I'm always bewildered when these guys pull out words like "hysterical" or "shrill" on women who are just behaving the exact same way as their male counterparts. To me, "hysterical" has a very specific definition: a person (of either gender) who is visibly freaking out - shaking, screaming, hyperventilating, that sort of thing. Nothing about Kamala Harris's behavior was even close to that. Saying she was hysterical is not only demeaning but completely nonsensical. I was also shocked by people saying Hillary was "shrill" back during the election. I mean, I'm not a huge fan of Hillary, but she has a perfectly normal voice. And of course, the really ironic thing is that the people who said that were all generally supporters of Trump, who yells ALL THE FREAKING TIME (and quite obnoxiously, too).
@emiliemanes53924 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Hillary could not have been calmer during the election. Republicans called her shrill and too emotional for the office of the president. But Trump yells and whines 24/7 and is extremely obnoxious. But that's okay to Republicans? Well, Trump is male. So I guess that makes it okay. Women must be tough, but not bitchy. Caring, but not soft. Outspoken, but not too much. It's all BS.

Funny thing is, Senator Harris was interrupted by John McCain, who isn't even a member of the Intelligence Committee per se. Rather, he's the chairman of the Armed Services Committee and acts as a sort of honorary guest in meetings of the IC. Ideally, he shouldn't even speak, and instead should send questions a priori for the consideration of other members. McCain is a moderating force among Republicans, but his performance in the meetings of that committee has been pretty underwhelming.

Slightly off topic, still, Kate McKinnon as Sessions on SNL is beyond hilarious, priceless. Sen. Harris was not, "hysterical,". She was insistent. Sessions was stonewalling and rather hostile.

Jeff Sessions is a graduate of the University of Alabama Law School. He was an assistant US attorney for 6 years and a US attorney for 12. He was a US Senator for 20 years. How come he can't deal with the speed of questioning by Kamala Harris?

singtweetypie You have no idea how hard it is to deal with microagressions, EVERY DAY because of your gender AND the color of your skin. There is no reprieve. NOTHING you have experienced can compare.
@2particlesinapodcast4427 жыл бұрын
Traci Lewis I really liked ur first comment, and then I saw the second. Please do not assume a woman of "white" color could never have experienced microaggressions EVERY DAY bc I can assure u, we all have. Making an argument about gender AND race being the prerequisite for any abuse or discrimination is part of the problem. Being a woman AND blonde has caused me much grief in the workplace and I respect all people but please acknowledge you're not the only one who can comment on this. At some point, we all need to look outward and be willing to listen to others, then maybe we would realize what makes us stronger is to unite on the same cause, not squabble over who has it worse.
@singtweetypie7 жыл бұрын
Well we can thank all the strong women that have become before us that have made it possible for women like Kamala Harris to break through the barrier to hold meaningful positions where they can make a difference. Look at how far we've come. Less than 100 years ago - women weren't even able to vote! We have to resist any discrimination, set the right example, support our women and their rights - and support the men who respect and support us. I can tell you that in this respect, my daughter's have a far easier time of it than I ever did, and I had a far easier time than my mother did. We are making progress.
@singtweetypie7 жыл бұрын
Crystal, as a brunette - I can verify what you are saying. For some odd reason, men thought nothing of making 'blonde' jokes to me in business settings. I can concur that fair haired women were taken less seriously in the business environment I worked in. I know women that actually changed their hair colour as a result of this 'pre-conceived' notion that blondes were less intelligent - so that they would look more studious. So many women now talk about the kind of discrimination they faced - but we didn't years ago. One of my male business friends who I worked with recently said to me - out of the blue 'How did you manage to deal with all the crap and work in that environment ?' My answer was that I just continued to do the best I could do and ignored their ignorance - or it would have made me crazy.
