Күн бұрын

This time we both went out together for hot tent camping an overnight with our two Border collies Annie and Johnny. It was fall and cold nights and our plan was to canoe along a river but we were delayed and decided to not do that and end up in the dark in a wild river.
Instead, we took plan B and paddled across a lake to a river bank just where the Pearl River (Pärlälven) ends.
We pitched our hot tent and assembled the tiny ultralight wood stove on the dry river bank where we had a beautiful but cold evening cooking by the campfire before we settled down for the night.
This is just one of several shorter trips that is possible to make after a full day of work. We are lucky to live in the north close to endless areas where it’s possible to make tours like this. Jokkmokk is really a good place for outdoor people who wants to live in middle of the paradise.

Great video and very useful information about the gear 👌. We have used double blade paddles in a canoe, but they have to be a lot longer than in a kayak. We used over 3 meter long paddles for a 300 km open water trip, but maybe 280 would be enough 🤔 -Jarno

I am a 70 year old Canadian canoeist and I started using a double bladed paddled two years ago . Paddle length is very important, the canoe is wider than a kayak and you are sitting higher this means a longer paddler try a 250 mm . I alway take a canoe paddle as I do like paddling that way but for into the wind power nothing beats the double blade.
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your input about the double blade. Several people has commented that they use a long double blade with bent shaft. Do you also use a bent shaft and is that to prefer before a straight shaft ? /Stina

@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA I am very much a straight blade paddler. While paddling I use the gunwale as a fulcrum , prying off the gunwale during my J stroke. This method is noisy but burns less calories. To eliminate the noise I have a leather sleeve on my paddle , You should be able to move the canoe in any direction without switching sides of the canoe . I find draws. Sweeps and pry strokes to be very satisfying to use. Happy Trails!

I watched the video & read all the replies B4 composing the following: Thank you for speaking English Loved the overhead drone footage & all that water, clean & drinkable. The stove intrigued me even though I have no intention of getting one. I had to watch several other youtube videos that reviewed the pros & cons of it compared to some other brands of small compact stoves. Watching you two canoe brought back memories of me when I was a Boy Scout & had access to a canoe during monthly weekend overnight camping trips. I always felt secure & comfortable in a canoe. Now is the time of year to be checking & tightening all fuel hose connections on those snowmobiles so they don't come loose as happened a couple of years ago in the midst of a blizzard, at night. Warm Regards from Reno, Nevada.U.S.A.

Matti. You need to do a video on how to manage moisture inside the tent on cold multi-day winter trips WITHOUT the use of a hut. How do you keep moisture from freezing in your sleeping bag when you're out for 5 days at it's -15C?
@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA

@@JOKKMOKKGUIDERNA .... so do you always plan to go by a hut to dry out gear? To me this is the greatest question in winter touring, how does a person keep the sleeping bag dry over multiple days.

Yepp... Brown bears, red fox, Elk (they call this moose i US), reindeer, hare and so on. Nothing is dangerous. We also have Wolf, wolverine and Lynx bat that's really rare. Wolf almost never... Nothing attack you and are aggressiv. ...or that's not true... the Elk is sometimes little bit irritated if they are hungry and the snow is deep. Then they are dangerous... /Matti

There's nothing wrong with a double blade I bring a bent shaft for backup and fishing, 10 oz paddle made in the USA , ZRE. My double blade is 24 oz and carbon fiber you need a longer paddle 245-260cm. I can do up to 6mph or 4mph avg (10km/hr-7.5) So easy to bring so much stuff hope to canoe with you guys some day in Sweden!
