It´s very common that it´s just adjustments of the valves that´s needed. That would improve the cold-start capabilities also. Love the sound.. :)

123 126 and 124 are the toughest in my opinion. God, my dad had a 126 300D for 10 years and that car dragged all sorts of trailers, boats, other cars, even his friend's truck and it never gave up. Most badass cars ever built to ride on the road.

We start cars that have been sitting for 30 to 40 years all the time but at least they are rare 413 Golden Camando's or an old SEL. Starting my old daily driver 300D was about the same as this video.

Abnormal smoke from the exhaust. Sounds like worn injectors. Valve maybe not opening & closing right also? Would love to see an update on this one

You can hear best about 3.20 that there's a bent inlet valve allowing it to blow back through the inlet manifold... That's the least of it's worries though tbf, the poor thing's in Russia or somewhere...

In order to bend a valve, the timing had to be off. These cars have timing chains. If the chain broke, the car would never run again. What you're suggesting is impossible. Most likely it is missing and injector, glowplug, or a heat shield is leaking past an injector. It is just one cylinder, and since it's a L5 it can still run semi-decently. You can see how rough it's running though. She's missing a plug.

Notice, that the batch with the cars serial-number has been removed (the carved out hole over the engine), that means it used to be an stolen car. This car has a long history - from Stuttgard, Germany to Russia via Car theft.

Head Gasket Failure often occurs on these between the oil-way that sends oil at full pressure up to the camshaft and the water galleries. After the car has been parked for a long time the coolant disappears. If the oil level is now checked with the dipstick it will become clear where the coolant has gone to! Gasket "scrub" with such a long alloy head on an iron block does not help matters and IMHO having a separate head for each cylinder does help to avoid this problem. Typically light alloy expands at about three times the rate of steel or cast iron so one does need to consider this fact. One car manufacturer (now ceased) made several "long-bolt-engines" which were unsatisfactory for this very reason. Admittedly the small capacity engines were OK but the 1800cc version was not. When these engines were fitted into small 4x4s and their owners tried to tow fully laden double horseboxes, disaster was only minutes away!
