Thanks for this Steve I use the 600 and find the background threshold (volume 5 or 6) very reassuring. It lets me know my machine is picking up targets (albeit ones I don’t want) without ‘grunting’ at me all the time. When it becomes very active the first thing I now do is slow my swing rate right down and that has proved very successful in recent days. I kind of found this feature ‘by accident’ and, I agree, it can indicate it might be worth making small adjustments to the iron bias & sensitivity for that particualr location. I tend to keep my recovery speed maxed out (3 on the 600) in any case. 👍🏻🙌🏻

Great video on threshold. I use it to listen for deep targets

My manticore hits deep with the threshold on at yhe beach. I dont know how else to discribe it. Its awesome

I started with a threshold when I had my White's 6000 Di Pro and tried using that on my newer Minelab Xterra Pro but come to find I don't really need it and it was a distraction to my channel listeners. So I no longer use one, in fact I like to increase my Iron volume which is reached by long pressing on the volume button which I think the 800 does as well. I usually run 20 E1. Looking forward to using it in Gold mode someday! I have subscribed to or channel and hope you can do the same as I have added a Equinox 900 to my stable : )

Interesting. I like to hear it (but only just - as a background hum), but can understand why others don’t like it at all. It’s definitely a personal preference thing. Thanks for the Sub, and will do the same. Good luck mate!

Great and informative video. 👍 I always run with threshold same as you, but wasn't aware of 2 types. Will definitely try increasing sensitivity and recovery speed together, and see if it helps me. Would doing this work on damp/wet sand where very little trash, but potentially gold targets(rings or chains perhaps?). Really enjoy and learn a lot from your tutorials 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟. Phil-England.

If you’re hunting wet sand and the targets are few and far between, I’d actually reduce recovery speed, slow my swing, and increase sensitivity as much as possible. You can still use threshold level of 4-6 to help hear the blanking of discriminated targets, so you know if you hit a target heavy area, and then adjust recovery speed to suit. Good luck out there, and thanks for your comments Phil!

@@coilsandcoinsdetectingSo if there is alot of trash targets, you would increase recovery speed... and decrease sensitivity? I thought threshold gained depth? Also... as a newbie wanting to get as deep as I can, I was thinking.. would it be possible to turn up sensitivity and threshold and turn the volume right down or onto vibration and then read the target ID's. Is this even a possibility and what would be the pro's and cons. Cheers!👍 will like and subscribe now..

So i just finished your video... That ground was awful :) I'd be so confused! So my question is, ifyou used threshold to gage ground/trashy levels and then set your detector sensitivity and swing speed/recovery speed, could you not then just set your iron volume right down... (I have another detector aswell as a minelab) I'm not to keen on the constant noise of threshold but if I was gaining alot... either depth or target detection then I would bare through but I'm just thinking alot on ways I can set up detector and see if ways to get around the noise.

Interesting idea! When I used the Nox800 I’d have threshold set to about 6, and use it as an aide when trying to find “busy” ground with high target density, usually for one house sites in the bush etc. Now that I use the manticore, I must admit that I don’t use threshold at all. In my experience threshold didn’t really get me any increased depth, although at the beach it could sometimes help me find targets that weee right on the edges of the detectors range. Let me know how your experiments go! Happy hunting!

sorry but that makes no sense at all (5 mins and blanking). Just have no continuous hum and don't blank and then listen for when the machine finds something.

Threshold is an alternative to hearing iron tones - it’s just a matter of personal preference really. Happy hunting!

@@coilsandcoinsdetectingI thought you mentioned that threshold can pick out a deeper target and maybe not read up a target ID. I'm so confused what threshold is actually designed to do... like what was it designed for specifically.
