Yea you have to pay attention, some of the so-called surplus stores I've been in lately carry a bunch of the knockoff stuff to meet demand and you have to pay attention, the last couple of those I picked up were the cheap ones for less than 50cents each for my backpack I leave at the house and a travel duffel I carry on a plane to and from work. I tested one and it was nearly dull so I sharpened it with a rattail, used to hate showing up to a boat and finding out the can opener went missing or broke. Lately as the boats I work on have gotten bigger, and so has the galley equip but I still like to have my fallbacks.

I have a few P-51s marked "US SHELBY CO.". They work pretty good when new, but the hooks that hold the underside of the can lip wear away.

I prefer the P-51 over the 38, but have used both in the past. I now use my Victorinox knife can opener more than anything just for the fact that my Super Tinker knife is always in my pocket. Thanks Scot tfor the video

Man, you summed it up perfectly when you said they can't make a clone of anything anymore. The quality per unit of technological advancement is so bad on almost everything today

I went to use the Colghlan's one since that my can opener broke today. They didn't work that well. I would suggest people to buy a better one. I am glad that I keep my camp gear not too far but it was a pain in the ass to use them.

yeah they work but not very well lol

Great video. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that there are crummy knockoffs, but I am. "The greatest invention you've never heard of..." the p-38.

I bought cheap chinese clone from ebay maybe 10 years ago. Price was about 1 euro mailed to europe. It doesn't work. You have to have some talents to make not working can opener...

A P38 (Lightning) or a P-51 (Mustang) would open a can pretty quickly. 20mm + 4x .50 calibre, and 6x .50 calibre machineguns respectively. I use my Opinel No.7 to open cans, it's a high stakes game.

@@Gungeek I've used a pocket knife to open cans before works just as good as any can opener

so your point is? a sharp knife works better than a dull mismanufactured can opener.... nevermind.

So get the original U.S. military one or the British military one. They’re great. But sorry to say….the Canadian one is crap. Probably not even made in Canada, probably made in China. Victorinox Swiss Army Knife can opener works great too.
