Those MK4 TDIs were one of th best cars VW ever made. Still see a fair amount of them around here.

they have aged well. Still a good city and highway car with a huge trunk (boot) and the styling is still great for being 20 years old. If maintained they last a long time. If not they fall apart.

Greg's Garage just bought one with 242K miles last month. I’m 16, bought it with my own money. I have learned a ton about them, and have some upgrades I’ve been thinking of doing. Already put 1500 miles on it. Too bad mine is an automatic, but I’m getting about 450 miles on a full tank of gas. EGR deleting it soon. Hopefully I’ll get even more MPG!
@RobertE924 жыл бұрын
@@EnglehartProductions don’t waste your time or money deleting egr on an ALH kid. Engine runs NOTICEABLY quieter and smoother with egr. Everybody forgets to mention a normally operating egr actually remains fully closed under full throttle so it ain’t gonna improve power or mpg any noticeable amount. BTW I’ve had 4 ALH cars/vans and had a ton of mods done to them.

That's good. Is it 1.9tdi diesel? If so, how you maintain it? Can you suggest some tips for better performance and engine life? Which engine oil you use? Any additives that you can suggest? Thank you mate.
@gregs_garage3 жыл бұрын
Change the oil and filter at 5-8000 kms. Use a synthetic diesel oil like Rotella T6 with a weight matching your climate. I use 5w40 here. Change the fuel filter every 20-30,000 kms. Change the air and cabin filters when dirty. That's about it!

@@gregs_garage Thank you friend. Well, I have 2006 Skoda Octavia rider 1.9tdi diesel MT clocked 105000 kms on odo. Previously I was using Mobil 1 0w40 full synthetic. It's good oil. But now I want to try Liqui Moly toptec 5w40. Have you tried any diesel additive or oil additive ?
@gregs_garage3 жыл бұрын
@@1.9tdilove71 additives usually not needed. Sometimes I run Power Service fuel treatment in the winter to help with anti-gel but I doubt it does much to winter diesel which already has a blend of additives (kerosene?) for lower temps. Oil additive not needed if using proper oil.

TDI Volkswagens are always robust and reliable cars. Their reliability might even surpass Toyotas and Hondas. Unfortunately, they were ruined by the scandal in 2015 and now, Volkswagen is shifting focus towards electric cars which is the way to go for them. But, I will still miss the robust and reliable VW TDI cars. Back in the 70's and 80's, there used to be a lot of diesel cars on the market. But, most automakers dropped their diesel cars in the 90's. Thus, leaving Volkswagen to be one of the few automakers of diesel cars remaining in North America. For a long time, the Volkswagen Jetta TDI had no competitors until the Chevrolet Cruze Diesel was introduced. Volkswagen Jetta TDIs are like baby Cummins diesels where as Ford Focus diesels are like baby Powerstrokes. Think of the Volkswagen Jetta TDI as like the robust and reliable Dodge Ram Cummins and the Ford Focus diesel as like the equally reliable Ford Super Duty with the Ford Powerstroke engines. Even though diesel cars are quite uncommon in North America, diesel cars are very popular in Europe and almost every automaker makes them there. For those who don't want a Prius, get a Volkswagen TDI or any diesel car instead.
