For Cold War, the characters we play as could’ve just been 4 canon characters(characters that talk and interact with the map and other characters) that can then have different outfits that could be bought. This is sort of similar to how in BO4 there was the paint that could be put on the character’s faces. Also I mainly got Samantha because she’s the closest of all the operators to being a main character

The issue is activision doesnt want playable characters in zombies anymore because itll either be a random slot like bo3 or youll get a game of all the same character both limit the earning potential and operators could have worked if they never showed up in cutscenes because you get weird shit where Samantha is talking to Samantha or Ravenov is asking where she is but youre right in front of him playing as her.

I've deleted, rewrote and edited this comment multiple times. I personally really enjoyed playing BOCW zombies with my friends, and there were a few thoughts and things I really wanted to share but just couldn't think of the best way to express them. So here are some bullet points: - I feel it cannot be understated how important the change in DLC format is. This is the first ever Black Ops game which has free DLC maps, cross platform and cross generation multiplayer, and cross mode synced progression. Just speaking from personal experience, one of my friends played BOCW on a PS4 and another played on an old Xbox One, while I played on PC. The fact that we were all able to play zombies together without worrying about who owned which map was amazing, and I hope this becomes the standard going forward. - Exfil I feel is another very welcome addition. Let's be real, zombies games can take a very long time. For people who don't have the time, skill or desire to push for high rounds or complete the easter egg, now they have a way to end a game on their own terms while keeping all the exp they've earned. I hope Treyarch includes this feature back in future titles for those players who want it. - Around season 3 I think, Treyarch gave us the option to unlock weapons by completing challenges in zombies instead of in multiplayer/Warzone. Which personally, was a *godsend*. I know people who literally only play COD for the zombies mode and hardly ever touch multiplayer. - As you mentioned, Treyarch eventually gave us the ability to save custom blueprints and apply them to any guns we find in-game. Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about this. On one hand it's a huge quality of life improvement, but on the other hand I feel that this completely cannibalizes one of this game's big new features. In BOCW zombies, all guns in the game spawn with a few random attachments, and if you don't like the ones you got you can spend some salvage to reroll them. With this system though, you are handicapping yourself and playing suboptimally if you don't have a blueprint saved for each weapon in the game with the exact attachments you want and you waste salvage rerolling them. It feel like a bandaid solution to a problem which itself might not have an answer. - One thing I noticed a lot with anyone who reviews BOCW, whether it's you, Rizzo, etc. is that you review Outbreak as a finished product without paying much attention to how the mode changed and grew. I personally feel that this is a big part of it's identity. Like a map is sort of a one and done thing, whereas Outbreak was something that was continuously added to over BOCW's lifespan. I think that's part of the reason why the mode was so divisive, because Outbreak launched back in season 2 in a pretty rushed state. Compared to the 7 maps and 2 quests we had by the end of season 6, Outbreak at launch had only 3 maps and had no main quest whatsoever. The awe and wonder of Outbreak quickly faded once you realized that by the 3rd warp, you'd pretty much seen all that Outbreak had to offer already. There was no big quest to work through and nothing to really do besides trying to see how long you could survive, which quickly became a rather boring and repetitive affair. It felt like we were just playing an early access version of this mode at launch, and it wouldn't be until months later that we'd get more maps, easter eggs, and a main quest. It was like the criticism that Der Anfang in Vanguard received at launch, but the saving grace being that Outbreak's launch wasn't nearly as bad and there was still Die Maschine, Firebase Z and Onslaught available to play. But as they say you only get one chance at a first impression, and I think that many players took one look at the unfinished and rushed state that Outbreak launched in and never touched it again. - I really like the dynamic between the two main play areas in Firebase Z. The firebase itself is a fairly wide open and varied space. There's lots of room to move around and to train zombies if that's your thing. The village though is extremely claustrophobic, with lots of tight choke points, dead ends, and with the only semi-open area being the road and the courtyard. I think it's no coincidence that the Pack a Punch and Wunderfizz machines are located in some of the worst possible spots in the map where you can get surrounded in an instant, so you only have a split second to get in, grab your stuff, and get out. But there's nothing stopping you from trying to survive in the village if you want, in fact you can spend the whole game besides the assault rounds there. Actually, with the map's various choke points and camping spots, it feels like it was custom made for players to experiment with the toxic growth field order that was added around the time the map released. - The loot crates in Outbreak play a modified version of the Coalescence Corporation jingle from BO3 when you get close to them. That's just a nice touch :) - Can we just mention how Weaver and Kravchenko look and sound nothing like they did in the original Black Ops? Weaver lost his Russian accent and Kravchenko somehow looks 20 years younger than before.

I’m very mixed on Exfil. I’m not sure if it’s nostalgia, but I loved the vibe of BO1/2 where you know you’re gonna die no matter what you do. It added to the mystique of zombies, the mythical nature of high rounds, the feeling of no escape. Atmospherically it added so much for me. In Cold War, it feels like I’m just thinking, “if I decided to call a helicopter and spend 30 seconds shooting zombies, I can escape any time I want. This isn’t even life-or-death.” But again, it could’ve also just been the mystique of zombies when I was young. It’s hard to separate nostalgia from reality. But on the other hand, Exfil does seem to be a good addition. It works well with Cold War because it allows you to get more upgrade materials and stuff. It’s good for people who want to end the game early and still feel accomplished. And anyways, zombies hasn’t been a purely survival game since like BO2. In BO3 most Easter Eggs end the game, giving you a way to beat the game. In BO4 same thing. So there was always technically a way to “beat zombies” in those games (not that I really loved Easter Eggs in those games either). Zombies hasn’t been that mystical “you will die” since BO2. Overall, I’m completely split on Exfil. I can make arguments for it being good and bad. I will say though, it’s way too easy to do. I wish it was more difficult than just buying a chopper gunner or Death Machine and demolishing everything.
@LuvzToLol212 жыл бұрын
@@SJ-di5zu I tend to think of exfil as more of a quality of life sort of feature. It's there as an option, if you want to just survive as long as possible you can just do that. But I'm sure we all don't have as much free time now as adults than we did when we were kids back when Black Ops released. If you're getting tired or you have things to do or whatever, every 5 rounds you have another way to end the game besides all the other ways. I can kind of agree when people say that exfil should be more challenging. But on the other hand, doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

Personally I'd like to see one that follows the system Borderlands has. Where there's these windows for characters to give their opinions, react to events and respond to Weaver and company. I mean, we know that Naga is not only used to absolute brutality, but we also know he is prone to violence, rage and even "Hear voices" according to the Halloween Event. So, having him mention how seeing those corpses in Die Maschine isn't shocking to him. he's essentially our very own (not as over the top) Ultimis richtofen. Having lines like "Better than sex" and finding the monkey bomb to be amusing. Or for instance, we know Antonov was forced to join the army so he wouldn't go to jail for being part of the Russian Mafia. therefore having to follow orders and even be in this situation is frustrating to him, he feels locked. Wasted opportunity, honestly. It'd let Treyarch develop these operators that only have their bio as character development.

the change from epic as the highest and legendary to the second highest to the other way around is for a pretty simple reason. In most games, epic is the second highest, with legendary being the highest (or third and second highest, plus whatever bonus rarities they decide to throw in afterwards.) the prevailing popularity of rarities in gaming these days made this kind of necessary to avoid confusion. Pink/purple is also usually the colour for epic rarity, with orange being legendary, and gold for the one above (which doesnt have a commonly agreed upon name, but usually is something like Exotic, Mythic, or Unique, but it would probably mean Wonderweapon, or simply Wonderful here.)

Cold War is my favorite Zombies game hands down, unless we include customs for BO3 which in that case BO3 takes it, but for me its just down to the gameplay being so good, but the problems hold it back and its why I am so excited for BO6, particularly my big 2 issues are no cannon crew and the maps being at best good but none being S tier, its funny to me that if I were doing a tier list of all Zombies games, Cold War would be in S, but if it was of all maps, not a single Cold War map goes in S, it really just showcases how good Cold Wars base gameplay is, I've been praying that one day someone makes a mod for BO3 that adds in all of Cold Wars additions, someone made a BO2 mod that is very polished for how basic BO2s mod tools are that adds in a lot of Cold Wars features and it is probably the most fun I have ever had in Zombies, it really made it painfully obvious how much Cold War could have been even better if we had maps on the level of Mob or Origins heres to hoping BO6 can bring Cold Wars to the level it would have been if Activision didn't screw Treyarch over with that time crunch

Those Aether Jellyfish really deserved a spot as an enemy. I will say Vanguard makes this game look like Mona Lisa in comparison.
@SJ-di5zu2 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. Cold War feels like an arcade style of zombies. You have to have a different mindset while playing it than BO1-4. It’s extremely easy; so dying really isn’t an issue you have to worry about for most of the game. You’re not focused on survival anymore, but more just becoming as overpowered as physically possible. It’s more casual, brainless fun than the other games, except BO3 at times which can get extremely easy too. I have a ton of criticisms for Cold War. The map designs just aren’t as creative or involved as BO1-4 or even WaW. The military feel only made this problem more pronounced, as zombies felt more like an extension of multiplayer than its own universe. While the weapon rarity is interesting and added a bit to the mystery box and gunplay, I despise what it did to the game. You’re heavily incentivized to use the same weapon the whole game, as you spawn in with a pretty good weapon, upgrade its tiers, and then you don’t want to let go of it because it would take forever to level up a new weapon. In the older games, I’d switch out weapons constantly just for fun. The out of game upgrade system definitely incentivized you to play more, which was good. But it also made your character incredibly overpowered. Having 10 perks that are all broken beyond belief is the most overpowered thing possible. But Cold War is good for certain things. For one, having a ton of different abilities really lets you switch up how you want to kill zombies. You have so many weapons in your arsenal that when you’re new to the game, you might even forget about some of them. The gunplay is better than BO3 and 4, just based on how the weapons feel. The wonder weapons are mostly fun and not too overpowered. And Outbreak can be a fun changeup, although I don’t think it has much replay value due to the limited amount of objectives and maps. Overall, Cold War is something I need to be in a specific mood to play. It can be a ton of fun, but I’d still put it below each of the 4 Black Ops games. The game being devoid of any challenge just isn’t ideal for replayability, and makes it only worth playing when I want to shut my brain off. At least in BO3, the maps were big and creative, giving me something to explore and distracting me from the lack of difficulty. And in BO4, you can scale the difficulty to your liking. In Cold War that’s not the case. It’s not a bad game mode; but I find I’d rather play any of the first 4 BO games over it, and maybe even WaW.

My biggest issue, one that JrRizzo666_yt shares, is how Maxis was shoved to the side. while it's realistic she'd instantly be undertaken, I created this little headcanon: Curious as to how the Dark Aether affected her, specially after Firebase Z's transmissions, the director decides to let her lead the team, motivated by her ardent desire to fight back. but, seeing her performance and noticing some strange things, he eventually orders her to be locked up. This allows for a (fairly small, but still) little window of time where it makes sense for her to be an operator, and gives her the opportunity to have a bit more weight. Now, the reason she's upset about not being in the field, isn't just because she wants to, but because this was taken from her. Maybe let it be canon that the reason why she can still, somehow, communicate with Ravenov was some device he gave her. (which is eventually taken away) Maybe have some Intel explaining that she already suspects something is wrong, due to her traumatizing, PTSD inducing time in the Dark Aether, and in her journeys through the outbreak zone, she eventually found something that led her to find out about the Inversion Warheads, but hid it from the rest of the team due to her paranoia. I think this even helps add some more tragedy to her arc. Ravenov promised her she could be fixed, things could go back to normal, and so, one would expect the script to follow that path. Having it seemingly do so, but suddenly take this turn would feel... like it's insult to injury for her, instead of feeling like just a throwaway line. Quick correction! It's not that the crossbow or ballistic knife don't scale properly. It's that they used to be EXTREMELY OP against Orda, so Treyarch nerfed them into being actually useless cus no fun allowed. Also, Klaus's mustache is explained through Intel. One of the agents of that CIA hideout was making fun of Klaus and drew that, and then one day, Klaus simply choked him to death for it. also, bit of a shame you didn't bring up Mauer's exfil event! it's actually really unique!

As I said I’m biased towards Cold War. I can see your ratings but I differ on where I rate mine. Outbreak is where 50% of my time is maybe more. Then it’s mauer, die Maschine, forsaken, onslaught, then Firebase z. I can see the reason for the mangler but him being in every map from Firebase z on is tiresome at times. I struggle to play mauer sometimes because of this. And the same goes for every other enemy type that shows up in a different map aside from the needed zombies haha. I wish special zombies were specific to one map and had 2 max and spawned every 4-5 rounds to make it feel like I’m facing zombies and not an army. The armor stand, workbench, and pap additions seemed like a chore in the beginning but if you don’t do an item it feels like your lacking, and I like it. I can see the map complaints not being out there or needing personality and seeming lackluster at times, and that’s why a set crew was needed more than ever. The reward is by far my favorite item that I’ve received and doesn’t make it too op when the game starts. I just wish people would stop calling IW zombies as the ultimate ee reward as your given it for playing such a shit game and quest, and comparing it to Cold War as it’s not good enough or should’ve been like IW’s. I understand that’s makes me a shill for treyarch, but at least they didn’t deliver shit for me to play. All in all Cold War is by far my fav zombies as it’s “handing me a crutch” so to speak and I’m not stupid op like bo3.
@TheMysticalTank2 жыл бұрын
Cold War’s first two maps were fantastic! The atmosphere was great and the bosses weren’t overpowered. The core of Cold War was fun with friends but boring on its own. Perks being unlimited was fantastic. The bad was the loss of “upgraded” weapons. Some weapons in pervious games had a unique identity to them when packed, ie, Mustang and Sally, the penetrator, the monkey crossbow, and ballistic knives. The point system is something I didn’t like but I understand the reason behind it. Outbreak was great the first few times but it so boring even with the EE. The In-between: The story wasn’t bad but the lack of 4 core characters limited the dialogue and player interactions.

I preferred to use healing aura and frenzied guard. And maybe sometimes aether shroud, especially after I got the ability to launch myself a certain distance. I also loved some of the lines the operators said while fighting the undead. My favorite operator was probably Naga. He had some really funny/sus lines that always made me crack up. Mason was up there too, the dialogue was just always funny for all the characters, or cool.

I feel like Die Machine and Der Toten were the strongest of the maps in Cold War. It would have been so cool if a Dark Aether map copy of each map was available after completing the Easter eggs, kinda like a alternative play style as well. But, a crew is deeply needed.
@MazeMaker4Life2 жыл бұрын
Personally firebase z is my go to map to play for grinding etc. It feels balanced imo. Only 2 special zombies compared to the spam in der toten and forsaken, and the megaton is just meh with 3 health bars. EDIT: I agree with needing a crew. Operators are boring AF, and ruined what made original zombies unique. They need to f off and stop trying to monetize zombies.
@GreySoul9352 жыл бұрын
@@MazeMaker4Life I think it's well balanced as well, tho I struggle with orda not really because of his health but I tend to run low on ammo when killing it. But, I like to train in the helipad area since it's nice and open. I just feel it's slightly not as unique to zombies as Die Machine and Maur is, especially since Forsaken is ALMOST, a reskin. But Fire base Z is just pure fun with little challenge every few rounds

While I do agree the operators are mostly generic, I'd argue that Maxis has a lot more personality compared to the other operators. I think a big fix for the issue isn't so much a canon team as it is Strike Team having no personality. If say, Primis was unlockable as operators, I feel like it would negate a lot of the issues so long as they actually implemented new or reused lines. Be honest Richtofen is gonna have a lot more personality than Vargas

I recently got Cold War on sale and have been playing the fuck out of it. I've only played Die Machine and Outbreak so far, but it has got me hooked. It feels like there's always something to do. Maybe my opinion will change one I unlock everything, but so far I think I'm enjoying Cold War more than I enjoyed BO3 during it's life cycle. There's no pesky in your face micro transactions that alter gameplay, every map is free, and there's just so much to do and unlock, I just can't put the game down and I haven't even moved onto the other maps yet and I've been playing this game for over a week. It's been a very enjoyable experience and the most fun I've had with Zombies since Bo2. Yeah, the atmosphere and map design isn't the best, but that comes 2nd to gameplay for me and the gameplay is phenomenal, so I can easily look past the lack of character
@britishpie76652 жыл бұрын
One thing I do wanna mention about the characterisations about requiem when discussing your ideal crew, it wouldn't be likely for Carver to be suspicious of Weaver since he was born in the US and he must've known about his role during the events of bo1 (also his "relationship with Kravchenko lol) and for Strauss...? Can't say I'm properly educated about how he feels about him but I'm pretty sure they just genuinely find each other annoying because they're on complete opposites of how they work, but I might be wrong (plus can make some good cocky back and forths lol) However your ideal way of him thinking isn't wrong. Cause he IS constantly suspicious of the director. He goes on about how he knows nothing about him, except from stuff like how he overheard him speak Russian. And given how Weaver constantly talks about orders from the director, Carver would definitely up most question about them. Also quests like Firebase Z with Ravenov would've been really fitting too.
@Stanley5572 жыл бұрын
That's a good point, my point of view was Carver is a born and raised in America and Weaver, despite having former missions where he aided the US, was born in Russian, during the Cold War even the most trusted Russians were to be monitored, granted it just my own little silly theory crafting hope you enjoyed the video!

I played a shitload of that first Cold War map when it came out, I loved the big gameplay changes. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the way it went post-shangri la (those maps are cool I just suck at them).
