The old one was stronger. There were scandi-sharp, and now its down inside, cutting better, but less solid. The old ones, which were made before 2014 were different. Those 2 are not the same.

For the $, pretty darn good. Better than some he's tested with modern super steels and such. I know knife bros hate these vids, I find them entertaining.

To be fair, "super steels" aka powder metallurgical steels habe in almost all cases a high carbide volume. That makes them comparetively brittle (since carbides are hard but brittle particles). No amount of carefull processing will make a 10 vol% carbide steel as tough as 1055, which basicly has no carbide left after HT.

This should be a good one. I don't expect the tip to make it very far, I did some prying with mine just to see, and yup it started bending right away. This was on my hard throwing use GI that has seen years of throwing with NO issues, however if you pry with them, they will likely bend, and break, other than that, they are basically indestructible as far as things like baton splitting firewood & similar use. My heavy use ones, I remove the poly scales and cord wrap them. Good knives that never failed me for how I use them. 💯😎👍🗡

Your best cinematic production ever Joe! Thank you. 😀 My opinion: Its a pretty (ugly) effective, everyday type tool for use in woodland etc. Combined with e.g. Mora Companion HD ss and a saw. I like the simple sheath. I filed down the tip a little and top swedge to make it handier & + robust. Only cost me £20 you just cant argue with that.

@@joex The 1055 steel is the same material as in the CS machete's. Crazy ain't it . That Tanto tip is fairly wide and thick, so quite amazing it broke rather easy.

I have an older one. I've been beating it with a framing hammer for 15 years. It's been through hell. The spine is serrated now. My buddy custom stippled the handle. It just sat outside and rusted for a couple months and I'm still not worried.

I have the Cold Steel Tactical Tanto and thanks to Joe X video on it I know exactly where I can expect it to break if it ever does - right where the handle/guard meet the blade - due to what Joe X calls it's "sh_t tang" and not a real full tang like the G.I. Tanto - I really dont know why they did not give the Tactical Tanto the same type of full tang as the G.I. Tanto.. and the blade itself on the Tactical Tanto seemed to do much better than the G.I. Tanto blade.. even though both are the same 1055 Carbon Steel.. and I believe the destruction test on the Tactical Tanto was even more brutal than this test! This one was much anticipated by me. I also rewatched the first test. I was surprised to see the 1055 break on the iron rod but it seems so many blades do so when hit on their spine. Even though the thin tip breaks easily, the knife is quickly salvaged if a new tip is created with an angle grinder, and since the new tip will be of thicker stock because the blade is thicker closer to the hand, it will also be stronger. I used an angle grinder to remove the handguard on the spine side so I can bring my hand closer to the cutting edge, otherwise the riccaso makes no sense. I hated the thin tip on the first GI Tanto I bought from Amazon, so I returned it. But when I saw all the cool mods on KZbin and heard from the fans of this inexpensive blade, I bought another one. Now I have several. The Secure Ex sheath is total shit. Secure Ex dulls the blade even after I expanded the opening with a hacksaw blade. Instead I used a heat gun to fold over plastic from an old storage bin, wrapped it with a bit of duct tape and, voila, instant sheath that is lighter and more portable than the original. I stick the knife in my front pocket every night when I walk my dog. Thanks Joe for another great one! Cheers! -- Dieser wurde von mir mit großer Spannung erwartet. Ich war überrascht, als ich sah, dass die 1055 an der Eisenstange brach, aber es scheint, dass das bei so vielen Klingen der Fall ist, wenn sie auf den Rücken getroffen werden. Obwohl die dünne Spitze leicht bricht, lässt sich das Messer leicht retten, wenn mit einem Winkelschleifer eine neue Spitze hergestellt wird. Da die neue Spitze aus dickerem Material besteht, da die Klinge näher an der Hand dicker ist, ist sie auch stärker. Ich habe den Handschutz auf der Rückseite mit einem Winkelschleifer entfernt, damit ich meine Hand näher an die Schneidkante bringen kann, sonst macht das Riccaso keinen Sinn. Mir gefiel die dünne Spitze des ersten GI Tanto, den ich bei Amazon gekauft hatte, also habe ich ihn zurückgegeben. Aber als ich all die coolen Mods auf KZbin sah und von den Fans dieser preiswerten Klinge hörte, kaufte ich mir eine andere. Jetzt habe ich mehrere. Die Secure Ex-Hülle ist totaler Mist. Secure Ex lässt die Klinge stumpf werden, selbst nachdem ich die Öffnung mit einem Bügelsägeblatt erweitert habe. Stattdessen habe ich mit einer Heißluftpistole Plastik aus einem alten Vorratsbehälter umgefaltet, es mit etwas Klebeband umwickelt und, voilà, sofort eine Hülle, die leichter und tragbarer ist als das Original. Ich stecke das Messer jeden Abend in meine Vordertasche, wenn ich mit meinem Hund spazieren gehe. Danke, Joe, für einen weiteren tollen Beitrag! Prost!
