thank you for your video and all the advise, they have been very helpful. I would like to ask your advise on salt bar sweating. I checked on website and one of the recommendation is to shrink wrap after unmolding. Will this affect the curing if the soap is wrapped immediately?
@IDreamInSoap3 жыл бұрын
HI Alison. Salt bars sweating can be a problem if you like in a humid environment. You cannot wrap them once unmoulded as you are correct it will stop the bars curing.

A friend of mine has psoriasis, asked me to *try* making an oatmeal and salt bar, talk about ROCKS! I told her about the results,but she still wanted them. Solved the cutting problem, by cutting mostly through for bars, leaving the last bit for her to either ruin a knife of her own or just snap off as she used, and she was ecstatic with the solution! The wee bits of scrabble, she just gathered together and kept for tossing by the handful, or other measure, into a bath when she felt like a luxurious soak...so it helped us both out.🤷♀️she was in no shape to attempt cutting those bars any more than I am! She's got well over 20+years on me and several heart attacks on top of that...(🤔) no WAY was I sending up that slab of rock for her to figure out cutting! Plus her husband is even more aged and problematic health, with a commensurate stubborn streak(they're well matched) so if she didn't try(out of common sense) *HE WOULD*! I needed NEITHER of them on my conscience! They're older...already overloaded and to take it easier in and as much as they keep *trying* to slow down and their"golden years" life just keeps dropping more and more in their laps...I have NO IDEA how they cope. Literally THINKING about the challenges *she* faces on a daily basis, EXHAUSTs me! Just thinking! Never mind doing. Or even attempting to try to SCHEDULE! 🤪😳🙃IF THERE WAS EVER A REAL LIFE WONDER WOMAN, SHE'S IT!!! MAYBE NOT THE FACE AND FIGURE, BUT WHO KNOWS HOW HER FAMILY IS GOING TO COPE WHEN HER BODY CAN NO LONGER COPE AND JUST FLAT OUT QUITS? WORSE, she has a number of friends that would TRY to step up and help, but every single one of us is a two hour drive away!! Her own children are mostly "no more", a large part of *why* her life is so overwhelming (shes taken in 3 of her grandchildren to raise when their own parents gave up on life.😥😢🤷♀️) but what ELSE was she going to do when the other grandparents showed little to no interest?

@sarahgladden83254 жыл бұрын
Beautiful soap Lisa! May I ask how much extra salt you added to account for wastage?
@IDreamInSoap4 жыл бұрын
Hi Sarah. In my little slab it takes 550g of oil, so for the salt bars that would allow 220g of salt. I but in my piles and then weighed them, they came to 83g. I guessed that 50g of that would stay in the soap so added 220 - 50 = 170g salt to my soap base. When I unmoulded 30g fell out (so pretty good guess), so maybe overall in the whole batch I could be 3g over, but some bars will have more and some less and I'm sure a few more grains will fall out. So I'm OK with that. I piled mine quite high and used a thickish trace, if yours it thinner more salt will stick. If anyone else (not in the UK) is reading this and is concerned about why this is so detailed, it's just because with UK regs we have to use exact quantities allowed by our assessed recipes. If you don't have to do that then you are free to use whatever amount you like.
@sarahgladden83254 жыл бұрын
@@IDreamInSoap Thank you Lisa! Perhaps we should have to see if we can get an addendum for this recipe which would allow a slight variation of salt to account for this?

These are beautiful bars! I’m going to try this! I love my individual bar molds but the exposed part of of my soap is never as smooth and shiny. Sometimes it has ash. How do you avoid that?

It’s the final step with the clay rubbed in that really makes these more realistic! Wonder if you used a clay solution with narrow eye dropper it might save time? Was that Himalayan salt? I find that incredibly scratchy, causing cuts and scratches even. (Must be the structure of the crystals?). Maybe large crystal regular sea salt colored with mica would work without smearing the surrounding soap?
@yourbookisexceptionallylou49064 жыл бұрын
Hey! That technique you used to fill in those cracks we call distressing. It's a little different in a painting contest/furnishing context though. We typically dilute a black/brown, and loosely paint it over a surface. Then go back and wipe off the top. The tiny cracks hold onto the paint create a "distressed"/aged look

In theory it would a tiny bit, but for my soaps I have to stick to assessments, so have to use exactly the amount of charcoal up. Even if you didn't it would be a tiny amount and that would be covered by the superfat
