Inspired by the 1988 classic “Red Storm Rising”, command a nuclear submarine in a desperate attempt to prevent “mutually assured destruction” when the Cold War gets hot and WWIII begins.
You will be tasked with intercepting convoys, amphibious landings, insertion missions and battling it out with enemy warships, submarines and aircraft. Thankfully, an arsenal of wire-guided torpedoes, anti-ship and cruise missiles and the occasional SEAL team are on board to keep the Iron Curtain at bay.

That Song captain has got to be the smartest guy in the PLAN. Just chillin, replenishin', life is good. Then all hell breaks loose as four torpedoes streak in from different directions. The surface ships are panicking trying to protect the tender, the other Song has panic fired without even being sure they're shooting in the right direction. Bro realizes hes either fighting one really good US captain, or hes fighting multiple subs who have ambushed them. Decides to just rig for ultra quiet and leave like a chad.

You should have seen the U-Boat series when he surfaces the boat and quick fires 4 fish barely aimed at the escort carrier in the asw hunter killer group. All 4 detonate right at the keel and that carrier went down about as fast as a flushed turd no kidding. Incredible. Next to impossible with the capabilities and danger of the rest of the escorts. Surprised that he escaped but asw was getting better at that point in the game and the end was near.

@@anzaca1 It should actually be of mixed construction. The bow and stern are double-hulled to improve dive performance and maybe increase strength, and the rest is single hulled for maximum amounts of machinery space, less flood ports and minimum displacement, which is important for overall performance. That is why western submarines can be smaller and much quieter than soviet designs

One tactic that I like to use is to close an encounter at a speed of 1 kn. This will then be the speed I will be travelling at on the next encounter and will result in maximum sensitivity of my sonar and thus detection of enemy ships at the greatest range. On a sub with good passive sonar this means that you can often detect the enemy at ranges great enough so that you can end the encounter if you wish and not have to fight it out or run away.

@@dammitdan1662 No, it doesn't affect your transit speed between encounters, only the speed you're at when the encounter begins. It works very well when you're trapped by a bunch of enemy ships that are piling up on you and all you want to do is break contact and move on to the next mission.

How can you do that? The speed at wich you enter the encounter is preset by the speed in the campaign map... If you are not moving in the campaign then you will entre at 5kt and if you are right clicking at 10kt and left clicking at 20kt.

I actually got into Naval history and the Naval games due to the movie Das Boot. I found your videos on u-boat and destroyer u-boat Hunter and they helped me learn how to play it even better. I never manually did the torpedo solutions but after seeing you do it and watching some videos on how to do it I use it as practice to help me train for Wolfpack, I usually play that with my friends and before I knew how to fire torpedoes I was always on the ballast. After that I started playing the silent Hunter games, I especially love the fourth one. As much as I love u-boat for being my first submarine game the dark gray of the type VII gets a bit old and I think I like the old feeling of the s18 and Sargo classes. I also like the fact that you can work your way up to a Gato or Balao as the campaign goes on. Probably the game with the most replayability is war on the sea, I actually got to visit the Idaho military Museum and I got to see the bell of the USS Boise so you know for certain I always have a Brooklyn class cruiser in my formation. 😂

More, different weapons means less ammo for each. A couple of multipurpose weapons is more practical. Like how the USN has the Standard, a combined SAM/Anti-ship missile.

For a slight spoiler, if you really need that R and R order you should fire off more ordinance so that you have no torpedoes or not enough weapons to put in all torpedo tubes. But then that means longer wait in home port while the next mission is ticking down. So its not perfect solution.

The Y-8X Maritime Patrol Aircraft is still a formidable anti-submarine aircraft.. The aircraft is fitted with infrared anti-submarine detection equipment including sonobuoys and a sonar receiver. There are low-altitude and medium to high-altitude optical cameras, and an infrared camera installed for aerial imagery. Great tactics yet again. You nailed the whole convoy with precision.... Then decimated the second group! 👏🇺🇲👏

Its crazy how close you were in most engagements, yet managed to successfully fire torpedoes with no counter launches. It almost reminds me of a mod containing a sub that I forgot the name of, but it would essentially just turn the torpedoes propellers on in the tubes, rather than pushing them out with pressurized air first and it basically makes launching quieter.

Man, imagine if torpedoes could have throttle adjustments while controlled by the wire. If wire breaks, they go max speed and act like they should, but if wire stays connected the torpedo could throttle down for even tighter turns. Those would be great to use, and hell to avoid.

These are cold war era versions of these torps. The US has modified these torpedos multiple times since, and most of the notes on the updates involve propulsion and guidance. The CBASS can probably even interface with Link 16 if it's on the surface.

I'm sure you know this but you can target Chinese flagged merchants and they count towards your overall tonnage, unless your goal is to only engage military vessels which is respectable.

I still find it weird that US subs are detectable with magnetic anomaly detection. Modern German subs for instance use degaussed steel that makes them almost invisible to magnetic anomaly detection, and this method has been known since WW2. Then again, idk if the fact the US mostly builds nuclear submarines makes a significant difference here.

Random thought: When facing surface ships could you run torpedos under a layer to get them closer before they are detected then pop them up? Does the game simulation go that far? And would firing from under a layer mean you could fire from closer without being heard?
