I really love this film because of its take on the vampires being the in charge and the humans living on the fringe of society. I love when he tricks the certain character into drinking his blood to cure them and it all goes crazy from there. The fight scene is a crazy piece of cinematography the way it plays out is crazy but very well done. If they did a 2nd movie it would probably be vampires being afraid to bite humans because they wouldn't know who's a walking cure or not but would be really interesting.
@itsmainelyyou5541 Жыл бұрын
Realistically, it would be vampires rounding up the 'cured' and setting up blood farms filled with forcibly cured now that they have a way to generate blood indefinitely. Capitalism, baby!

If you like the vampire majority story, you should look into The Hunt trilogy by Andrew Fukuda. All remaining humans left on earth are dispersed throughout a vampire ruled populace, hiding and pretending to be one of them, and even the slightest bit of human blood would lead to a uncontrollable feeding frenzy.
@crimsonffire Жыл бұрын
@abcdefbcdefg8352 thanks I'll have to look into that. I liked the originals but wasn't big into vampire diaries, the writer of both had a great series of books called night world 13 books in total covered vampires and really liked the hole story behind the vampire lore in that series. I loved this movie because it was the only one that approached vampirism at it would likely happen in the real world. Imagine if we found out vampires were real, and you could have eternal youth and never get sick. Most people would jump at that opportunity, but if too many people sign up to be vampires then what do they all feed on? It's the most obvious question to ask, but most vampire movies ignore it.

Why didn’t the vampires immediately start creating a consensual blood farm with the humans so that they would never run out? Medically receiving blood to ensure that the humans don’t die off. If I was a vampire this is what I would do. And then afterwards, when I have a steady supply of human blood indefinitely, I would start working on a blood substitute. With a steady supply, the amount of time for me to make a substitute becomes unlimited.
@Azazantei Жыл бұрын
You see..... That's a Logical reasoning, but looking back at History, there's so many times that we do shit on a Impulse and didn't think of repercussions. Hell even if that law was passed and Consensual Blood Farm existed, chances are there's still gonna be a Vampire hunting for Human for some sort of Prestige or Trophy. So like sure it will double the life's expectancy of Human but at some point it will run out either way.

You see, nature has a delicate balance between Predators and Prey. Let's say that for every 12 deer, there is three wolves there to keep the Prey population in check. An odd number difference between them, but that is how nature is designed. If there is a population boom of Prey animals of say 50 deer in any given area, there would be a sudden Predator boom of up to maybe 20 to even 30 wolves in that same area to help balance out the Prey. Once the total number of Prey animals goes back down, the Predators begin to die off due to a lack of prey and to fighting against other wolf packs to a more manageable level. What happened here was that more or less half the human population chose to become vampires, where instead of a 3 to 1 prey to predator balance, there is now a 1 to 1 Human to Vampire balance. A very deadly circumstance for both sides as it is now an all out brawl on both sides over Human blood, where humans are at a constant war for survival against their undead oppressors while the Vampires now have to fight among each other for their next pint of blood. Rationality is the first thing to go once hunger and desperation sets in
@yanyanzhang5813 Жыл бұрын
@@electroeel148 it really isn’t. You cannot apply interspecies consumption within two intelligent species of the same trophic level when both species are intelligent. There is no possible way to quantify that because there hasn’t been significant data of said circumstance.

I think the girl at the start was JUST a vampire not the first. She may have lived a life that caused her to age in years, but not physically, as she also mentioned within her suicide note. The virus I believe was up to interpretation as to the actual cause of spreading, however when they realized the benefits of the vampire virus is when they sort of said "Hey......that's pretty good." and went about turning from humans to vampires.

It's way too underrated maybe because the movie pacing seems slow for a vampire movie and it's not flashy and stylish like the underworld franchise... It's actually more realistic and there's a lot more than just people turning into vampire... Always love this type of movie with a lore and mystery behind it.... The same goes for a horror movie for eg: Exorcism of Emily Rose.. was also underrated..Yes it was a horror movie, an exorcism, paranormals with real life court room case actions... made the movie so interesting... About blood and vampires. In the book i'm planning to write, vampires can sustain on animal blood too. The animals they mostly feed from are cows and pigs. The blood of humans simply just tastes better. Not to mention that vampirism will not change the personality or behavior of the host. So in my book, if a vampire becomes a bloodthirsty murderer, their behavior cannot be blamed on hunger.

This is such a good movie! This is easily one of my favorites because, as you mentioned, it flips the script on monster movies. The monsters are the dominant species, and the few humans have to live in secrecy. Such a neat concept that I can't believe took so long to come out, and really only done once. The closest other movie I can think of is the Priest, where we're at war with an army of vampires. If there are any other movies like this, can someone let me know? Special effects were good, nothing too crazy, just enough to make the film work without going over the top. Well, in Underworld vampirism started after Alexander Corvinus was made immortal thanks to an unknown virus, then his son Marcus was bitten by a bat which made him a vampire. William was the one bitten by a wolf with rabies, hence why he went insane and Marcus didn't. It is rare for bats to bite humans, but they do, and they don't have to have rabies to bite someone. Same goes for wolves of course, but unfortunately for William, his wolf did have rabies. I don't think the little girl in the beginning of the movie was the one who started it though. I think it was just a scene they wanted to start with. And since Vampires don't age or grow older since their turning, being stuck in stasis never getting any bigger would drive any kid crazy. I think the person who wrote Daybreakers was inspired partly by Anne Rice's novels on Lestat. In that one, all vampires cease to age or grow from the moment of their turning, and it was true of Claudia, Lestat & Louis' latest newborn, an 8 year old girl who was stuck at that age forever. And yeah, for the most part, it drove Claudia mad, especially when she saw an adult woman bathing and said "I want to be her" but Lestat & Louis knowing she will never get any older. In a world populated mostly by vampires, I think that would suck. Cause eventually food is gonna run out, and the options then are Suicide or Lose yourself forever as you become a literal monster. I think most would take the former rather than become a monster who has lost all sense of who they were, cause at that point you're not much different from a Ghoul/Zombie.

I'm always interested in the lore, history and rules of such things, how does it work and how did it get to that point? how does it differ from other similar settings? Is it logical and how much funky stuff is mixed into it? If an universe dosen't have a well crafted and contained setting then there's nothing tangible to get hooked on. But I personally think you're right, the big mistake of this vampire society made was that they outpaced their food/medicin source, had it been more "small group of elites keeping vampirism their exclusive thing to be immortal, and is ensured blood due to plenty of supply from blood banks". Sure you could say "evil cabal of elites keeping immortality for themselves" but it would make more sense than making too many mouths and too little food.

Making them invisible to their reflections comes off as silly , but apart from that- cool movie
