I never understood why Cold Chisel didn't make it in the US. (Pearls before swine).
@aflsteve91395 жыл бұрын
@@jonesr227 By their own admission they just weren't up for it. I think it's the same documentary that this clip came from where they talk about not being prepared to go back to being an opening act, not wanting to leave families to tour for long periods in the states to build an audience, hating the record company etc, etc. Don said something along the lines of "we should have done more with what we had because a lot of people did a lot more with a lot less" or something like that.
@romantatts18644 жыл бұрын
@@aflsteve9139 , after getting treated subpar by US record labels & them giving Chisel the run around , later emerged their amped up single " You got Nothing I Want , You Got Nothing I Need " .
@aflsteve91394 жыл бұрын
@@romantatts1864 That's true Roman but the band also recognise that they should have done much better in the US and a lot of that came down to them just not being prepared to do the hard yards again like they'd done here. Check out the doco if you can find it. It's well worth a look.

I saw it, certainly wasn't shocking or memorable to me at the time, everyone was smashing things up far more than that at the end of a gig back then.
@aflsteve91395 жыл бұрын
Care to name names and tell us who "everyone" was? I saw a lot of gigs back then and I don't recall anyone else smashing up their gear the way Chisel trashed the set at the Rock Awards.... unless you count the Who in their early days and that wasn't exactly 1981.

@@aflsteve9139 Yeah The Who, and The Yardbirds, Jimi Hendrix, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Deep Purple just to start with, all smashed up stuff on stage, all before Cold Chisel did their publicity stunt.
@aflsteve91392 жыл бұрын
@@Bigweight66 Take the Yardbirds, Pistols and Clash off your list. Beck smashed his ONCE for the film Blowup. SImonon smashed his bass ONCE... (at the Palladium for the photo that eventually become the cover of London Calling) and the only documented occasion the Pistols smashed anything on stage was their first gig when they destroyed the amps loaned to them by headliner Bazooka Joe... not their own instruments. But hey, even if those 6 you mentioned, plus Kiss, smashed their gear nightly, that doesn't get close to "everyone was smashing things up far more than that at the end of a gig back then" does it?
@Bigweight662 жыл бұрын
@@aflsteve9139 What are you rambling on about? Can you comprehend that "everyone" is a figure of speech? The ones I named (plus lots of others) smashed their gear up before Cold Chisel ever did, its that simple. The question was NOT how often like just the once or nightly?
