T'was a contender for my next knife video "The 5 best EDC budget knives under $30" (working title). If the knives I get in the mail this week don't help fill up the top slots I might pull the trigger and get one... I like the finger choils on this knife...

Awesome! And the AUS 8's stainlessness along with the serrations would make this a great boating/canoeing knife! Must get!!!

I would kill for a version of this knife with the 20V steel, or even just xhp. Maybe add in G10 handle scales on that bad boy. I carry this and an ak47/mini, the tuff lite being in my watch pocket. It's a perfect blade for EDC tasks, would just love one with better steel. Aus8 does the job though. And I know I'm not alone

Nah this is perfect in the hands of a skilled eskrimador it doesnt matter how small it is the damage it can do will still be massive plus its easier to conceal u have the element of surprise and u can dual wield it one each hand and u will rip the intruder to pieces

I work at a liquor store and I want a small knife that would be perfect for opening cardboard cases, either cutting the line of tape, or breaking down coardboard. I just purchased the micro recon, but I think this tuff light might have been the right option. I think i'm going to have to try it. Another excuse to buy a CS knife haha. I have been hooked on these guys lately. Can't quite sharpen re curves too well yet so still not wanting to buy a hawkbill blade, this blade shape might be a good alternative.
@redriver65412 жыл бұрын
I've got three of these.... One I EDC and two others I keep in emergency kits. Love them. I wish they'd put one out with S35 or 20CV.... I'd pay the extra for it.

@BrianMiller19739 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the response. That mini tuff is so compact, I could probably just stick it in my pocket and forget the clip. Perhaps a future version will incorporate the left hand side clip.

My only wish... stop with the hollow grinds. They suck. They're seriously next to useless because they're good at some stuff but there is literally always a grind style that is better suited for a task. Also.. maybe show this thing doing some utility tasks... instead of attacking cardboard shooting targets? This is in no way a fighting knife. The meat tests are cool because you can see what it is capable of, if need be.. but the cardboard targets?? As if the intent here is a combat knife. This to me, is a carving utility blade

steelNipple Agreed! They should definitely have a US line. Even if it was just a few of their more popular knives. I'd gladly pay double for a Recon 1 that was made in the US.

The "edge and point removed for user safety" voids the whole thing. I'm not gonna have time to remove those if I'm in an emergency situation.
@bonesjones16588 жыл бұрын
+LFPS0311 That's like saying my 350lb squat doesn't count, because I used safety bars in case I couldn't make the lift. They are there in case I fail, but if I make it, I make it. It counts. If this thing holds up to abuse and the lock can hold 180lb, then that's what it can do. The tip removed to be on the safe side has nothing to do with it's capabilities.
@LFPS03118 жыл бұрын
If you ever have to squat a 350lb piece of a building structure to save your life, you're not gonna have safety bars. It counts, of course it does, but it's not an accurate representation of what would happen in real life.
@stalememe64078 жыл бұрын
its a test not real life if the knife DID fail someone could have died but because the tip and edge is remove there is less chances of that happening

Do you also expect car companies to crash test their cars with live people in them???
@LFPS03118 жыл бұрын
No, but I do expect them to really fuck them up to see if the dumy can really "live" afterwards. There are ways to prevent anything serious, It's not like these idiots are gonna die from a tiny shard of steel.

@jan_bsk30878 жыл бұрын
+csknives thanks for your quick reply, is there a more sturdy version with steel liners planned? A non-lite version for example? Or with g10 handles?
@bonesjones16588 жыл бұрын
+Mr.Salpling You lose credibility by calling Aus-8 shitty... to steel snobs yes, to those who are informed, no. It's a great steal. No it's edge holding isnt incredible (although a good heat treat goes far) but it scores high in terms of toughness. So technically Aus-8 would hold up to prying better and be less likely to have the tip break than something like S30v. My only issue is the silly hollow grind which "slices better" but that is negated by the flat section by the spine and the secondary bevel, or edge. It actually slices the same or more poorly than a full flat, and does wood work worse than a steeper partial flat/saber. Think of a chisel or scandi grind and how they push the wood out.
@jan_bsk30878 жыл бұрын
I dont pry with a fucking folder so yes, its shitty. Maybe proper Heat treatment makes it good, probaply its the 1095 of stainless steels.
@bonesjones16588 жыл бұрын
+Mr.Salpling You were the one asking if the tip broke off. I'm only saying that Aus-8 is actually pretty tough, so in terms of THAT it's not shitty at all. Steel isnt just about how long it can stay sharp after all. If thats all you care for, go get a ceramic knife. The whole "dont use a folder as a pry-bar" is very obvious, and really dont use a knife as a pry bar in general - however it is important to note some steals have higher toughness and will hold up to lateral forces better. This helps with knives where. you might not be trying to pry, but you might use the tip for detailed carving. A sharp tip and thin grind that would work well for most tasks, when made out of zdp-189, will give you issues if you try any tip work of any sort. Another example is when cutting very abrasive material, the aus-8 will hold up better than s30v actually. And yes, it is similar to a stainless version of 1095... aka it's not "shitty" at all ...bitch :)
