I don’t think they sell it any longer It had a little screw that secured it if I remember correctly

Did the same thing, the only advice I have is that it is worth it to make sure the grain in the handle lines up with the cutting edges (the way an axe should be), if you plan on doing any cutting/slashing strikes with it. I snapped the original handle on mine cutting water bottles with my poor edge alignment.

Yeah I knew all that too, but the handle still split right down the grain line, which was at 90 degrees to the cutting edge. Plus hammers are short, maybe 12" to 14" and shovels are rarely used to making baseball bat like swings, the point is when a spear is swung, particularly one with a heavy head like this, the shaft is under incredible stress at the point of impact due to how long they are, much more than correctly grained hammers. This is why combat, not throwing, spears have much thicker shafts than this does. But try it, buy one of these turn the grain 90 degrees and send a 24 oz plastic bottle full of water flying 20 feet a few times. I'll also.add that the shafts on these do not feel like any ashwood I've dealt with before.

This is an old video but I recently bought the same exact spear and noticed the shaft doesn't actually fit into the blade really well. It's definitely worth it to either buy your own or sand the original spear down. I loved the blade and it made well, but the shaft kinda ruined the experience for me. I don't mind having to go out and make my own or even sand down the original but for the price point I was pretty disappointed. Thanks for the video! Really informative and helped me upgrade mine.

Defeats the point doesnt it? Now its just a partizan. The assegai is meant to be multi purpose, close range, long range, sword or spear. Lengthening it decreases utility imo

CloroxBleach It’s a Stanley scraper/file not sure of the official name. Most hardware stores/chains will have it.

I always like doing the person touch to my stuff whenever i can, at the very least i usually strip off the factory coat give the wood a stain or burn before adding multiple coats of linseed oil my axes always got paracord under the head. I ordered the short handled spear and may do some carving before a burn, oil and paracord wraps, i might add a short spike on the butt we'll see though lol. I got the short hqndled one so i can strap it to my pack, if i liked the blade quality i was going to order a second one and make a long handle for a woods walking stick and primary defense with the short one as a backup.
