This was THE BAND to be into in 60s heyday. They were the hottest, funkiest, most soulful, get down band around East or West coast...and we thought Lydia Pense could out sing everyone...including Janice.

I saw Lydia and Cold Blood several times in San Jose at The Bodega Nightclub. Unbelievably sexy, incredible singer and great horns in the band. They often shared the horns with Tower Of Power. Phenomenal music!!

Had the pleasure of meeting Lydia in St Paul back in 2010. she was amazing in performance and then sweet and kind in person. Been a fan since CB was heard on KQRS in’68.

When I first heard these two songs my mind was blown. In my opinion one of the greatest performances by a female vocalist EVER. And the musicianship isn't too shabby either ...

This music still holds up even now....both Cold Blood and Tower of Power are still going strong. I will be going to a TOP concert in the Chicago suburbs at the end of this month.

Late Winter 1970 in Tommy's Bar, Tallahassee, Florida: this song got played a lot every night, and we all thought Lydia could outsing any other woman singing on the radio. But the whole band was good, and the guitar solo stuck with me over the decades, even when I had forgotten the name of the band and could only remember "Lydia". Thanks to google search I found my way here, and of course am enjoying hearing these geat tunes anew. Thanks for posting them together, as they should be. Nice one!

My very first concert ever. Waiting to report to boot camp in San Diego I was in Monterey in 1972 walking around downtown. Didn't know anyone. Saw the marquee on a tiny theater. Cold Blood opening for Elvin Bishop. Fantastic!

Used to watch them back in the 70's at a Recreation Center in the Oakland Hills. The used to play pretty frequently as did Tower of Power, Malo (with Carlos Santana sitting in once in a while). Price $2. The good old days.

I’ll never forget the time I was down in Monterey, California and I was walking around Cannery Row and saw a chalkboard sign in front of a restaurant announcing that the entertainment for that evening was Cold Blood. I’ve always loved them so of course I was going to stick around and see them live! It was a small venue and I was excited at the thought of being up close. There were still several hours before the show so I decided to just stay there and have dinner and wait for the show to start. I was sitting at the bar having something to drink when this tiny blonde woman came up and asked if the stool next to me was free. I said yes so she sat down and I realized who she was. None other than Lydia Pense of Cold Blood! I wish I could remember what we talked about, but it was just the basic chit-chat you’d normally have with anybody in that circumstance. She was very down to earth. We ate dinner together and I told her I was there for the show and looking forward to it. She was, of course, fabulous!

My first show at Winterland Auditorium in San Francisco, first up Cold Blood. I got this album the day it was released and have had a copy ever since. I saw them quite a few times back in the day. By the way, in that first show Cold blood was followed by Santana (about the time of the 1st album), Country Joe and the Fish, and the Jefferson Airplane. Tickets were $3.50.

Didn’t they play at Stanford’s amphitheater? In the late 60’s? Or at the park across from Stanford shopping center? Loved them!
@sirqitous7 ай бұрын
I was there, in 1972 (or was it 1970? or 1971?) at Frost Amphitheatre -- were you there too? A fight had broken out among bikers, in the crowd, during their set. The music stopped, Lydia pled for peace, and then the music resumed. She and Cold Blood were great on that day, and these songs were the highlight I remember -- I've forgotten what other bands were on the show that day.
