I'm over high end knives and have now found myself leaning to my srk compact and esee 3 more than ever, dependable and they just work. Great discussion vid , thank you.

This must be a great knife. I've seen a TON of good reviews on KZbin. After searching for months for a good budget camping knife, I kept coming back to this one and decided to use my $50 Amazon giftcard I got for Christmas to buy it (SRK C). Supposed to be here tomorrow. I hope it's as great as everyone says!😀

I made a leather dangler sheath for mine and added about a 3" snakeknot lanyard so I can have something to hold on to for a two or three finger grip when chopping and added about an inch of jimping and a decent sized finger choil for better control when doing finer work. I also gave the last inch of the blade a 17° bevel for making feather sticks and shavings. Mine is in SK5 and got it for $28 about 5 years ago. The DLC is just about all worn off now as it is one of my most carried and used knives

I've wanted to edc SRK-C forever, but can't get over the lack of pummel. I believe any hard use edc should have one for non lethal and glass breaking.

It would still do it. If you want something that size bit better built for not much more look at the Demko Armiger 4

Good review. I just got this knife and a Cold Steel trail boss axe for around $65 for both from Midway. Pretty incredible deal for two good cutting tools. I agree with you that this knife feels way more solid than the Mora.
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I personally think Moras are hyped a lot but there are better blades for not much more money. That said I still think they are ok, I just hate Scandi grinds
@blackhawkbushcraft Жыл бұрын
Great video and discussion, sir. 😊👍 I love the Mora, which holds high marks among my go-to knives but I also love the SRK! For the price and quality, it is hard to beat the SRK in SK5. Great steel and great knife! I have three SRKs-two in SK5 and one in 3V. They have always worked well for me for everything I’ve needed to do. Even with the very shallow hollow grind in SK5, it’s never been a problem for me.

I love the SRK-C, just wish they came in the other steel types. As for the handles, yeah, I wish they were solid instead of rubber when it comes to the finger guard, but it is mighty comfortable; the new colors are neat.
@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors Жыл бұрын
I agree. It would be neat to see a SRK plus model that’s a true full tang with slabs and maybe even improved steels for the SRK-C. That said I have no qualms with SK5 either

I am currently considering buying an SRK to complement my Trail Master San Mai III, and I was hoping to see a review on the SRK San Mai model. [By the way, watching you trying to hack into that little sapling made me smile. With my TM that would take 4, maybe 5 strokes! ] The San Mai steel is absolutely awesome. Cold Steel have a few promo videos out, where they demonstrate the attributes of their knives doing the kind of work they were designed for (NOT tested to destruction doing stuff NO knife should be doing).The one that made me smile was cutting thick hemp rope over and over. After 1026 cuts they gave up, as they ran out of rope (and I suspect out of people to do it!) Yeah, I agree, an outstanding general camp/survival/woodsman knife. [Now, don't get me wrong I'd still take my Trail Master along. One extra pound won't kill me (I hope). However, I'd still prefer the CS Master Hunter to a Mora for fine work and feathersticking, or even the SRK-C.] As I think you se, I belong to the school of "always use the most suitable tool", rather than the school of "one knife for all jobs". I don't believe that tool exists (at least not till the Light Sabre is perfected!). ;-)

I have the SRK in SK5, VG10, and 3V. These are great knives. But I actually enjoy using the Recon Tanto more for all tasks I use the SRK for. Batoning, chopping, scraping fatwood, and striking fero rods, the Recon seems to excel at. I have the Recon in SK5 and VG10, I wish they still make it in 3V.

I kinda wished srks had a drop point instead of a clip point I believe the tip would be even more stout an you could still stab pretty good an pry if needed an have to worry as much of tip breaking, I've see sk5 srk tips breaking in some people's videos but not the sanmai or cpm3v version.

@kennywheelus6857 Жыл бұрын
@@thelasthuntsmanoutdoors,it's a good chopper,however some people love the 200 because it's faster on the recovery an is smaller to wear on your side, I don't the length of the 240,you get more chopping power of the 240 an can choke back on the handle it's great for batoning an splitting, an since I've combined the sheath as a double piggyback with my 110 pukko,it's a grest combo.

I bring $300-400 knives into the wood’s regularly but to me if they can’t take a beating they are not worth $300-400. That said I also enjoy using more budget knives too and they are good to hand off to someone new

The srk is not a full tang knife. It has a stick tang or sometimes called a hidden tang but its definitely not a full tang Edit: its still a bad ass knife and would recommend it!
@dksparticles3187 Жыл бұрын
It is a full tang, just hidden by the handle similar to fallkniven knives. Stick tang is way smaller like the ka bar fighting knife. SRK is definately full tang.
