Its interesting, if those, that the previous one from 1.4116 German is really the original one too? I saw one is our shop, the drop-point, but I am afraid about this one. The old logotype on the handle and different steel - do you think, its original one?

I always felt that if the knife can handle the wood test then it's fine. Everything else is for fun. That said, I do think newer CS blades seem to be not as tough compared to older ones.

Agree. Although, after Joe X videos I have changed my mind and have seen that the higher price does not guarantee higher quality. Actually, that's why today I have bought 3 different knives at only about 15 Euros each from a not promoted brand. All of them are perfect: 440 steel, full tangs, drop point, spear point - stone washed, and also bowie black coated survival knife. The steel is good for me in bushcraft/gardening, but not hardened enough for tactical application.

A full profile tang is undesirable in a large knife like this due to shock and weight distribution, that's why almost no historical knives were designed that way. What you want is a very smooth geometric transition between the tang and blade that doesn't create a stress riser.

19:52 It's funny that the tip broke first and the tang only broke because of the aftershock. I'm not going to say it's a perfect design but this is a huge upgrade over anything made by KaBar.

Nice clean break at the guard. Typical for a knife with no differential hardening from the blade to handle transition. JoeX is where we get the real deal. Yes that tang is absolutely a shame. Paper glue! Soon as some humidity gets in, it'll go rotten. They changed owner; maybe you could revisit some of their models to see if the quality went to shit - like the gladius, kukris, the folding ones?

As a experienced woods man I will give you some advice on chopping trees! To easily cut through a tree is how ever thick the diameter of the tree is you have to cut that wide of a notch to cut through the tree taking out large pieces of wood every two chops one on each side! Make your cut out notch wide and it takes less chopping!

It has the new Cold Steel llogo, so very likely cina. They moved a lot of manufacture to china (except the swords I think). The things on the tang are to hold the guard in place I imagine. Although you are right the handle construction is weird, in my opinion the steel itself being D2 did pretty good - it isn't the toughest steel after all when very hard (and they say it's 59-61HRC).

Guys, that make up their minds about a knife being good or not by the level of indestuctability ..... Okay.... - not me. If you think like this - sorry than your thinking about what a knife is for and how to use it properly is fu..ed up . Joe is entertaining for sure and somehow informative . Informative in that it shows what you should not do with any knife .However, it does sometimes show quirky construction details, which is good. But what he does is not knife use, it is only destruction and has nothing to do with the knife performing in real life. There is a lot more than indestructability what makes a knife a good knife. Being over 60 and using knives my whole life , for hunting , on construction sites for work and in normal life, i can assure you, i can break almost any tool when using it the wrong way. I had and have used hundreds of knives in my life. And,again, what Joe does has nothing to do with real life knife use. Absolutely nothing. A knife should not be fragile, i agree, it should be good tempered and be well made. But for example, a well made saami puuko or any other good knife with a stick tang is still- and it was for 1000 and more years - a fine tool, with which i would feel well equipped .. and it will cut circels around any sharpened prybar. Is it a good knife?Hell, yes! Still I can break that in 2 seconds if I really want to. Would i prefer a full tang as my only tool? Yes,probably , - but that does not make a stick tang blade a bad knife as long as you are aware of what you can do with it and what not. People are so influenced by social media and so called "Knife tests" that imho have lost it. Quotes like : " But i have to baton my knife through the wildest, twisted grain, knotty hardwood with a 5 pound sledge hammer to survive" or " if i cant hammer it through a brickwall to escape from whatever" just tells me that some people have not enough brain to pee a hole into snow, yet enough to use any tool the right way , according to intended purpose and limitations. Or they they lack experience and live in the complete other world of the armchair internet survvival/tactical community ,putting knives to use in situations and for uses that will likely happen only in their fantasy . Or they duplicate stupid knife use they have seen on social media and break their knives ... There is nothing bad about a sturdy, reliable and tough knife, but stay realistic and do not do dumm sh.t with it .

Good reasonable approach! Main thing I got from this video is it still performs fairly decent, keeps an edge, and won't break unless you are being really dumb with it. Also, when are you ever going to be trying to cut a car door with a knife? Much better to use sledgehammer or a saw. With that grind and how thin it is it would perform great for normal bushcrafting as shown. Just my ¢2. Sincerely, JS
