I am curious how much difference in fatigue there is in coils. I tightened my EXT about 5 times so far I think. I am not complaining just curious about fatigue. But probably a difficult subject. Used mine since late 2019 I think.

Great info here. Any thoughts about how the cane creek valt springs compare to the Ohlins and fox?
@fpeter01 Жыл бұрын
The problem is with this comparison that springs can have 10% (up to 20%) deviation. So a 400 spring can be anywhere between 360 and 440 (or between 320 and 480 in more extreme scenario). And every spring cost you about 60-100$, which is a lot of money for experimentating. And if you buy 3 pc. 400 spring, you might end up with 350-400-450 springs. Sprindex has an adjustable rate, but it doesn't help you much, because the deviation is still there. They should test every spring and label them individually. Yeah, it sucks, but those factory numbers are really misleading.

Interesting video. Can easily rack up the dollars on the hunt for the best set up! Seen your other video regarding the Ohlins shock. Currently trialing one myself. I have found satisfactory settings for good descending and grip, but can feel what seems to be so much more drag and loss of speed in comparison to my dhx2. Just seeing if you noticed anything similar yourself or if you had any words of wisdom? Cheers, Mas.

Yeah I believe thats partly the rebound tune creating a soggy platform to push against, run it fast enough to eliminate it and it tops out and feels uncontrolled out back. Could be partly a soft bladder pressure from the factory demanding heavy compression settings

would love to hear your option about Canes Creek progressive spring
@mtbtelly55222 жыл бұрын
I haven’t tried a prog spring yet, would have been a perfect application on my Patrol. No good on the slash as the frame is already more progressive than optimal for a coil, but many bikes can benefit from it

I’ve seen a couple of them break the adjuster bit, but haven’t used one at my spring rate yet. The problem is also the accuracy of their numbers vs other springs claimed numbers. A sprindex can get you to a specific ride height and feel, so lets say sprindex puts you at 425, so you order a 425 sls fox to lighten the bike up and you’re way too soft on the spring. So the saga continues. On the other hand you can just stick with the sprindex and deal with the extra weight. Its certainly a good idea but I’d like to see it lighter, and a little more reliable.

Thanks you so much for your insights @mtbtelly5522, I've been following your channel since I bought a Marin Alpine Trail E2. I feel the foxshox that came with it is a bit too soft for me (350lb/in 2.8) , but I'm not too sure! I saw a used Ohlins 365lb near me, do you think that would fit the Fox DHX? Cheers
@mtbtelly5522 Жыл бұрын
Hey mate, yep it will fit no probs. Its a slightly larger diameter 36.5mm but it works fine and still engages the top and bottom collars well. The Rockshox spring will work at 38mm internal diameter but its not a lot of surface contact on the collars
@mtbtelly5522 Жыл бұрын
Have you added much preload to the 350?
@RidesWithJake Жыл бұрын
@@mtbtelly5522 Thanks mate, I'm partly biased with Ohlins or Rockshox as I want to inject a bit more color to the otherwise colorless Marin Alpine Trail E2 😂 I'm currently running 4 full turns on the preload and I feel that it's a bit too harsh. To be honest I just want to try the next coil rate.
@mtbtelly5522 Жыл бұрын
@@RidesWithJake yeah thats way too much preload. 365 will still feel too soft if 4 turns is where you ended up. How much do you weigh?

@@mtb_mattn best to use reducers on each end of the spring to get max surface area, but its ok without them

This is a great rundown and interesting comparison. Hey did you ever try a coil on the Banshee Phantom? Any recommendations there? I'm considering a CCDB IL 400lb... I'm exactly 75kg... XL frame... I think I can get away with the 400 and not bottom out too much

Good question, I’m not too sure how a coil would work on that bike. I only rode it with the dpx2 it came with. I’d like to know if it does work well. There is the option of a dual rate or progressive coil if a standard coil is too linear
@ostankovalex11762 жыл бұрын
Hey, got a remedy 8 2018 bike with SD Ultimate Coil 62.5 stroke on my bike with a progressive spring was thinking about trying out some air should I consider dpx2 performance or SP ultimate air shock is better? do you think 230x60 is ok? as coil eats up some travel due to bottom out bumper anyway Tx in advance

Bit of a coil question, The Bomber has finally come avail in my metric size, would it work well with a prog spring for my frame rate of 13% average progression rate / leverage ratio 2.75? Or is a air shock better and did you get a specific tune for the CR when you had your patrol or did you just get a stock shock? Cheers mate.
@mtbtelly55222 жыл бұрын
A prog spring might be perfect for that bike, a standard spring will have you a little high in the ride height for enough support but the prog might work really well
