The love is still there, and you can see that in their eyes when they look at each other. I would bet that, at home, she purposefully teases him playfully with quips to help him keep his wits sharp, because it takes practice to stay as good with the one liner come-backs as Steven is. They are SO CUTE together! It is so lovely to have two such nice people being an example of a good marriage in this day and age when people seem to forget how to find the wonderful in each other.

As much as I loved David Letterman and Johnny Carson, I appreciate how Stephen Colbert is so much more evolved with women--his wife and his female guests. He's so respectful of women, so in love with his wife, and so supportive of so-called "women's issues." Letterman and Carson often treated women as props and, of course, you had to be young, hot, and sexy to get booked.

No truer insight right there...esp with Carson. One could say thats why Carson had so many wives...while Stephen found his love and actually stayed with her. Carson would have had the power to push the women's lib movement at the time and didn't as well. And Letterman....well, he was single for how long and we never get to see her in public? I'm from where Letterman attended college and lived...and I love him...but there's a reason why he was single for so long and I always wondered why. Anyway, great point! Love Stephen and Evie!

I am gen z and very much do not like David letterman and his cohorts based on my exposure to them. I also don’t appreciate that they helped perpetuate a culture that I had to grow up in. But, I understand that people loved them for reasonable reasons. And it warms my heart to see that someone like you can see the failings of people like letterman, and the subsequent benefits of having people like Colbert lead our late night discussions this decade. No one is perfect, and nostalgia doesn’t have to be moralized. We can appreciate a variety of things, and I’m glad that you do.

(PS I’ve been watching old daily show with Jon Stewart clips this past year. I didn’t need to watch old late show clips from 2014 on because I already know the gist of all that happened. But I really don’t know very much about 1992-2012. So a lot of the Jon Stewart clips on KZbin are from like 1998-2005. Surprisingly, Jon was not that different from letterman in the early days. I personally think it’s partly because he didn’t wise up until after getting married, having children, and living through 9/11. I appreciate Jon for growing up. But it’s rough that it took him YEARS to change. And honestly, I’m sure Colbert wasn’t woke af back then, but I can’t really recall disliking him like I disliked Jon after watching those old episodes. So props to Colbert, evie, and their families and friends :) )

I know Stephen likes the energy of the live audience, but it's really ruining the show for me. There are too many pauses obviously waiting for the applause sign to light up, overbearing cheers, etc. I loved the more intimate feel of the show without the audience. The audience-free shows felt much more honest, more indepth, and with more content that Stephen and we, the audience at home, cared about. Now it seems to be more "fluff" and pandering to the studio audience. "A" Late Show went from being a highlight of my day and helped many of us keep humor in a very tough time. "The" Late Show does not have that personal connection touch. We never see that real, passionate side of Stephen anymore. It's during segments like this one that I finally find the joy of the show again.

Your question makes me think that the only way to resolve it is 10 years from now, when our time can be seen from perspective distance.....
