JD, I got to tell you that you are bring a family peace. Here is the story... I watched one of your videos a while back and you found a dog tag. You said you would be sending the dog tag back to the owners because their dog could have died, or that could mean something to that family. Well I went metal detecting the next day and what do you know, I found a dog tag... I remembered what you said and then I called the owners (at this time their dog was alive) and I told them I found it. They gratefully took it back. Months go by and it's Christmas and I got a letter from their family. They said their dog had died later that month of cancer. They said how they are so had a lot of great memories with her, and they would be remembering her through that dog tag, they thought they had lost forever... I just wanted to say thanks to you because you do make a difference in people's lives even if you don't know it. So thank you for inspiring.

I remember vividly the time I spent about three hours detecting under the bleachers of a heavenly used stadium one day in the late 80's. By the time I got home I could hardly push in the clutch on my 79 step van. I had pulled all the muscles in my lower back and was in agony for the next two weeks. Even today as I pass or see bleachers on TV, I think back to that time and give out a grunt and stretch. My finds were no where near worth the pain of that hunt. I'm glad you fared far better then I did in your hunt. Happy 2017 , JD

Strangely in Arizona, I found a World War 1 dog tag, with a WW1 Signal Corps collar pin right next to it. It was in the middle of no where as well. Pretty sweet find.

The History Channel should take that snooze-fest Oak Island off the air and replace it with your show, which is much more interesting and educational, in my opinion.

lol. Maybe someday there will be a show that fits me. I've been contacted by casters by national geographic before about a show they were doing on the Beale Ciphers. But I didn't pursue it.

Get yourself a sniper coil for those trashy areas, and take your time. The small coil is the best addition to your detecting arsenal next to a good pin pointer.

I found a womans wedding ring under bleachers,well actually they removed the bleachers to replace them. I found the ring laying on top of the cement pad they were on.That was after spending a couple hours swinging . As long as its plastic you should be able to find coins. I hate trashy areas anyways. Dont forget to turn in all your clad coins into silver. Its $18 a try ounce. Thats a good investment and takes up less room than a big jar of crusty coins.In a few years,those silver rounds will go up in value,better than saving jars full of bad coins.

Always check bleachers I was once at a football game and I was bored so I went under the bleachers. I found a little over 2$ just with my eyes. Now that's not a lot of money but imagine that in pennies,nickels, dimes, and quarters

JD I really like your channel.But do you have any tricks for treasure hunting?
@scottfirman8 жыл бұрын
progamer Invest in a good metal detector. Avoid the cheap department store detectors. Look to see what dealers are in your area. Depending on where you plan on hunting,water or just normal relic hunting. I like the kind that you can remove the box from the wand or handle. That way you can actually hunt in a lake or pond and you can put the box over your shoulder. Always buy one that has an open coil,never buy one with a solid coil. If you do hunt in shallow water,that coil will float,plus you can pinpoint better with an open coil. You dont need a detector with lots of bells and whistles. Its nice to have a meter or guage that tells you depth but as far as indicating gold or nickles,you will find most detectors will also find junk pull tabs and bottle tops in that area too. get a good digging tool and learn how to dig without striking the coin. I use a large phillips screw driver where I live. I dont believe in using a shovel because I have ruined too many coins that way,and so has JD. Do lots of research before going out hunting. I look for old parks,play grounds,old roadside parks,and old fishing spots,any place where people have been going for years. You can usually do the lawn areas bewern side walks and the road,just check first. In IOWA,you cannot metal detect most parks and stuff. I hit schools and places where I got permission to hunt when I went there. Check your local and county laws. Never ever detect national parks,they can take your detector and your car.
@aliasfred8 жыл бұрын
Take an old sock, fill it with sand and wrap it, or tie it near a "solid" coil. It will help hold that coil down in the water. I've been hunting since 1960 and it has always worked for me.

If the trash across the field is under a smaller or less nice set of bleachers, then would be as I am sure you know, the opposing team. It never failed when my sons were in marching band the opposing team fans trashed things the most! Especially rival teams!!!!

instead of using that small "pig sticker" knife. get yourself a stout heavy duty long shaft slotted screwdriver for busting up the dirt in the bottom of the hole. I have been using mine so long that the tip is well rounded. Just file the sharp edges down.

Do you have to get permissions to detect a school?
@JDsVarietyChannel8 жыл бұрын
Depends on the city. They all have different laws regarding metal detecting. However, most small towns don't have any laws, so you just have to use common sense. Fill all your holes properly and leave everything as you found it, don't hunt any well manicured areas, never detect around a school during operating hours, etc....And make sure the school is public, and you would need special permission to hunt around a private school.
@tylerputnam38518 жыл бұрын
JD's Variety Channel ok thanks for the info, the area I'm looking at is where an old high school was. They still have the old wooden bleachers where the stadium was. I'm in a small town in north ga. I'll check and see if there are any laws.

It's nice when you find money. I found £260 in a clear envelope where you pump your tires up in the petrol station and about 4 months back I found a wallet out side the off licence I was in. I was in there 2 minutes and I would have seen it entering the shop so someone in front of me in the que dropped it. I looked for the unlucky chap but there was no one around. There was 250 cash that I guiltily kept as well as a contact less cash card that I snapped up cause the geeza had enough bad luck without his account being raped. It's carma for when I lost my wallet with 40 cash and my cash card with the pin written on a tiny bit of paper. Who ever found it withdrew 260 as you can only take 300 cash a day out.
