Odd- the tip and edge seemed to last longer on AUS8 then it did on Cold Steel's 3V.
@ryanwalker1825

That's because cpm3v is a brittle very hard Steel, and Aussie 8 is a malleable hard but soft steel
@robinhardwood1593
@robinhardwood1593 Жыл бұрын
Additionally, knivesandtools states the Marauder's edge angle at 26° per side (vs 20 ° for the 3V Magnum Tanto) which is crazy high and usually cuts like shit. However, edge stability is excellent of course!

apparently heat treatment for CPM-3V is very long and complicated and most likely most manufacturers dont do that correctly. CPM-3V is considered as the toughest steel,maybe the only problem is in correct heat treatment and correct cooling after. But even with correct heat treatment maybe that steel is overrated . Also maybe Cold Steel knives made in Taiwan in Japanese AUS-8A are not the same quality as it was in Japan made by Hattori . Hattori is cult knife maker,I highly doubt that Cold steel factory in Taiwan pay attention to details, during making process like Hattori in Japan . Apparently some knives made in Taiwan for Cold steel have not equally sharpened sides .

What would make the 4 max scout even better is to round out the thumb studs in a dome shape so they can slip through wood better when battoned - I am hesitant to alter such a great knife but I suppose I could buy a new stud - after doming - a straight slit needs to be cut into one stud ( or both ) so it can be connected - it will be a great project

I love my CS Marauder! I'm glad it did better than some of these Big blade hoopla high-end steel knives, i mean the Marauder blade isn't going to snap in half doing standard tasks or in a defense situation, the more Large blades always seem to break easier than the 4 or 5" blades, you've exposed some shit for knife companies with the over charging for blades using certain steels as marketing though, and look AUS8A performs quite well and also 420HC with the Strongarm even more so. (Proof). Keep it up! How about some Sog fixed blades! Like the Sog Pillar, or Tech Bowie and or Seal Pup Elite.

Hey Joe, I told you I don't expect Marauder to survive your tests (which are pretty extreme, you.must admit 😊) If you want to test a blade that could stand a chance I guess you should try the Condor Moonshiner or Condor Atrox That 1075 steel should be able to withstand more abuse , of course, is just a guess, I cannot be sure ...

The edge seems to be a determining factor in the overall strength of any knife - once the edge fractures or chips deep ( everything will ) the over strikes on the spine enlarge the cracks and the blade fails - maybe if Joe would reverse the testing procedure by striking the spine first and edge after - it would make a difference

You do realize 90% of people do not do half of what Joe does to these knives to see how strong they are the fact that it can even take the abuse that Joe gives it and lasts longer than 5 minutes is an amazing feat in itself he breaks every knife he comes in contact with besides a couple so if you're going to determine how good your knife is by Joe beating the hell out of it which is not recommended in the manufacturers warranty then you'll never buy a knife ever again the fact that the edge held up the way it did and the tip made it through the whole car phase it's a very nice knife
