I remember seeing Cold Chisel in a Sydney pub in the late 70s for 6 Friday nights in a row for free. We just took good music for granted in those days.

We sure did Michael because as you know it was all fantastic. I always remember at pubs, at the end of the night Jimmy would jump onto the piano to sing as the entire crowd went off.

Americans finding music we all saw down at the local pub in the 70’s and 80’s 40 years later is kinda amusing. Great song. Great memories of live Aussie music.

That's why Chisel are so marvellous. So many different styles of music, they certainly didn't do the same thing every time. And always amazing.

Interesting you see them as a chill good time band. I guess a lot of aussies sure do. But their lyrics are often quite dark and emotional.

Jimmy has lost most of that clean mid-range these days. His gritty belt it still awesome, but his effortless cleans are kind of gone.
@adelaidecity76 Жыл бұрын
@@RolandDeschain1 I actually think he permanently damaged (or at least changed) his voice during the 84 last stand series of concerts. I remember reading that something happened to his voice but he kept on going. You can definitely hear that he's struggling in any of those Last Stand songs and then he recorded Bodyswerve straight after and his voice wasn't great in that either and then it kinda stabilised from 85 onwards and it's been more or less the same ever since.

The great myth about Jimmy Barnes is that he 'screams' his vocals. Well that obviously isn't true. His vocals here are very smooth here. Pitch perfect. Cold Chisel's vocals are shared between Jimmy and Ian Moss their Guitarist. As other people have mentioned in these comments, this great song was written by the mighty and awesome STEVE PRESTWICH, the Band's Drummer. RIP- Steve Cold Chisel are on the top rung of Australian Bands. I recommend that people listen to "My Baby" written by the Band's Bass player, Phil Small. "My Baby" reached #32 in the USA. Guitarist Ian Moss provides lead vocals and Joe Camilleri of Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons contributed the saxophone solo.

In the bands early days, they actually fired Jimmy because they didn't like his singing, they replaced him with his half brother John Swan. This encouraged Jimmy to get some voice lessons in order to return to Cold Chisel. My favourite "Chisel" song....."Breakfast at Sweethearts" or "One Long Day".
