Cold Steel have some great items made out of polypropylene which is stronger more durable than any wood. I don't understand why they don't make their spear poles out of it.

+Bevan Jonsson You could try the Escrima stick, They are pretty thick and would take a fair amount of work to get it shaved down to fit this spear. Might work.

How could it be illegal to stick some one Breaking into your house with this, I think a Bullet would do more damage and they say that's ok to use or hitting a Home Run on some one's head with a good old Bat, now a days what ever you have to protect your self would seem to be ok, better then being Raped or Killed waiting for the Police to show up. DO WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO SAVE YOUR LIFE AND OTHER'S IN YOUR OWN HOME.

Sorry, self defense is illegal or restricted in many places. In Britain if you bought this for self defense you would be automatically guilty. if you bought it as a collectible, you might have a chance. Who decides? Not you. Some states in the US have a "duty to retreat" law that makes tips the balance in favor of the criminal. Hope you live elsewhere.Stab him till he drops to the floor and drops his weapon, then call 911.

That spear will do far more damage than a bullet. Think of the size of wound you leave behind after single thrust into someone's stomach? You could very easily and literally spill someone's guts with that thing or open them up from neck to crotch... think of the mess!

@@Nemoticon Part of the damage from bullets is the hydrostatic trauma, so not only do you have caliber, but behaviour of the bullet inside the body as well. I think the spear culd be pretty even with that though. It also depends on where you're hit. But if it's nice and sharp, and you swing it and drive it hard and deep enough you'll totally destroy anyone in front of you just as fast or faster than shooting them

Really. An "assegai" was a longer throwing spear. What you have there, although a poor replica is an Iklwa, short thrusting spear used by Zulus.

Well you are correct about this one being an Iklwa, but I wouldn't call that spear poor replica at all, it's a quite good tempered carbon steel spear head.

I know I’m 4 years late but this is not entirely true, while similar to the Ikwla this is not one. The ikwla had a pommel on the end to make it easier to pull out of an enemy. The assegai was indeed a long spear intended for long range thrusting and throwing but was often made shorter for close range combat in its later forms before Shaka redesigned it as the ikwla.

You can get a coldsteel spring steel Bowie bush craft knife for 16$ pretty much the same thing once its on the end of a pole.. Maybe even better as you have the option of using it as a knife as well

Wrong it's a spear he was claimed to have invented but he did in fact not. It was in use by tribes before Shaka was using it. He first encountered it serving in another tribes army. Shaka was just famous for tactics pioneering not the spear.

I was not into spears. But the short Zulu spears seems perfect for zombies. 😀...I just ordered “The Spit” from Zombie Tools. It is very unique weapon. A mixture of a short spear and sword. Check it out. I started adding spear and staff training along with sword work.

I am thinking of buying this right now to go alongside my Ka-Bar Warthog(among two combat ka-bars, a full size tanto and a usmc short), my 1917 Cutlass, my SOG battleaxe (not hawk, battleaxe)....I'm satisfied on my sword, knife and axe kick for now. This + the Cold Steel polyproplyne shield?=zombie apocalypse win! I just train for melee and martial arts so, for me, it seems like it's well-worth it! Sk5 is VERY good stuff, very similar to 1095

Incapacitation is as far as you want to go, I really don't think that sort of attitude is going to do you any good if the time comes. You could get a longer sentence than the other guy if you're not careful.

This or the boar spear? which is thicker blade? better for hunting/ home defense? (i will be making my own length handle for either, longer than the short assegai, but shorter than the boars shaft...) Thanks for The help!

*Assegai head = 2mm thick; 2.5in wide; 13in long; 12.8oz, 3ft or 6.75ft total length *Boar head = 2.5mm thick; 18.5in long; 1.25lb; 82in total length Assegai is light and quick. The boar spear is heavy duty. If you want something to mess around with get the assegai. If you're really hunting boar then get the boar.

Maybe because they were skimping on metal or had primitive forging technology. Early European spears also had tangs and then later they were all made with sockets because of technology improvements.

This spear is called Iklwa (Zulu) and is not invented by Shaka Zulu. This is slashing and stabbing weapon. Iklwa has nothing to do with hunting. You holding it with reverse grip technique, like a knife. Good luck with your purchase. I hope you will never need this tool in your life.

Traditionally this, an Iklwa, was used by the Zulus as a close quarters weapon. The larger spear was used for range.
