Some cars do benefit from bolt ons. For the 2012 Mazda 3 Skyactiv, just going to 93 the ecu changed some parameters and picked up 7hp, and the stock exhaust has 4-2-1 long tube headers so intake + 2.5L Skyactiv throttle + exhaust does add a bit of power...... To a 155hp 2.0L econobox. The Skyactiv does have 13:1 compression and GDI too

I added headers the same time I did a full cold air intake on my Acura tl so I think I got a bit more out of that intake than compared to the stock manifolds. I'm able to pull more air in and actually expel it much faster.

Sounds like I definitely need a tune then. I changed my intake manifold and intake from 3" to 4". What I've noticed is the car drive good with about 20% throttle...sounds good and pulls hard. 50-100% throttle and it feels sluggish. The intake is louder, but feels as if it struggling under heavy throttle. Thanks for the video.

As a retired tech, I can see where polished aluminum that are commonly offered for an "LS" swap in 56 year old C10 look good, but normal stop and go city driving is going to gain heat in the polished metal. It can be tuned a dozen times, but unless you are highway driving, I say find a plastic one or wrap it black header tape. DK. ASE Master since 78.

Should I get this "Black Header Tape" for a Honda Accord 08-12 L4-2.4L with a Takeda Stage-2 Cold Air Intake System w/Pro DRY S Filter? Because Id think where I am its more of a stop and go area

@@hakimdurand8427 I am convinced that these polished aluminum cold air inlets are a joke! They will absorb more heat from the under hood environment than they ever remove. Now a plastic or "Heat Tapped" wrapped defeats the cool look factor, but getting "Cold Air" in to the throttle valve and into the combustion chamber is the goal, but gets wiped out by heat gain in the aluminum tube. I will wrap mine!

@@hakimdurand8427 Yes, on a 90 degree F summers day, lay a few chrome SnapOn wrench next to your driveway project in the sun, after a while pick one up and try to use it. As my grandad said; "It's hotter that hell + 3 degrees!" He is right. Now under the hood, coolant is hitting 212 degrees F. Each PSI the pressure cap holds raises the boiling point of a 50/50 mix 3 1/4 degree F. Say you 185 thermostat and 185 "Cooling Fans" kick on, the A/C is dripping condensate under the RF fender, engine oil cooler, transmission cooler and factory P/S loop of steel line out front, I would bet any folks driving in stop & go conditions would find a polished aluminum "Cold Air" intake with a 15 LB. pressure cap, producing 230+ degree F air / environment would raise the temp of the air entering the engine, considering most kits have the MAF meter at the air cleaner instead in front of the throttle valve, would incorrectly effect the fuel mapping chart? I say yes! I just rely on my common sense as it would perhaps be different at 65 MPH across Texas, maybe! I will test this someday if still around. I have two Dr's that are going crazy right now, physical limits that keep a 6'3" guy from mowing / scooping snow or walking, so as I pay bills that did nothing for a guy in his early 60's, to decide if I can do my 1967 C10 w/5.3 LS all because I wanted an automatic and something to drive! I don't want a polished turd, but even with almost every tool needed in 4 boxes, find other break stuff faster than I can fix it and I am positive my youngest of two sons will want me to paint a second car for him, his 86 Monte SS. So much and so little time! I tell them after 43+ years of fixing cars and teaching on the road, this is my time. I am reaching the end of my road too! Don't be selfish! When it all boils down to is your usage, where you drive and how you drive. It is yours, not mine. I can respect that! DK, ASE master since 78.

Great video Iv used cold air intakes in the past. Didn’t really notice big difference in performance maybe a little. On my gen 6 camaro took that flex rubber coupler u pointed out off placed a strait silicone coupler instead. Then bought a couple good panel filters like to have 2 so when ones wet after cleaning dont have to wait to dry. Ported my air intake manifold went with a bigger throttle body just because i had one laying around. Made my own TB adapter plate after everything maybe $150 into it all. No tune yet been poor waiting to get my HP tuner tools. Have to say definitely feel something didn’t know if it was in my head. My wife drives car more than i do back and forth to work. Didn’t tell her anything about what iv done asked her if car felt any different than usual. She said that it felt faster idk if she knows but for around $150 little bit of work indignity definitely worth it lol!! Didn’t want to waste money on cold air intake because for one idk if there worth it for me. Second I have turbos for car just haven’t had time or money to install. So cold air intake would definitely be wasted money because after turbos wont need the CAI. I believe what u say because I know u know ur stuff someone i can trust as always. Iv watched these videos with 15-30 hp gains in the past I wanted to believe them. But after my experiences with the CAI iv used im on same page as u. Thank u kyle

Skin friction on the inside of the intake manifold, heads, exhaust manifold. The drag on the inside of an engine is astronomical. Polishing out the airways is dramatically effective in increasing torque, just polishing, porting is a whole different animal. A radical difference can be made in a naturally aspirated, but even more radical in a forced induction setup. I need a Dyno so I can prove this, the transformation is amazing in any engine. 💯👌

I think most cold air intake swaps are more phsycological... I also add that I bought and installed one on a stock motor. I too thought it was faster but in reality it just made it sounds fast and I wanted to be faster so thus the butt dyno saying wow this thing gained a full second. Then I cammed the truck and put a top end on and was like, now thats gains!

@@natthaphonnoble2407 no you didn’t. A different tube on your intake will not impact mpg. If it did all manufacturers would use it because they spend millions of dollars to increase fuel economy by 0.1mpg. Any change before the throttle plate will have zero impact on fuel economy. 11 base mini cooper, ripped out the stock intake and slapped a cone right behind the hot ass engine block. Everything else is bone stock save for 100lb of weight reduction. Next going to buy an S hood, cut out the scoop and fab a flat duct to cool the intake air. After that I'll get a nice full exhaust kit and THEN tune it. Then it will be time for . Even warm air with no feed, it's noticeable. Peak torque is 4200rpm, peak HP is 6k. Obviously it's not adding to the PEAK horsepower or torque, 4.5-6k rpm is about the same, but everything before that is obviously improved. Initial launch is smoother but not much quicker. It's most noticeable between 2500 and 3500 across the VVT hit. Curb weight is 2500 lbs, plus me at 180 and about 40lbs of etceteras, and I know in weight reduction you factor the % change off personal gross weight, so round it to 2750 for good measure, so 100lb reduction is about a 3.5% change, not much haha but I know I can lose at least another 200lbs get over that 10% mark so when I tune it up to 150HP it will feel like 165 lmao, maybe I can take up jogging...

Over the fan shroud, 90 down beside it to the bottom of radiator, 180 back up, 90 back across motor into a box, out of the box and 45 towards throttle body, 45 into throttle body. Yeah, i can absolutely tell the difference with a cold air intake now installed. No, i have no idea what the gain was, other than my engine no longer has asthma and gets out of its own way, but it is a very real gain.
