Very cool that he does the double take for our convenience.

I really appreciate your experience and honest feedback. Can you make a recommendation for the individual that only has $300-$400 to spend on one sword? Asking for myself.

I have one but mine must be a MUCH older model. I bought it about 20ish years ago and the tsuba has a dragon while the fuchi and kashira have a wave pattern. It has a copper or brass dragon menuki and black cotton ito. It was the first non-stainless sword that I bought. I also bought the shorter chisa katana which has the same fittings but the addition of one on the end of the saya. Interestingly, both of those swords have the same weight, in spite of the chisa being several inches shorter.

you're great, I saw the long version first and said dang too long for me, wish he made a short version, then boom! this pops up.

I really like the arrowhead fittings. Especially the menuki. I haven't seen menuki that long. And damn you talk FAST! lol. A direct and to the point review.

Heh, good video, striking this Cold Steel unit off my list now. What would you recommend for the best 300 to 500$ USD sword for a beginner-ish backyard "hiyaaah!" bottle/mat cutter? SO many people are telling me that Ronin Katana's mid range $300 ish swords are the best bang/buck, but I don't mind spending another few hundred $ on a "first timer" when it comes to a cutter (I have other swords I collect, but I've never gotten into swinging them into shit, at least until now). Thanks Matt, great channel. Hi yah!!!!

I think the dojo pro from Ronin are very durable pieces. If the goal is to use a sword and smack stuff with it, then the dojo pro stuff seems pretty good. The hanwei raptors are good. JKOO is a good option for cost effective custom options.. I would advise you to spend as much as you are OK loosing. Does not matter how nice the sword is or how much it cost, hit a target the wrong way and it will be damaged. Don't spend a bunch of money to do dumb stuff... spend a little, get it out of the way, learn what you like, then buy something nice.

I second JKoo. I wish I didn't sell mine. I also hear people say that Munetoshi is a good bang for the buck.

@@Matthew_Jensen Awesome, thanks Matt.

@@ambulocetusnatans The Munetoshi Kouken ( Guardian ) Shobu Zukuri has a BEEFY blade that definitely is a worthy addition to the category of backyard cutter / heavy cutter. Recently I got one. Some of the fittings arrived a little lose ... but overall it was a nice weighty katana that would definitely aid as a training tool. Cost ... 'bout the same as the others in this category.

How did you learn to sharpen your katana and is it something you would be willing to make a video about ?

Hey Matthew ... thank you for the shout outs!! Yes ... this sword was a conundrum for me too. Really looking forward to the conversation piece for this sword. As always, a thorough look at this model. I enjoyed the fact that between us we put this single example through various tests. Cold Steel's Warrior katana ... love'm or hate'm ... the thing doesn't seen to be going away any time soon AND it seems that there are those of you out there that actually love this thing. When ya talk about Chinese made Japanese style katanas ... eventually this thing WILL enter into the convo. I know its more time and effort ... but I like the fact that you did a short video AND a long video on this model. It is SUCH a popular model ... for good or bad ... fact of the matter is that A LOT of people have given their two cents on this model ... or in your and my case ... $1.50 ... HAHA!! Looking forward to our chat.

Did you use gloves to cut with this one?
@mr.excalibur14554 жыл бұрын
@@Matthew_Jensen Actually no! I found the grip to be comfortable enough to use without gloves. I'm starting to get away from using gloves ... especially with the katanas ... although depending on the model I still do. Perhaps if I had used gloves this particular time my cuts may have been better. Who knows.

I think Cold Steel should have stuck with their popular and well made Tanto series and stayed OUT of the Katana market. Pretty obvious they were attempting to cash in on the Katana market and failed to bring their production standards to that particular product. I would have gladly paid twice the price if they had gone the extra mile on quality.
