Tag along with the Taiga performance testing team to glimpse into the world of freezing cold weather operation for the electric snowmobile platform.
It’s no surprise that snowmobiles and cold weather performance go together. Taiga battery packs, along with the whole powertrain, were designed to be active through freezing temperatures.
At the core, our mission is to unlock sustainable access to the great outdoors by developing the technology needed to electrify powersports for a no-compromise experience.

In the 1960's and '70's Dad was an Alouette dealer in Duluth Minnesota so I grew up on fast cars, motorcycles and snowmobiles and racing all of them. The Taiga is the snowmobile that I've always wanted. I'm 71 now and I still like blasting around but more often just find myself cruising and watching the scenery and to do that without all the noise would be wonderful.

Very cool. Ignore the haters.

I’m not hating on it or anything but it’s just the range is what concerns me. They should have like a battery that you can swap for a spare battery. Otherwise, I would think these sleds would be the future!

I think they suck so we need a battery for a battery to keep the battery warm ? Skidoos are made for extreme cold and reliable remote long distance trips , those are nice urban sleds though

@Kingfisher276 I love the idea of electric.. Where I'd really like it is in my jet ski...my 2020 GTI 170 is pretty loud making it difficult to talk with a passenger and also vibrates quite a bit. I'd love the peace and quiet on the lake. It will be a long time IMO until electric is adopted on snow, due to the cold mostly. It will happen eventually I think. I'm content with my gas powered sleds for now though.

Not a word about how this works. I imagine you could keep the battery warm overnight if you kept it plugged in and it was equipped with a heater. With proper insulation this wouldn't take much energy at all- so little (compared with the energy required to move a 700 pound sled) you could probably just use the battery itself to keep it warm. I wonder what their solution is? What percentage of the battery capacity warm on a cold night? 5%? 10%

We still wonder, how we can charge these up on the mountain. Can we change batteries? Today we usually bring extra fuel so that we can ride all day(s) and still have fuel to ride home safely. How does energy consumption change in different temperatures? Would be a nightmare if the temperature dropped and all of a sudden you didn’t have enough juice to get home from the mountain.

In an electric vehicle you normally recharge going downhill, which you can't do with gas. If taiga has implemented regenerative braking - which I believe I read they have, then whenever you go down hill again you will recover a good percentage of what it took to go up it.

Looks a nice sled design. we tend to get -50 farenheit throughout the winter. How would this handle being parked outside in extreme cold?
