Thank you for posting this video and giving details about how to identify when overgeneralization is being used. I'm working on an essay and trying to brainstorm the answers to the core questions, but wasn't getting very far because I didn't have that great of an understanding about this distortion type. I wish I'd found your video much sooner. You give such a good explanation.

Hello Dr. Rami, how does one know that a thought is a "distortion" In my case, I thought it was a cognitive distortion but it ended up to be true. To give you another example. I had a thought that I will lose my job, I thought this was fortune telling (according Cognitive Behavioral Thearapy). But it ended up losing my job. I wish I had taken that thought seriously and started looking for an alternative employment. I have many cases like that. So the question how does one know objectively that the thought is true....I think the very statement that "there are no absolutes" is illogical and self contradictory.

Hi Rami - overgeneralization in thinking styles can lead to many difficulties right? What is your best advice or number one tip on how to cope with this? Do you still see patients in private practice in Canada? I am a Canadian also!
