Lydia was fantastic. The group Cold Blood never got to the popularity that other San Francisco groups got. True during that time living and seeing concerts we had alot of choices. It was about all we did when we were not in high school. I first heard them on KSAN San Francisco FM radio stations. I Than went down and bought this album. OHHH MY GOD, this album blew me away. Especially You Got Me Humming. They deserved more attention than they got. I really liked them in concert, they could jam. I just wish the othet parts of the US ever got to hear them, and maybe see them play. It would have blown away your mind. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ

Dave! We were so lucky! Concerts and live music are now a luxury. So expensive. I had a young man doing some electrical work on my house. We talked about how expensive it is in the SF Bay Area is for young singles. He said he was 32 and had never been to a concert. It was an expense he could not even consider right now! How sad.

@adc2327 Yes, she's a good woman! It was a magical time in the mid-60s and 70s. Living in the Bay Area, when I was a teenager, was awesome. It wasn't until I was older that I realized , talking to other people, how blessed we are in the Bay Area. Most of the people I met in the army, and most of them only went to one or two concerts. it was hard to convince them that in the Bay Area, we did have a lot of choices as to what groups we were going to see that weekend. There were also the free Sunday concerts in the San Francisco State Park. Also, I volunteered at Music Switchboard of Marin, and working there was the icing on a cake. I met a lot of members of a lot of bands. Twice me and my boss, and I went to Jerry Garcia house in Novato to let him look over our index cards we kept on the musicians in Marin County, for a summer replacement for the bass player. Working their I got in free to concerts in Marin. I also went to Altimont Stones' free concert, and I went on the third day to the Monterey Pop Festival and saw Jimmy Hendrix, the best concert I went to. As far as Lydia, of Cold Blood, my sister knows her. She played at my Brother In Law's birthday party at her house. My sister told her all about me and my brother being big fans of hers. She was kinda shocked that we loved her music and remember her and songs well. The days of gold are gone, but the memories will last my lifetime. Dave in Sierra Vista AZ

@davidewing5605 Dave! What fantastic music memories we have. You mentioned Altamont. That Sunday my father took us to brunch. Something he never did. At the last minute my friends decided to go. They tried calling me. No answering machines, voice-mail or cell phones back then. I was stuck at a restaurant on the San Leandro marina with my parents. I was able to see Hendrix 3 times. Were you able to go to any of the concerts during the closing of Fillmore West?

Good old Winterland! When it was torn down I worked about 3 blocks away. A co worker and I snuck in at lunch on a day that they were not using the wrecking ball. One last look. I can't believe we did that. I also can believe it wasn't more secure.

I saw them in Frenchy's in Hayward back in 1970. I've always been amazed how many people have never heard of Cold Blood, but then they stayed pretty local in the bay area. Perhaps that's why.

@@sharoncooper5966 Your knowledge or lack of it doesn't hold a lot of weight, neither does mine. This is social media. There were tons of groups in the 60s and 70s in the San Francisco Bay Area. Some were very talented, but never got past being local groups. It was a wonderful place to grow up as a music loving kid. With that many music groups around, some were neighbors, friends and even more. I had a job where I had to travel. That is where I figured out some of our local groups were no longer best kept secrets. Too bad you never heard of Cold Blood and Lydia Pense. They were a fun band. We had everything from punk to r&b, rock to Latin, jazz and blues. We were drowning in music and I was treading water!

When she was in the 7th grade at Goodwin School she didn't sound so great because she used to imitate the AWFUL Brenda Lee - that all of America has to listen to every December for 31 straight days. Yuck. But she got the Blues!! And here she's AWESOME!! Her brother used to drive by sometimes. He looked like a handsome Fonzi with a white T-shirt and a pack of smokes tucked in the sleeve, who was very shy and never stopped by even when Lydia was chit chatting with my next door neighbors, Larry & Paul. Up the street was Mike Shreve who ended up playing drums for Santana at Woodstock. Quite a group. Here it's obvious she's doing a little Janice Joplin, however she is actually a smoother Janice with her own savagery as she plays a Joe Cocker air guitar. Very cool.
@mikefarrell7342 жыл бұрын
What an underappreciated talent I am personally a little offended when I hear Joplin described as the definitive female singer of the 60s she was very good at what she did but there were plenty of singers who were better than her Lydia being one of them as well as overlooked she really was something
