exclaimed "How have I not seen this before?". A few days later she was in school and messaged me asking the name of it because she told a few of her friends and they all wanted to watch it. Me showing my daughter this movie turned no less than a dozen kids onto it and I think that's a great thing.

I love when vampirism is realistically depicted in fiction as a disease rather than just a supernatural curse, being "Ultraviolet" and other works like "Let the Right One In" great examples of vampirism being portrayed as a disturbing virus that most people don't want to get infected with.

Not as much as the vampires in STRAIN . I watched the entire series because of this channel. And the infection process is disgusting. Its because of a single worm and once inside multiplies in the body by the millions. Then your body parts start falling off like your hair … genitalia… ears …nose …you no longer have individual thought process. If that was real and I got infected with a worm 🪱 the second I get infected put a pillow over my face and end it for me!!!!!! 🤢 🤮

I love that you love the science fiction twist on the vampirism but in my opinion I’m kind of sick of the virus version of being a vampire, vampires are Yknow not real. There’s reason to try and rationalize them, I appreciate when stories don’t try and rationalize it with shit that doesn’t make any sense any way and just say yeah no it’s like a demon or a supernatural creature thing I have no clue.

0:28 Glad to see that there are still people who remember novelizations. It is fascinating to see the plot of a famous movie adapted into a book format, thus giving us an expanded (and even modified) version of the story. Another interesting novelization of a vampire movie is Coppola's "Dracula", written by Fred Saberhagen.
@krishanuA
@krishanuA 11 ай бұрын
Saberhagen did a stupendous job of adapting the original book. As you pointed out so correctly. It was brilliant, tight and memorable. I honestly believe that script will never be bettered-- if somebody is trying to base a movie on the original work. How do you rate the script for "Salem's Lot"? If you've seen the 1979 TV movie..
@OptimusNero
@OptimusNero 11 ай бұрын
@@krishanuA I like the 1979 miniseries, but I have to admit that the pacing of its first half is a mess, mainly because the plot of the real estate agent banging the married secretary is so unnecessarily long and serves no purpose in the end. You literally wouldn't miss anything if someone completely cut out that story arc. The 2004 adaptation has a much more balanced pacing, tbh
@krishanuA
@krishanuA 11 ай бұрын
@@OptimusNero Agreed on both points. But the '79 version was closer to the book. Of course that does not make it a superior piece of filmmaking.
@OptimusNero
@OptimusNero 11 ай бұрын
@@krishanuA I think both miniseries follow the book pretty faithfully, but in quite different ways. On the one hand, the 1979 miniseries is set in the same era and the characters (despite some of the book being mixed into one here and having very different fates) are pretty accurately portrayed, but the 2004 remake (despite having a completely invented opening and epilogue and being set in the present) includes many more characters and plots from the book and gives Kurt Barlow a much more faithful look and personality. Still, I highly praise the 2004 remake for the iconic "Whoever feeds you is your God" line, which isn't even in King's book.

One of my favorite movies in general even if the cgi doesn't hold up well to modern standards. It's not a masterpiece in any one area but has some of the best vampire virus ideas and technology in a scifi setting that is both realistic and fantastic. The vampire virus that is essentially a super-soldier virus with the caveat that you only get ~10 years to live is pretty fantastic. Making it super-contagious was a terrible idea and different stories could be told well in this setting or with the idea. My favorite piece of technology was both the digitally changing clothes and the bracelets that can store massive amounts material in digital form. I don't know of another show that has essentially a wearable replicator although they exist in video games.

I went through most of your videos already and I don't recall you covering it, though it's possible I missed it. Nobody has ever really done a deep dive into Rayne and her story on here. Love the idea of underworld and ultraviolet being somewhat connected. Just because of the era and he style i always assumed they were inspired by each other (underworld movies kept on going and i think they took some of the style from Ultraviolet) Heck even Aeon flux gave me that vibe of "being in the same world"/ While i know its probably not the case, its still fun to come up with stories of how mankind after being the victims of vampires and lycans for such a long time, they ended up finding a way to "wipe" the vampires by creating the virus that attacked blood. Then they evolved the Virus to try and create better humans, but it backfires, creating the vampires all over again. Sorry bad english, i dont speak english very well sorry

I loved this movie. It had such cool technology and worldbuilding. The dimensional compression was basically how they explained people having a bag of holding in some distant future. I would have loved to see a sequel in which "the cure" just returned the virus to an earlier stage of evolution and made the hemophages into true vampires with extended life and a vastly greater dependence on the consumption of blood. When I rewatched it years later, I realized that the video game, Mirror's Edge, had a very similar aesthetic to this film. The world needs better production values on vampire sci-fi horror films.

I really love Ultraviolet. I have the movie on DVD and also the book. Milla Jovovich is one of my favorite actress and Voilet is just so sexy. It's a shame that the hemophages don't drink blood like the vampires in Underworld. It would be so sexy to see Voilet jumping at someones throat only to drink his or her blood. Also it would be very interesting to see what would happen when Voilet and Selene meet each other. Would they fight each other? Or would they get along with each other? They are both very strong female leads after all.

They probably didn’t use the cure because most of the hemophages were about to die out anyways. So they thought they could just let them die. But then they realized they wouldn’t have no one to keep people in fear and thus…..

This is one of my favorite older (now) vampire movies, and an underrated gem like I feel Aeon Flux was. Honestly, I'll say this though: When a movie has Milla Jovovich in the credits, it's most likely not going to be the best. I love Milla, don't get me wrong but this should have gotten a sequel. Monster Hunter should have been ten times cooler, hell even Resident Evil should have called it quits at the third movie because thats where the good old R.E. movies ended. I had no desire to watch the new Hellboy as well, but not for Milla being in it. It was because it was a sequel to Golden Army (apparently) but I've heard or seen no mention from that movie about the fact hes supposed to have twin children now. And no Liz in general are what made me say hell to it lol

I saw the trailers for the new Hellboy, that was enough. The actor is a good actor, but his face is too long for a decent Hellboy. He looked a guy who dropped 100 pounds, especially around his face. If it comes to cable, I might watch it, maybe. I know it was hated by almost everyone.
