ETH is not an altcoin. Everything is built on ethereum which means it will remain unchallenged. Every hurdle ethereum has overcome would also have to be met and surpassed. The others like SOL(fast and cheap because it's not used like ETH) and EOS are numerous. They are only in the assembly stage, not sufficiently readied for even minor headwinds.
