I have two old ones, with the old, more simple backlock, made in Japan with the VG 1 blade. They have to come from the end of the 1980's or early 90's. Those have been my first Cold Steel folders, they came to me around the same time as my Trail Master. One of them came with a beltsheet I never used, I preferred to carry it in the pocket. The other one had a metal clip, but I unscrewed it and carry it like the first one in the front pocket. I still edc this old Vaquero Grandes, because I love those knives. After all those years and all the hard work there is no blade wiggle at all, those knives are tough and strong and verry useful. First I was thinking "what are you going to do with a huge folder with a serrated blade?" I found out quick what the Vaquero Grandes are capable of. Those knives still are my favorite folders, followed by the Voyager XL in drop point and the 4Max. I also have a 4Max Scout, and I am absolutely happy with the more budget friendly version. Again I will share the video over Twitter. #22aday Stay safe everybody, and stay blessed. Greetings from Germany!

I bought a "Vaquero Grande" back in the day (over 15 years ago). And that version *still is my absolute favorite* take on this design. And I used it A LOT for EDC. Even without the Triad-lock (which was established later) and being peened instead of screwed, it had IMHO the perfect ratio of blade to handle while at the same time having a very carry-friendly handle. I still prefer the "Grande" over the modern versions (despite the new versions having "hooked" handles which offer more grip of course). It's astonishingly easy to carry in all the trousers I wear - slim blade and hadle. But the hadle ist still big enough to be gripped securely. AND it even does have a slightly longer blade than the modern "XL"-Version. So, if you can get a grip on an old "Vaquero Grande", I recommend to get it. (shared - but with a chosen few, only...)
@kongandbasses87322 жыл бұрын
I have two of the old models of the Vaquero Grande, one from the end if the 1980's, the other from the early 90's. No blade wiggle, the handles are still in a good shape, and the old backlock never failed on me - althought I have beaten the living shit out of them. This old folders still are in my edc rotation, one of them is with me always.

As, with Lynn forward curving blades are my favorite to carry. I have a Cold Steel Rajah II that I carry everywhere and in my shorts when I sleep. One feature about the Vaquero that stands apart from the Rajah II that I feel would be beneficial is the more distinct grip that will literally hook the fingers during slashing. Retention of one's weapons is top priority in a fight and that feature is a paramount. The thrusting point would be my next feature I like outside of the Rajah II as many people undervalue the thrusting ability of a knife. Many think reverse blade is the "assassins" way to fight and the only way to fight but a thrust gives an extension to the arm that equals distance from a threat. More importantly penetration into the threat which equals trauma and trauma....let's say "talks" the threat out of his desire to continue his attack. I use my Rajah II for survival training and when I was teaching edged weapon defense/knife fighting. I feel the Vaquero would be an even better blade for the knife fighting/defense scenario, especially with firearms training because as I have told my students "knives don't run out of ammo".
