I have a story to tell since I know people here (I hope) know how bad I am for buying these knives I am about to mention. So back in December I bought three throwing knives from a store. (75 dollars in all, it was a set) they were stainless steel but looked strong (now i know stainless steel is bad) I've been throwing them for a few months and one by one they break. I contribute this to me throwing them on hard wooden surfaces and start throwing on a foam target just to be safe. My last knife I decide to clean with oil and I get it really nice and shiney. third throw that day I hit my fence and the tip snaps off. then ext day I bought the Mini flight sport. It's supposed to be here by Friday so I am excited.

I have to say, cold steel throwing knives for the price! Of course customs are better but this comes in at a close second (also the tips on the "sport" series require a bit of work (uneven bevels) but otherwise really good) Good job cold steel! Keep it up!
@frankstarship63812 жыл бұрын
the tip of my pro flight broke after one session. Although, to be fair, I was using an old furniture door as a target. And that wood is as hard and dry as can be. In the other hand, I took a file and made a new point.

I'm wondering if throwing knives are a viable weapon to use in real combat? Or are they more realistically a flashy sport? If there are any weapons/history experts on here I would love to know. Have any past (or modern) warriors used throwing knives successfully in real time battle? Part of me thinks the coordination required would be too difficult to develop. I mean, you have pull them out before the enemy is upon you and hit a presumably moving target in an area that would cause them to halt their attack.
@smithjacusmc8 жыл бұрын
+Arkenholm the ancient military, like the modern military, would have spent hours per day, every day of the week practicing combat with every weapon they would use, in every conceivable scenario, but martial arts as with bladed weapons has fallen into the category of sport, but for one who is dedicated to true fighting arts, throwing weapons are most deadly, there is fellow on youtube here who can hit soup sized cans with those long 6" nails at 20 yards with accurate quickness.
@Gamerdude5357 жыл бұрын
I'd imagine there were warriors back then that have gotten kills with a thrown knife or dagger. You'd need a lot of practice with large heavy blades and throw them at lightly (leather) or unarmored enemy warriors. Ofc you wouldn't throw if you only got one blade left.
@DeathBlackWish10 жыл бұрын
They're hitting there target but hey sure are taking their sweet time doing it.

***** Exactly. I want to see how well they would do if they had moving targets.

***** Yeah. For just showing off what the weapon itself can do sport throwing is all that needs to be shown. But I would like to see what the people themselves can do.

***** Will do. I didn't mean to sound rude or anything. I just feel like so many people show off basic skills misleading people to think they are doing something impossible. Throwing knives seems like a super-human ability to me. How can you possibly predict the trajectory unless you've been given time to practice or choose the range beforehand? If I set up the target and the range blindly without the thrower knowing, how the fuck do they judge the throw?
@dylanherring90959 жыл бұрын
Carl Bernroth It takes a lot of time and practice to develop the skill and muscle memory required. Also, they are throwing full spin and half spin throws, witch are much more difficult, because you have to judge distance and plan knife rotation. I prefer no spin throwing, because distance is irrelevant, and it is far more practical.
@dweliq9 жыл бұрын
Carl Bernroth nobody ever threw knives throughout history as a reliable throwing weapon. its a last ditch effort when everything else fails. its too hard to judge the distance to reliably hit a moving target with the pointy end because for maximum penetrating power the point would need to be facing directly the target which is like 15 degress out of the whole 360 degrees circle. just pick a rock and hit the dude in the head, will be more effective in 90%+ cases. throwing knives is fun but it would be nearly impossible to use them reliably in an actual combat regardless of training, forget about Holywood movies.

Kill Emos They were doing spin throws, so there's a lot of variables involved to determine the distance you stand away from the target. Doing less spins means you have to stand closer to your target. Additionally, longer and heavier objects spin slower, meaning that you have to stand further away from your target. Smaller and lighter projectiles spin faster, so you have to stand closer. So, in this video, the guy was throwing with a full spin and with a longer and heavier projectile, hence why he is standing further back than the lady that is throwing a half spin throw with a smaller and lighter projectile.
