Wow that tip broke fast. Maybe the tip was pre-fractured from the car test? I still have my old SRK in AUS8 which was manufactured in Japan back in the day. Also back then it was a flat saber grind. Now the SRK comes with a hollow saber grind. Big difference! The price is still unbelievably cheap for this knife. Dont know how they keep the price so low. They must be ordering thousands of pieces of this knife at once. Great review as always!

I'm a big fan of the SRK. For $35-$45 in the US I think it's a great knife. Good balance of size and strength for general use at a price that doesn't hurt. I'd say it did okay in this test. Not mind blowing but it's not the best design for extreme load bearing, it really shines as being easy to carry, good grip, medium size and weight, easy to maintain. A good woods survival knife and weapon design. I wish they still made the 3V version which presumably would be much tougher. I have the 3V Recon Scout which is available now and I'd love to see how that holds up since it's so thick and 3V. Also the San Mai SRK would he interesting to compare. Keep up the great vids!

At just looking………1095 is great steel. But, regardless of what kind of steel you have, it’s all about the heat treat. If a steel is not heat treated properly it will fail, either it’s intended use, or completely by catastrophic failure. In knives and knife steel you get what you pay for. If you want a true bet your life on it knife, get a better makers knife. Some fairly budget friendly knives that will hold up better, look at Tops, or Essee, or some of the custom makers out there that aren’t extremely over pricey. Just remember, what he is doing is knife abuse, and he’s actually trying to get the knife to break, which is possible with any/anybody’s product out there, and any steel made.

Honestly, for the price I'd consider that a pretty good performance (especially as anything significantly better, e.g. Becket BK or Ontario RAT, seems to start at around 50% more). As for the actual outcomes, I'm not going to deny the tip broke earlier than preferred, but if I stabbed a knife dozens of times into the hood of a car I probably wouldn't be surprised if the tip gave out soon after. Also, considering that the tang seems to generally be considered the SRK's weak point (understandably so), I did find it a little ironic that the blade broke in a spot where a full tang construction wouldn't have made a difference.

It's just something to throw in the box in my trunk as part of an emergency kit, and I figured I would not want to spend $100 or more for a knife that I expect I'll forget about until I need it. Mal sehen... Grüße aus dem Schwarzwald , BFG

VERY interesting to ponder. 3V is lower carbon but still high alloy, and PM, so 3V "SHOULD" be a lot more durable than SK5, but we don't know for certain. What I can say for certain is people in the past (Fehrman Knivers) treated 3V to near INFI levels of durability. According to the test charts 3V drops durability fast at 60RC, as long as it's treated to 58RC/59RC it should be quite good, but we don't know what hardness Cold Steel is aiming for.

Yeah, they did use it. The Seals choose the knife whichever they want after becoming a Seal. One spoke to me about Mercworx being favorite in his team or the guys he knows. (and The Boondock Saints one of their favorite movies...) It's just personal I think. Like we all have preferences. Personally, I'm not a fan of the kraton onto steel tang combo. The handle often starts to twist around the tang with hard use. One Seal told me he had this issue also. This was in the old times, when you could still PM people on KZbin. Good ol times. The price of the knife is not equal to its performance. This is straight BS in my opinion. You can have a low priced knife doing all you need. The Glock for example is also low priced. Yes it doesn't have endless edge retention, but it is tough, it is an excellent stabber and it does cut. Too much emphasive on silly things from the knife snobs/community in my opinion. Mora is in use with lots of soldiers also. Mors Kochanski praised it, and he knows(knew) a thing or two, more, than most about bushraft. The knife is not what's doing the job, it is you. Huge difference. The knife only needs a good edge and tip to perform. Skills > type of knife. Even Jeff Randall talked about that. Btw, the SRK is plenty fine for combat. Didn't you see it being stabbed in the car hood? It did just fine. Don't make things overly complicated. people are getting stabbed and killed with cheapo knives all over the world. As flimsy as can be. Humans are not that tough...It's just a sack of flesh blood and bones. Which is sometimes sad enough already.

Don't ask him to do that, this little knife kicked his butt, never have I seen an idiot use a knife to stab a car hood, Of course the results ain't gonna be great, that's not what the tool is intended for, do you see fireman using a knife instead of the jaws of life when they're rescuing people from cars? this guy is an idiot!

The SRK is a Great Design , the SK-5 model is obviously their Budget version and for only around $40 it's a Great Deal , I don't care how fast the tip broke and Obviously your Trying to Break the knife to see how much Abuse it can take , but I Guarantee you couldn't break their CMP-3V Model .....

I have a $1,000.00 that says You Can Not Break a CPM-3V SRK if do the Same Stuff that you did to the SK-5 Model .... Of course you can Break Any Knife if you start Whaling on it with a Sledge Hammer , But Cold Steels 3V is Pretty Tough, they picked up and hung a VOLVO from a CMP-3V Master Tanto from a chain and then bounced it around , you can still find that video around ....👍🖖

I love these videos, but watching people using a knife as a pry tool is difficult. I would never do that unless it was absolute life and I had nothing else to hand. I can't imagine many scenarios that fit that bill, but people still love to test a blade by stabbing something and wrenching side to side. I get the appeal, but I am not gonna do it with my knives. And if that .001% chance comes around. I have a backup. having one knife is fine, but losing a blade somehow is much more plausible than breaking it because I used it as a pry bar.

After watching over 20+ videos with hollow grind fails, I wonder why its a thing. Yes, apparently it makes the knife more "slicey" and a tad lighter but the durability always suffers.
